Stripped Clutch Disk Splines

I split my 64 Super Dexta knowing I had some sort of single stage clutch problem. I was mowing some short grass and the machine was not in a bind. It just stopped moving forward. Once I got it apart I found that all of the spline teeth in the clutch disk were stripped and the spline hole is now basi...

Re: "C" Model Light Switch

WOOO HOOO. I took the old switch apart, cleaned the contacts inside, put it back together and it works just fine. To use the tractor the last couple of years I had installed a remote starter button and bypassed all of the electrical system. I didn't need lights and I was putting a battery charger on...

"C" Model Light Switch

Does anyone have a source for a light switch part number 957E-11654-C? Or an aftermarket equivalent? I'm replacing all of the wiring, switches etc. in my 64 Super D. The only part I'm having trouble locating is that switch. There are plenty of the "B" model switches with the key but apparently not t...

Super Dexta Cooling Fan

Hello to all. I haven't been to the site in quite a while. My SD has been doing fine and I've been busy getting my new house built. However, a week or so ago the outer of the two cooling fan blades on my SD broke in half. I have yet to find the piece that broke off. The good thing is it didn't go th...

Super Dexta Fan Shroud

Well, as I suspected might be the case, the pre '65 Ford 2000 fan shroud didn't fit. It was too big. I welded the cracks in the old shroud and beat it back into shape. I cut new "rubber (radiator) mounts" from a piece of old conveyor belt to mount the new radiator. I put it all back together and hav...

Question

Commander, I think I understand what you are saying. You put the mounting bolts through the bushings and the bushings between the radiator and the frame. Is that correct? I have access to some old rubber conveyor belt and was thinking about cutting a strip of it that would fit in the channel all the...

New Radiator

My new radiator arrived yesterday. It was manufactured by Clancy Radiators Ltd. in Limerick, Ireland! The shop manual tells me to save the rubber mounts and grommets under the radiator for remounting. There were on such animals existing on my machine. I looked at the parts manual and didn't see them...

Exhaust manifold problem

I don't know if the 35 manifold will fit but you can get an adaptor pipe and do it. Here is a thread from 09 where I did mine.

Super Dexta Fan Shroud

While I was mowing yesterday afternoon my '64 Super Dexta radiator sprung a substantial leak. It has a number of patches (globs of solder) on the core where it has been repaired in the past. However, it looks as if the tank may have gone out this time. With that in mind, I decided to go with a new r...

Fortunately, I don't have that task on the agenda, but I have to ask, could you use a 2 1/4' socket? I've got a 3/4 drive set that goes up to 2 1/2". Over here they are called hammer wrenches rather than flogging spanners. I wouldn't want to flog or hammer on my breaker bar, but a 10' cheater pipe i...

Overheat can do all kinds of strange things. In this case I would think the head gasket and/or a warped head. All that cranking sounds to me like a loss of compression. Just because it loses compression doesn't necessarily mean it has to be leaking coolant into the cylinders. But as you said, if it ...

When the "blue tuneup" was put on my S-D, they got the paint on so heavily that the serial number was completely covered and could not be seen at all. After I looked at Dextrous' photos earlier this year, I got after the paint with some emery cloth and uncovered the number. I had to take the paint o...

Niall, As I understand it, the gasket to which you refer is the one between the lift cover and the flow control valve chest (aux. service valve chest)? If that is the case, the part number is E189-GF-9. I had a very hard time locating one. Finally, by Googling E189GF9, I found one at a dealer here i...

Niall. Get a new 5/16" high speed steel drill bit and cut off 7/8" from the shank end. The replacement pin should be 5/16" in diameter by 7/8" long. The drill bit is very hard and will last a lot longer than cold rolled steel. I used an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel to cut the bit. Carefully dri...

Brownsmule, I haven't chewed any Brown's Mule in over 40 years! Do they still sell it? I needed an exhaust part and JC recommended BARE-Co. Final Note on Exhaust

I met with the power company folks last week and they agreed to pay for the parts I used to fix her. The cost was $218.18 and the guy said it would cost them more than that to call a lawyer and ask him about it. All I had to do was sign a release, releasing them from any further claims arising from ...

Tmac, I have used the welding technique before but never on a cap screw as small as 5/16. I learned it from my Dad, who learned it during WWII fixing battle tanks. I will be happy to provide any information and help that I can. I sort of documented my efforts in my "Topless Dexta" thread last month. The only real problem I had was self caused when I prematurely removed the four "inside" bolts that hold the lift cylinder in place and it dropped down in the rear...
