Re: Backend oil

Taking a chance here. been a long time. I am the guy who rigged a hose to pump the rear overflow back to the trans. Anyway. I have managed with a lift that will not stay up. Sounds familiar to some of you I know. Plenty lifting power, then right back down. I recall long ago when I first got the trac...

Re: Engine Oil

I was recommended 90 weight mineral oil for the Major especially since I added the external cylinder hose. It worked fine. She has been parked several years, haven't been doing any field work. need to get back at it.

check chains

They work good to limit how low the lift can go. We use that for a hay rake pinned on the three point draw bar. That lets you raise the rake tounque over rough ground etc.

I knew it !

I reinforced the wobble box on that International and it would suck orchard grass chest high. I took the rock guards off an old #9 John Deere and adjusted the new sicklelike scissors lol. Did you get any of those Heston tractors ? They didn't make them long but I think the same Fiat motor is in the ...

I didn't notice where you're from but around here a shot of starting fluid before working a Major is Georgia Mountain Peach Brandy behind the corn crib. Sorry for your troubles.

external fitting

Actually I needed the external fitting. I think Brian told me it would work to remove the plug ( as you have ) but to plumb in pipe then put the hydraulic coupler on the end. I had a really old International pull mower with crimper rollers right down at the sickle. It didn't have a reel to pull in t...

Belgium /Germany

Very interesting pictures and comments. I worked for a guy from Belgium that was 12 years old when the Germans came through. He told me about building a coffin to bury both his younger sister and brother in the one coffin. Now my sister's husband works for a German. Count Arco www.aacusa.com/jim.htm...

small world indeed !

Larry in Cherryville, I live in Denver. We lost a real longtime Fordson lover not long ago. He owned 5 when he passed away. He claimed to have raised 5 girls running sawmills with the Majors. He said the diesel for the Major was cheaper than his cigars. He had one old tricycle. I don't know who got ...

Was there a front mounted pump originally offered for loaders etc.
The tank would be small wouldn't it ? I have a friend who powers a loader from a pto mounted pump. I'm sure yooou have looked into these options.

Ok

When I mowed with the pull mower it had a one way remote cylinder. Once I raised the arms up the diverted fluid raised the remote of course. The thing is the arms would drop right down but the remote stayed up with no problem until I moved the control down again as though I was lowering the arms. I ...

Lift arms leaking down

I'm not good at searching. Iwas sure I would find this subject covered in the previous post. I mowed hay with a pull type mower so the lift was not essential for that but now we want to restore the tractor. I understand from my wife's great Uncle (who has just about retired, he is about 90, he is a ...

Thanks a bunch. My son had the same notion. It is the original tractor except the front wheels have been changed. Great reading. My son will be very interested. He is undertaking restoring the old girl. Still runs like a new tractor. I did have to replace the rubber diaphram on the pneumatic govenor...

1957 ? Major Glad to find this site

I was searching Brian Dye and found it. Some of you guys may remember some years ago on yesterday's tractor when I got the Major I made a comment about using a hydraulic hose with one end placed in the transmission to draw off fluid which had passed over a long period of time to overfill the rear. I...
