Light duty cooke winch

Hi, I am trying to fit a light duty cooke winch to one of my majors, but as they are pretty rare I am struggling to find any information about it. When I bought it it had been butchered and fitted to a 3pl frame, but I am trying to put it back to original. It fits between the lift arms, and has a sh...

Re: 4wd "conversion"

I like the tandem E27N! A company in Coventry called Paramount engineering actually made a kit for linking two tractors together in this way. That is exactly what I had in mind, Emiel - using the gearbox and backend with the same ratio as the driving tractor. If I can work out how to link together t...

Re: 4wd "conversion"

Thanks for the replies, and the lime spreading photos - it's great to see the tractors working in their heyday! The MF "double butt" is exactly the sort of thing I had in mind, but I'm not sure how the power is being transferred to the rear gearbox? My idea of effectively linking the two PTO shafts ...

4wd "conversion"

Hello, I would appreciate some thoughts on a possible 4wd conversion using a second back end and gearbox to be trailed behind a major and driven using the pto shaft. The idea would be to modify the pto drive unit on the trailed gearbox so a connection using ujs could be made to the pto output shaft ...

Re: Howard reduction box

Thanks for the reply Brian. Can I just check if it is the reduction box that you would be concerned about, or the rest of the system? My aim is not to increase pulling power, but just have a greater range of speeds, in particular for rotavating. My Grandad and Dad used to have two majors with backfi...

Howard reduction box

Hello, I have recently bought a Howard reduction box to fit in my 1955 major with a 6D conversion. It is still in regular use, mostly on roadwork moving a 3 ton digger or tipping trailer but we occasionally use it with a rotavator or on other PTO work, which is why we wanted the extra gears. I am ju...
