Re: Bottom end overhaul

Thanks for the advice chaps it's most appreciated.

I've nearly finished renovating the field, all the hard work is over, then I have to top another 4.5 acres so I'm hoping she will cope before I have the overhaul done.

Re: Thread stripped on fuel bleeder

I wouldn't use ptfe anywhere near diesel. Mine has a copper washer the same as on the injectors and doesn't leak even after several bleeds after work on the fuel system.

Bottom end overhaul

Hi all My 1959 Dexta previously suffered from diesel getting into the air intake and eventually the sump. Initial symptoms were oily gunk spewing out of the exhaust, then oil spewing out of the dipstick then the most horrendous racing on startup after a rest period over winter. I was advised to fit ...

Home Made Box Grader

I needed to level a 2 acre paddock so decided to convert my David Brown Cultivator to a Box Grader. It's a bit Heath Robinson, made out of 2 lengths of old scaffold board, some 3x2 and 2 pieces of welded, drilled angle iron plus bolts (to make it easy to attach and remove from the cultivator). The c...

Re: Stop Cable Clamp

I have the same problem and did try a breaker I use but he didn't have one. Then I found this, it's obviously not a Dexta part but worth trying. https://uk.farnell.com/ettinger/14-42-341/half-cable-clamp-steel-natural/dp/2494617 The bolt should be easy enough, I seem to recall it being a slotted bol...

Re: Urgent - Fan Belt

I swapped my 110mm dynamo pulley for a 85mm one from Anglo and installed a correct size fan belt (12.5mm x 1150mm). It now charges at 1200 rpm instead of more than 1600 rpm so is much better. The generator light starts to flicker at around 1000 rpm and goes off at 1200 rpm. After a few minutes at 12...

Is there a way to stop being logged out when I'm half way through writing a post? This has happened a few times now and I've lost everything I've typed :curse:

thanks

Re: New Member / Buying advice

When fitting your hoses a couple of tips I can give you are: 1. With the rad off, twist the bottom hose away from the fan belt to avoid it cutting a groove in the hose. This is a bit tricky but doable. 2. Also make sure the rubber pads on the bottom of the rad are ok. If they are still there they ar...

Re: New Members Super Dexta

It's a moot point and for my ten pence worth Red = Danger = Oil Light. I realise that this logic wasn't applied 60 years ago but some Fordson designs were just plain wrong (I'm still suffering from PTSD due to the crappy primer pump design leaking fuel into the sump  ) so I wired the red lamp t...

Re: Hay making with Dexta/Super

Wow, great video and brought back fond memories farming in the early 70s as a lad. I remember rowing up on a Massey 135 but we didn't have a front loader so all bales had to loaded by hand in blazing heat. I do remember one incident when the fully loaded hay trailer I was towing, just like the one i...

Re: Urgent - Fan Belt

Since I changed the dynamo and regulator it charged the battery but only at over 1600 rpm. I have only used her for long spells topping last summer/autumn and not much over the winter, so it hasn't been a problem. However, now I'm having to start and stop quite often, only using her at lower revs, a...

Upgrading Dexta Handbrake

Hi all I'm currently renovating a 2 acre paddock which is full of dead nettle roots with the strength of towrope. I'm making progress but it involves swapping implements at regular intervals so I use my brake pawl to hold her steady once lined up. The problem is I keep forgetting to release the pawl...

Wanted - Dexta lower hydraulic arm

The RH lower hydraulic arm on my 1959 Dexta has always been welded (2 steel plates either side in what looks to be the attachment of a new ball end. It works but looks pretty bad so I am looking for a 2nd hand arm to replace it.
