Re: Please gather round and help assess my new Super Dexta
Looking through some Dexta info today I happened across something that suggests the Dexta, at least those produced for sale in the UK, were a positve ground system and used two 6V batteries. The second battery was located back in the location of your mystery cable. Someone who knows the original tra...

Re: HELP! Dexta Stuck In Reverse
Gerald, Spot on. Seeing how this works internally what I suspect happened is I had the tractor in 1st gear and bumped the selector lever sideways. With the work end it was able to slip out of the outboard 1/2 gear selector fork and wedge in behind the other fork pushing it forward into the reverse p...

HELP! Dexta Stuck In Reverse
Title says it all. I was using the front grading blade, not under much load when my Dexta decided it was only going to go backwards. I could have swore I was in 1st Low and maybe I was shifting into neutral or reverse but was surprised when that was suddenly the only option. Well, high range/low ran...

Re: My First Tractor
Charlie, I have an original Workshop Manual in the black spiral bound binder. I've also downloaded the online version. Section 9 is the Electrical System and figure 15 (Wiring Diagram) may be all I need. From the OP I was wondering if there was yet another reference for just the electrical system. -...

Re: My First Tractor
The tractor came with owners manual, electrical service manual, service manual and an engine gasket set. American, My Dexta came with the shop manual and I ordered a reprint of the owners manual online. I've also downloaded a copy of the exploded parts list. I wasn't aware of an electrical service ...

Re: Brake & Wheel Specs
John, Charlie, Good reminder on the asbestos. I've been dealing with this artifact of old technology over the last few years. First replacing 1961 vintage asbestos floor tile in our home with hardwood. Then the "pop corn" ceiling in the rental Shark <funny censor bleep for a place where you live :lo...

Re: Brake & Wheel Specs
Thanks Charlie, Cars are usually good for .060"-.080" over on drums so I'm sure mine have lots of life left. There's no ridge to mention and given how far inboard you can adjust the brakes shoes I'm not worried about the drums hanging up. I'm trying to decide if it's worth even having them machined?...

Brake & Wheel Specs
One of the first things I noticed after picking up my "new to me" 1961 Dexta was that it didn't stop worth a dang. When the brake pedals were not connected the right side pedal sat a good inch or so lower than the left meaning it; a) had less travel and b) possibly wasn't even fully engaging. This w...

Re: My First Tractor
Just ran across another tidbit regarding differences in export paint schemes: 1961-'64 Fordson Super Major In addition to different badges, the U.S. version sported a gray hood in place of the blue hood used on the tractors sold elsewhere in the world. That could explain why the hood (er, I mean bon...

Re: Viewing Pictures
Appears they want everyone who posts a picture to a Forum to upgrade to their P500 plan for only $399 USD/year. Good luck with that smucks! So, even if I were to upgrade (not a chance) I still wouldn't be able to view pictures uploaded by someone else who hadn't paid the ransom. I'm guessing the $39...

Re: My First Tractor
Recently bought a Dexta here State Side. It, like the vast majority over here is blue with "white" wheels. I did go out and look at another one listed on Craigslist that was the "european" color scheme: https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4411/35714954453_445e5c5620_n.jpg 1963 Dexta (Snohomish) See pictu...

Re: Engine Oil
Hi all, newbie here. Just purchased a 1961 Dexta and figured oil/filter would be good place to start pulling maintenance. The tractor came with an original Wookshop Manual (issued in 1958). For "normal" operation it recommends SAE HD Grade 20. I don't think they had multi viscosity oil back then. ht...
