Re: Lift lever linkage assembly
If your lever will not easily push down then it sounds like the valve plunger may be stuck or binding and need further investigation but as previously stated the lever is spring loaded therefore does not stay in the Up position for constant pumping, like the Super Major will, but does return to the ...

Re: Fordson Major engine number 2412 BSEP
That's great thank you and makes sense! It looks exactly the same as a Blue/Orange Super Major engine but does feature a late numbered pneumatic governed fuel pump. I'll get around to seeing if it'll start soon! Many thanks again

Re: Fordson Major engine number 2412 BSEP
Hi and thank you for your reply. Yes those are the "normal" engine number codes which my other Majors feature but this engine appears to have had the original number ground off and a four numbers - four letters configuration ID professionaly restamped in the same style as the Ford stampings. I wonde...

Fordson Major engine number 2412 BSEP
Hi all, just wondering if anyone can shed any light on an engine fitted in a Major I recently acquired. She's a pneumatic governed 4 cylinder as fitted in Diesel, Power and early Super Majors, the Pump number is SPE4A 75S 561 with the engine number stamped in front right corner which appears to read...

Re: Assistor rams for 1963 County Super Six
Well finally the least techno minded person on here managed to upload some photos of my Heavy Duty lift linkage I have built up on my Super Six. All based on original lift linkage but modified according to measurements taken from an original kit I was kindly allowed to measure. It is as accurate as ...

Re: Assistor rams for 1963 County Super Six
Well to update everyone I found a tractor fitted with original assistor rams which the owner kindly allowed me to measure. I took these measurments to my local hydraulic and engineering specialist and had a new pair made to the original design and size which thankfully fitted into my brackets superb...

Re: Fordson Power Major-Live Drive?
Hi James, your Power Major sounds like a standard drive version. With a Live Drive version the Hi/Low lever is Up for High & Down for Low - easy to remember! Live Drive was an optional extra though when these tractors were built so never assume because it's a Power or Super Major then it'll be Live ...

Re: Super or not.
Hi Sven, I personally prefer the live drive option having 6 Majors fitted with it for use with loaders, forklift, topper, mower, haybob and baler work..... which leads me to answer your question regarding minimec v's pneumatic governors. The minimec was introduced in 1962 (pre blue/grey Supers) and ...

Assistor rams for 1963 County Super Six
Hi folks, I'm wondering if any one can help in my search for assistor rams to fit a 1963 Super Six (based on Super Major, not thousand series). I realise my simplist option may be to have new ones made but I cannot get hold of original drawings/dimensions either to achieve this. I have built a full ...

Re: Super Major hydraulic bobbing
Well I finally got back to my hydraulics and given the advice I dismantled the unloading valve. The plug certainly showed signs of scoring around the edges and the valve itself had had the O ring removed completely. I debated and opted to fit a replacement at the risk of a sticking valve.... but we'...

Re: Super Major hydraulic bobbing
The o ring can be removed and renewed I take it? I've pulled the "Delrin" seat and valve seat out now so I'll clean the bore up before fitting the new replacement Check Valve then have a look at the unloading valve and plug. Many thanks

Re: Super Major hydraulic bobbing
Hi Adrian,
Many thanks for your post and that does make sense, I'm in the stages of dismantling the cylinder housing so I will examine that area thoroughly and purchase some Loctite 603! Thanks again

Re: Super Major hydraulic bobbing
....a little more information.... when I last had the lid off and having studied the workshop manuals, I had raised an implement up on the lift, switched engine off and watched what happened - sure enough she crept all the way down to the ground. This indicates piston seal, cylinder safety valve or ...

Re: Super Major hydraulic bobbing
Hi Rick,
Thanks for the help, I've had a read through various posts but nothing quite answers my Q's. I know it will be something simple at the end of the day, it always is with Majors, but I've not had this much trouble with my others! Thanks, Charlie

Super Major hydraulic bobbing
Hello folks, I've just registered so new here but am an avid E1A fan, however I am having a testing time with '63 NP Super hydraulics which have been bobbing when carrying an implement. By that I mean Bob every 3 - 5 seconds! I have had lid off, new seal on piston, new O rings between cylinder housi...
