snowblower

looking to buy a snowblower for my dexta. The one I am interested in (Westbjörns snöfräsar) can be driven by the PTO (K-axel) or by a 'hydraulmotor'. The hydraulic motor needs 40L/min and 'double working outlets.' I only see one outlet under my seat by the left side, pointing to the back. Why would ...

whats this hole for?

Its on the left side, near left knee, when sitting. Oil leaks out sometimes, but only when she is working.

Let me rephrase my question. Does the engine section of the cooling system warm up first, then the thermostat opens and allows the excess hot water to cool via the radiator? In my case I cant see how some sections of the cooling system (ie the housing where the temperature sensor is) can be hot afte...

radiator question

I just noticed that when I run my dexta, the lower hose coming from the base of the radiator (L side) is quite cool, despite the upper hoses and engine block warm after 5' or so of running. Does not seem that any heat is transferred to the radiator (and then returning via this bottom hose). That nor...

Well I did it. Tractor is negative ground. Not much of a spark though. Tractor started fine. About +13 V between the battery terminals when running at 1000 rpm. A bit higher than when I tested it just before the changeover. Warning light turned off at 600 rpm, as usual. So, just to be sure, what tes...

Its a diesel. So I don't need to do anything to it when converting from positive ground to negative ground?

Does the ignition system of a dexta have a 'coil'? If so, does that not need to be reversed, when converting from positive ground to negative?

I can answer that. Look at your battery and see what pole, +or - is grounded to the frame. As far as what is better, if your a purest, keep it + ground for the dexta's sake. If you want to put in some new meters (water oil temp) or most other electrical equipment (new alternator), then negative grou...

thanks for the advice. One more point. What is the best test to do just afterwards? I have read about linking D and T on the generator to a lightbulb, but not sure how that actually works out. I have a multimeter, which can be put to work.

positive to negative ground

I have read up on that and most posts say, in the case of the generator, you disconnect the leads D and F and flash the F for a second (or 10s) from the newly reversed battery (flash with +, negative now ground). But some threads talk about 'rewiring' and issues with the regulator. As far as I can s...

Here is the motorwarmerer that replaced the (broken) temperature gauge. http://photos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs432.ash1/23872_104529866241585_100000537152548_119139_6796742_s.jpg Its 500w and warms her up for an instant start after about 2 hours (one hour would probably do with modest cranki...

Thanks for all of your inputs. Interesting stuff. How about an oil temperature gauge, instead of a water temp gauge? Also, any benefit from adding an oil pressure gauge, aside from the 'red light' sensor the dexta has? In cars, at least, I was told the red warning lights usually mean the damage is a...

Not sure I want to drill. Anyone used a pyrometer on a dexta? The beauty of using one is the ease in which one can set it up. Simply stick the cable probe in the exhaust manifold.

Alternative to original temperature sensor?

Just now I have my motorwarmerer intake hose hooked up to where my temperature sensor used to be. Perfect spot actually. The sensor was broken long ago, so no tears were shed removing it. However, I do want to monitor the engine temp still, but using an alternative method. I found a exhaust temperat...

Could the problem (weak when reverse plowing, left wheel spins while the right stops) have to do with the 'differential lock operation'? That peddle under the quad to the back right. Section 7 of the manual says it might help. I have never used it. Anyone use this? I can depress it (with the tractor...

The tires are worn, but worn tires would slip, not stop. Plus I have chains on them for the snowplowing. What happens is the right wheel will just stop, while the left wheel will spin, when I back up slowly (at high rev) into a modest pile of snow.

Second list of questions about the dexta and tractoring

Thanks for the responses. Some may seem a bit silly, but I cant count the number of times someone has given advice after the fact. 'What, you did not _____before you ____?!' So I take no chances now! 1. Can you work a tractor (eg plow snow) in H gear? While I can go slowly in L at gear 2, It actuall...

When I reverse with the plow up (just driving) it does not veer off to one side, which might suggest a stuck break. Backs up fine when not under strain of work.

List of questions about my dexta

Here is a list of some questions I have about tractoring and the dexta in particular. I am new to all this, but willing to learn. I have been through a hundred or so old posts, which answered some of my questions, but not all. Here are some in no special order. 1. When working the tractor (plowing s...

Still confused about lack of power when reversing. Again, when I plow in reverse the tractor has no pushing power. A modest amount of snow will stop the tractor. The left wheel will just spin, while the right does not move. No problem going forwards, pulling a large quantity of snow. Anyone care to ...

First Snow Plowing with my Dexta!

Installed the motor warmerer (Calix) and now she she starts up easily, at least at -10C. I had no idea if she would plow snow, but the first test went well. Plow on back. 800m. Tough since there are two stone walls on each side, so not much room to dispose of the snow. Some points of interest: 1. Sh...

So what does the temperature gauge sensor do? Does it influence the thermostat, or does that function independently? If the temperature gauge sensor simply reports the temp to the dashboard, then it actually can be removed (during the winter) without effecting the tractor's function. So, can I simpl...

Thanks for the info. Replaced the tap with a screw-on nozzle that seems to fit fine. Now for attaching the heater output somewhere to the upper portion of the tractor. I thought about cutting one of the two 45 mm hoses going to and from the radiator and splicing in a T junction, but that looks diffi...
