Re: Wiring up my 64 Super Major
Thanks for the replies. I did figure it out. I found a wiring diagram of the regulator. From the regulator D terminal to the big terminal of the generator, then the F terminal to the field of the Genny, the red to accessory terminal of the key switch, the E terminal on the regulator to ground. The k...

Wiring up my 64 Super Major
My Super Major wiring is a mess. I plan on ordering a new harness but I would to see if my generator and regulator work first. I am looking for a simplified wiring diagram that I can use to test it all out. My generator has two terminals, one large, one smaller. The regulator, on the bottom are 4 wi...

Re: Super Major Hi-Lo transmission won't shift.
Took off the side plate to try to help the shifter with no luck. Note to self: never again start the engine with that side plate off! Totally soaked myself with oil in about 1 second! I guess I'll be proficient in taking off the shifter and steering box real soon.

Re: Super Major Hi-Lo transmission won't shift.
Well after dodging raindrops all afternoon, I got it all together. I left it in the upper position and tried it out. It went well till I decided to put it in the lower position. Now it's stuck there again. Tomorrow I'll try again. I can access the shifter dog through the side access plate, so it won...

Re: Super Major Hi-Lo transmission won't shift.
I got back to work on the SM this morning and decided to get a little more aggressive with the beast. I pried with a crowbar on the dog and it actually went into gear pretty easily. Now refilling with new oil and putting the covers back on. Thanks for the hints! I just hope it all works when back to...

Re: Super Major Hi-Lo transmission won't shift.
I took off the shifter cover and steering column and the right side trans cover to try an figure it out. I can shift the Hi-Lo in both directions, but it doesn't seem to move enough to lock into gear when moving it to you up position. I tried prying on the shift dog, but no luck. It looks like the g...

Re: Super Major Hi-Lo transmission won't shift.
I did as you suggested, and the pin is tight on the shaft. The shaft moves with the lever, but does not engage the gear. Any other suggestions? I even tried striking the shaft with a hammer and punch to see it I could jar something loose but no luck.

Super Major Hi-Lo transmission won't shift.
I already started another thread asking this but I thought I could maybe get some more suggestions. 1964 Super Major. Two stage clutch. I'm not sure if I'm in lo or hi range, the lever only engages in the lower position. When I move it to the upper position, the lever moves about an inch or so but i...

Re: Super Major Hydraulics
Wow, thanks for the quick reply, AND the useful information. Back to the Hi-low lever. In the down position all works fine. I guess what I thought was a neutral position is actually supposed to be the upper or hi gear. It snaps right into the upper position, but no tractor movement. Any suggestions?

Re: Super Major Hydraulics
I did some reading last night and saw that non live PTO tractors, the PTO has to be engaged to operate the lift. I tried the lift with the PTO engaged and it would lift then, but would not go down without me putting some weight on it. I thought my Super Major had live PTO. What's the difference betw...

Re: Super Major Hydraulics
I found a dipstick there just in front of where the tranny bolts up. The stick has "trans" stamped in it. It shows full, but a little milky. Tractor been sitting for a couple years. Another thing I found is the Hi-Lo range lever only will go down, (low) and neutral. I've pulled up pretty hard on it ...

Super Major Hydraulics
I have what I believe to be a 64 FSM. The hydraulics aren't working. I wanted to check the fluid level but I'm not sure where to check. There is a large flanged nut on the rear, but no fluid there at all. I looked inside and it is clean but no fluid visible. If this is the reservior what fluid shoul...
