Re: My New Performance Super Major Story.
When ditching with the Power Arm, it’s common to use the boom to repeatedly push the outfit forward into a new position as work progresses. Occasionally, if the tractor doesn’t move easily, the forces involved can cause the linkage (and the whole machine) to move upwards. This isn’t a problem with o...

Re: FSMajor wheel wobble
A minor adjustment to the toe-in can be made by widening the slot in the track rod with a grinder.
You are then relying on the clamp to hold everything in place, so a short run of weld could be considered. (Guess how I know)
An inch and a half of toe in will strip the tyres in no time.

Re: My New Performance Super Major Story.
I’ve recently replaced almost every hose on a mid-seventies International Wainroy digger. Cost: roughly £1000. While it may seem bonkers spending so much on a machine that age, I’m now fairly confident that I won’t finish each day smelling of £50 worth of oil.

Re: Hi-Lo Lever
Thanks for the comments. My query relates to the knob at the driver end.
Some are cast as one piece (similar to starter lever), others have a much larger, screwed-on composite knob.
Why the difference?

Hi-Lo Lever
Any significance concerning one-piece levers as against knobbed levers?
I thought they changed in later years, but I’ve recently seen photos of early Majors with the larger, screw on end.

Posting photos here is above my pay grade.
The slot cover measures roughly 3/8” by 1 1/2” with a light groove down the centre, smaller than the Dexta’s.

I took a quick look earlier and sure enough, the adjustment slots are there, on the inboard face of the backplate. I’m pleased to report that one slot is fitted with with a narrow metal cover.

Major Brake Drum Cover
I replaced the brake drum cover on my 54 Major today. Things didn’t go that smoothly. It all started some time ago, when I renewed the oil seal inside the drum, got distracted and left the job unfinished. The cover has four slots to take the securing bolts into the backplate. With the inspection win...

They look right. The rear lamps will also need mounting posts on the wings.

Re: Hydraulic control issues
I can’t comment about the operation of the draft control in the original post. However, the description of the linkage in position control doesn’t seem unusual. Slowly raising the hand lever will cause the arms to lift in a series of small jumps or steps. Wear on the internals may well affect precis...

Re: Horndraulic loader seal kit?
Seals for the later Horndraulic/Ford cylinders should be readily available, 2” from memory. I don’t think your earlier model has the same rams, so measuring the diameter would be your first move. Companies such as Driveshaft Services near Bridgend should be able to supply what you need, even if they...

Re: Power Major and external hydraulics.
The Major linkage doesn’t need bracing like the grey Fergy. On the Major, the hydraulic lever controls the oil flow directly.
On the Fergy, once the linkage is fully raised, flow stops.
In use as above, physically holding the linkage in the raised position will speed up implement lift cycles.

Re: Buying a Dexta special? in france
Unless you’re cutting elephant grass, a Dexta will fly away with a 1 metre topper. As for possible overheating, if an engine boils it produces unusual smells and lots of steam.
Undo fuel feed to lift pump to check for a good flow of diesel.

Re: New Member from South Australia
The two expander plates should come out together once the operating rod is removed. If they have rusted into the housing, it may be possible to unhook the retaining springs and remove separately. The balls are large enough that they shouldn’t get lost. Another thought: with end cover off and operati...

Briefly run the engine without fan belt. If the squeaking disappears, it’s either the w/pump or Dynamo.
