Yep. Bought one off eBay from somewhere in the UK. Threw it on, and after I figured out I had it 180 degrees out of sync and fixed that, it worked (still a cold starter.)

I mowed 10 acres with it a couple weekends ago. :)

Well, it now is running again. Have some adjusting to do (nope, won't ever touch the pump again.) What did I do? I bought a pump from someone in the UK on eBay. Installed it, and away it went. It's still a cold starter, but it needs the valves adjusted after the grind, and the throttle doesn't seem ...

Seals just push over the valve stem and go up and down with the valve. They should be like a mushroom and direct the oil away from the guide rather than seal it. Thanks so much! I was expecting them to "snug" onto something so it was confusing me (which isn't too hard at near midnight my time... so...

Valve Stem Seals

Anyone have an image showing where the valve stem seals fit in the assembly? This is for my '59 Fordson Power Major. I checked the manual online here, my I&T manual, and some pictures I took prior to disassembling. The pictures are no help, and the diagrams in the manuals don't show the seals. I see...

Well, there is a local guy that restores tractors and sells parts from a variety of vendors. I stopped by his place at lunch and he looked at the heads and valves. He said it needed a grind and there was plenty of meat left to do one, so I'm going to strip it all apart and he'll do the grind for me....

Well, on my break this morning, I yanked a set of valves to take some pictures (I think I need to get a valve spring compressor... my fingers are sore!) Here's the pictures! http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a60/OrovilleTim/59FPMEngine/IMG_3311.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a60/OrovilleTim/59F...

I can se something different in the second cylinders head section. It is a curved line that goes through the whole area above the valves. Is it a scratch or a crack? You got some coolingwater in the oil aswell when you lifted the head off. I checked the head and that line wiped off. I was scared fo...

Hey LazyT, good luck on your problem. How difficult is it to remove head. Any suggestions, not detail, but any advice on what not to do or anything I should be careful about or anything I should make sure that I do. I think I may need to replace head gasket in the future, I have read the head gaske...

From the pictures, you seem to have an excellent engine with no problems. The ports are fairly normal, intake ports always seem to be a bit oily possibly due to having an oil bath air cleaner. Remove the valves and check the seats. The next place should be remove the timing cover and check the gear...

Ripped the head off my 59 FPM (pics!) Now what?

I pulled the head off my tractor (from the 'Smokin' like a chimney' thread) to get some insight on why it only starts with starting fluid, and just all around doesn't run well when it's running. Still popping, smoking, and poor throttle response. The first thing I noticed was that the exhaust ports ...

Is my loader a "Wagner W7"?

I was searching eBay for Fordson stuff, and came across some brochures for Wagner loaders. I saw the W7 and thought "hey, that looks like mine!" Here is the photo from the eBay listing: http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a60/OrovilleTim/Fordson/WagnerW7.jpg Here are some photos of my Blue Beast with p...

Update! It's alive (again)

Well, this can be good news, and it can be bad news... but, I got it to run again today! It wasn't like it used to be with the crazy "running at full rev spewing clouds of unburnt fuel" at least. Here's what I did: 1. Made sure everything in the fuel system was bled up to the back of the injectors. ...

The one in the green circle is the buffer screw. You can adjust it to help stop governor "hunt". What is "hunt"? Is that perhaps the recovery when the engine "sags"? (all these technical terms, hehe.) We haven't visited my in-laws in a while. When we do, maybe I'll get a chance to see your tractor ...

The manual at http://fordson-dexta.de/downloads/section4.pdf was exactly what I was looking for, even though it wasn't specific to the pump on my tractor. It gives a great overview of how everything works together, but also includes great technical detail on certain things. I liked some of the cutaw...

Simms Injector Pump Information

In my Fordson learning experience, I've come across a great amount of information. The one "hole" in my learning experience has been related to the Simms pump. All the documents always say "consult a authorized service center" or something similar related to the pump. This is all fine and dandy, but...

Re: Thanks Guys for all this good information

Not to take away from LazyTRanch and his problems I had the same problem and found that the governor diaphragm had an 1 inch rip in it. Luck me I just bought a used injector pump on ebay and it came in last week and after checking it out I found the governor diaphragm on that pump was in working co...

Start it up...
Oh, if I only could start it up :) I do like the tip on the purchase of the injectors. I'm going to go search them out, as even if it is the pump, I plan to have this for years and imagine a new set could come in handy later, if not now.

Thanks,
Tim

Latest Update

Well, I spent a good deal of time goofing with the tractor this weekend. End result = no result. Just a recap of what transpired from the beginning: 1. Thing would only start with starting fluid, when it did start it ran way fast and poured tons of smoke. 2. Found out the diaphragm in the vacuum gov...

Did you push the excess fuel button in before you tried to start it? That should give the engine as much fuel as it was getting with the old diaphragm. If that doesn't work, something else must have changed. What made you decide that the fuel system needed to be bled? I did not know of that button!...

Did you take the pump off to change the diaphragm? If so, it is possible that you have the timing 180 degrees out. Check that the clamp bolt on the pump drive shaft is towards the underneath of the shaft when all the marks line up. Left the pump on and just removed the governor assembly so all is a...

If I get a chance (and it's under 100 degrees), I might try that tomorrow. It was close to 100 here today, and its usually hotter where you live, so I'll bet you didn't work on it today. Tim, Its late right now and I'm half asleep, but the only thing that I can think of, at the moment, is the governor spring. Did it get left out somehow when you changed the diaphragm? I'm sure that all went back together as in the manual. But, since it was the only thing that really "changed", I th...

Well, I went back a little later and goofed with it again. There is now little squirts for all cylinders right before the injectors. Perhaps some air still needed to be bled. Still no starting or continued run after using starting fluid. Frustrating. I like it better when it smoked, at least it ran :(

It's like chasing down one problem just brings me to the next  Well, after changing the diaphragm and verifying the "suction test" is working (holds until fingers come off the holes,) and installing the new elbow, muffler, and raincap, I tried starting it again. Well, nothing without starting...
