Auxillary hydraulics

I`ve finally got a log splitter for my Power Major and fitted it this week. I`ve taken the feed from the plug under the RH side of the seat and returned through the filler. The problem is the splitter won`t work unless the hydraulic lever is held up in the lift position, then everything is fine. I`v...

Re: Fordson-Ransomes EP plough

Just a thought Henk, you are comparing the attitude of the plough shares at the same level as the tractor wheels are on, but in work the plough will be lower than the tractor, would this make a difference?

Re: Some holiday pictures

TSG, yes the rain there has to be seen to be beleived. We were visiting family for 6 weeks, they share milk, and as I do relief milking here in the UK I sort of ended up milking and playing with grandchildren for a few weeks while they had some time off and caught up on odd jobs.I did have some more...

Re: Some holiday pictures

Hello TSG, the pictures are from South Island on the West Coast. There seems to be old tractors and lorries in abundance there, I`d want to bring them all home!

Re: Hydraulic oil circuit

I`m following this post with interest as a friend is making me a log splitter. My main concern is that the oil flow may not be fast enough and I`ll end up with a machine slower than me with an axe! Also will the splitter have to be taken off the 3 point linkage and be free standing during use as the...

Yes Ben, I used the v reg number off an old tax disc that came with the tractor and entered it through a vehicle enquiry button on their taxing a vehicle page. It came up Fordson, date of manufacture 1960, date of first registration 1972 so it must have been used off road for 12 years. I didn`t want...

If I went for an age related plate again I would use a verifier. I found the DVLA at Swansea were a waste of space when I dealt directly with them, I was passed from pillar to post and given the wrong instructions by them when trying to prove the age of my Major, it dragged on for weeks. Eventually ...

Was it a digger conversion? I know they can pull themselves apart if the front is well anchored. Either way it will need a spot of welding.........

Hi Arno. Curiosity has got the better of me. The rear tyres are on the wrong way around, the drawbar assembly is missing but there is a hitching point on the front, was it used to pull something in reverse? It looks to be in a lovelly working condition, congratulations on your purchase

Ian, if the bolts are beyond saving, grind off the surface rust and weld a biggish nut onto the stump. The combined heating and better purchase usually works, mind you its always easy to give advice!

Photos of the axle dismantling would be appreciated Ian, I`ve got to delve into mine at some point its always handy to know what to expect. On a similar subject, does anyone know, I have water in my rear axle oil, are the top plate and filler plug the only means of entry for it? I don`t want to put ...

Just goes to show today`s rubbish is tomorrows collectable. I owned a county crawler bulldozer around 1976, it shed its tracks once too often so we whipped the engine out and put it in a major based Dinkum? digger and sold the rest for scrap. When I say sold it was £20 to have it cut up and removed ...
