Re: 1958 Dexta Restoration

Hi, Charlie 63, looks like you have been a busy man. I like the way things have gone on for your Blue darling. She's looking smart and almost ready to go out in the fields. Like I told you this will be the last time you see her that way unless you are going to show her a lot. I've still not changed ...

Re: 1958 Dexta Restoration

I remember those days well. It's been several years since I did my restoration. I son did all the painting beings he had his own body shop at the time. I posted pictures of my girl but they have been lost somehow. You have to keep the missus happy and keep the fumes out of the house. I'am lucky I ha...

Re: 1958 Dexta Restoration

Ben, my eyes were seeing the same thing you are. It looks just like the starter and generator are combined together. I couldn't get photobucket to work until I double clicked on his picture of Doris and found another picture, that shows there not connected. It does look that way though. I've never s...

Re: Doris NP Super Dexta rebuild

Andy, you've been busy for sure! I like the setup you've done on the air compressor. I'm going to move mine as soon as this heat wave goes away. Here where I live the humidity is terrible, and that causes a lot of condensation. Sometimes I let off almost a quart a day. I saw where a fellow youtuber ...

Re: Doris NP Super Dexta rebuild

You've been a busy man. I like the sound of the direct drive compressor the best, with it's big tank it should be just what you need. I have a 60 gal 5HP 220v, and it does the trick for me. It won't be long until people will be coming out of the woodwork to get work done at your shop. I get that a l...

Re: Online Dexta Parts List

Hi Brian, I see where everyone's having trouble accessing Stevens dexta site. I just checked on the old site and it's all still there. I don't know if someone could go over there and retrieve his information or not, but it's still there.

Re: Doris NP Super Dexta rebuild

Hi Andy, I have been following this rebuild from the very beginning. I believe it is safe to say that you have grown in your knowledge of tractors, and overhauling metal lathes and other machinist tools, used in the making of your own pins and bushings, or anything else that comes up in the near fut...

Re: Breathing?

Hey Ben, the water problem sucks so soon after your restore. Didn't you change the head? If it were me and I had invested what you have in your blue darling. I'd do what Brians telling you and if you see any water you will then need to take the head off and to a machinist to have it pressure checked...

Chris, Brian is 100% right, we all have made mistakes and learned great lesson's from them. You're not the first person to do this, nor will you be the last. Just laugh it off and let it go. I'll tell you a little story: My neighbor needed to grade his driveway one day many years ago, he calle...

Re: Opening the simms pump

If you open up your injector pump for any reason you need to take it to a specialist. I'd advise against that. What is wrong you don't have enough power? How many RPM's do you have? You can set up the RPM's to get more power is the only way I can think of. I hope some of the experts read this and ca...

That's a good looking set up, let us know how it works for you.

Broadspeed, I've never seen anyone put heavy vertical chains on there tractor before. How do these help? To keep your tractor from lifting to it's maximum height?

Re: dexta pto clutch

Adding to what pjjms said, after you put a bush hog/slasher on the back of your tractor, put the PTO in gear before you start your tractor. When it starts like pjjms said work it hard and it will come loose.

Have you had the injector pump apart or off your tractor lately? Let me know what your mechanic says, I'd like to know.

Re: Engine overhaul commences. BUT....

I bought my overhaul kit off of my New Holland dealer. That's been 8 or 9 years ago though. Your greatest cost will be the machine work. Be sure you get a reputable machinist to do your work. I hear that there are two kinds of sleeves now, the one that presses in and the other has a lip on the top, ...

Re: Engine overhaul commences. BUT....

Your head gasket is bad, bad, bad. If it won't line up to the original gasket then it's not the right one or it's probably made in China, throw it in the trash. I wouldn't reuse your old head gasket either, I'm sure someone on here from UK can direct you in the right way to get one that will work. Y...

Bill, That must of have been a lot of work and fun at the same time. I looked at one of those Turkish power steering units a lot time ago, and the guy wanted $600.00 for it. I don't use mine enough to warrant that much money, but the older I get it's never left the back of my mind, especially when I...

Re: Uneven run, low revs, white smoke

Chris, Have you done any work on your tractor in the last 6 months? You do have a conundrum for sure. Have you worked on your injector pump? What about the return line from the injectors back to the fuel tank? It may be stopped up, but I don't know if that would do what your describing. What about t...
