I dont put any in the rear axel as this is a separat system,I belive the oil in both is 15/40.As lo...

Re: Fordson Dexta Diesel oil leak

sounds like you might have a bad headgasket  try filling the radaiator then with the cap OFF rev the engine vigorously several times,if the radaitor pukes large quantities of coolant the gasket is blown.Test should be made with the thermostat fitted!!
Take care, lets hope its false alarm!

you all are probeley right about the compression, still isent it odd that she shows no sign of heavy breathing when worked hard?

poor cold-starter

hello again, My "new" super is not starting well after a night at 4-6 degrees Cent. The engine is on the starter for several revos. of the crank before before stumbling to life and emitting huge amounts of grey smoke. She starts and runs fine when warmed up,no aparent blow-by or heavy breathing.Using...

Re: engine overhaul

Thats Great Stuff, cant wait to to try it! Rick-thats a cheeky way of doing it! reminds me of doing a scored bore in a longstroke marine diesel at sea with a large angle-grinder! standing on the piston-crown.Not time enough to haul the piston up.

Rick
Your bore-deglazing,would that be a hone-job and new rings or what?(my supers bores look like theyve been varnished)

tiney o-rings in headgasket set for super.

Hi there.
cant seem to figure out where they go,theres 8 of them about 11mm diameter square-sektion.the number sugests they are for the valvestems but there is also a set of stem-seals included like the old ones in "my" head.
Hope that makes sense!

Will try the gauge trick.
Unworn,unworn- I think the pistons and liners are replacements since they dont have the markings on the photo uploaded by Mathias.

Re: Super major transmissions leak

Oil level in rear-end should be checked with the dipstick next to the long gearlever.Lift-arms down!
Transmission (gearbox) is checked at the alu-fillercap by the clutch pedal.oil should be close to overflowing.
Thicker oil wont help much against leaks, only slow down hydraulics.

Re: ID of pistons in block

Mathias,my pistons have only the "arrow" marking. Oerick. The timing seemed to be correct (about 20-23 deg) so i tryed moving it a couple of degrees back and forth which did not seem to have much effect.Odd I think because if i do that to my "old super" there is much noise if advance/much black smoke...

Re: ID of pistons in block

Mathias, Thanks for the pic,are they Ford pistons or replacements? I will check mine when I have cleaned the crowns. I dont think it is just the pump bearings I can hear, have you ever listened to the engine of a Ford 5000 (the big 1000 series tractor) Thats the kind of noise i mean,Like some...

New Performance valve springs

Before i dismantled the valve assembleys in the head I found that I could twist the the assys back and forth simply by gripping the outside of the spring with the fingers of one hand, and I am by no means Arnold Swartzenegger. I.E. the valve springs cant be very strong, perhaps time and strain have we...

Re: 62 fordson power major

Before you buy another pump remove and dismantle the old one.
Check for obvious signs of wear and scoring on the internals"-plastigague" (cheap) can be used to dertimine the exact tolleraces .
A new pump is not cheap.

Re: 62 fordson power major

-Are the cross-shaft arms correktly installed and in good condtion aswell as the other arms and linkrods, and is everything assembled correcktly? Noise from the pump should indicate it is "making an effort". What happens if you turn off the engine with the lift raised and something on it? If it stays...

Re: 62 fordson power major

The oil squirting when aux block is off is for a loader, log splitter etc controled by the slide-valve in the aux bl (normal). If the lift is attached to something heavy enough, the front wheels should become airborne when the lifthandle is raised no matter what the engine revs. The controlvalve is pr...
