Re: 62 super major, live drive, pto won't disengage

Thank you for all your advice. Final question. Is there anywhere that rebuilds a Super major pressure plate in the USA, or is there a kit to overhaul it myself ? The price for a rebuilt pressure plate is over 800$ U.S. and that's all I can find available. I had found a new pto pump for a super major...

Re: 62 super major, live drive, pto won't disengage

Just so I am not making an idiot of myself, do you have a picture of the stop pin and where the storage location hole is, you are referring to? I am assuming if this pin is in the storage hole, it prevents the pto from being able to engage and disengage ? I have tried pushing the clutch pedal and en...

62 super major, live drive, pto won't disengage

62 model super major. I can get the pto engaged on a rotary mower by pulling the pto engagement handle at just the right time, along with pushing the starter handle down. If it doesn't "catch", I have to shut the tractor off and try again. Once everything is spinning, I can mow 3ft tall, thick grass...

Re: 62 fordson super major pto clutch won't disengage

There was no pin according to where the manual showed it placed. I adjusted the pedal according to the manual, and even tried adjusting it a tad bit to tight, so it only had about 1/2 inch of slack in the pedal, and when I press the clutch pedal all the way down the pto still turns my finish mower w...

Re: 62 fordson super major pto clutch won't disengage

I am not sure about the pin yall have mentioned, nor have I ever paid attention to there being a hole around the clutch area.
I pray it's that easy.
I have not had a chance to work on it yet, but am going to read through the link for adjustment according to the manual now.

Re: 62 fordson super major pto clutch won't disengage

Thank you for all the replies. I have adjusted the pedal to have about 1.5 inches of free play, but will look at the manual and see if I am doing it correctly. The problem has been there every since I bought the tractor, but I've learned how to engage the pto while cranking the engine 😅. I can disen...

62 fordson super major pto clutch won't disengage

Are there any adjustments to the pto part of the dual clutch setup on a Fordson super major, other than the pedal adjustments ? My clutch pedal will stop forward movement, but will not stop my pto from turning, even while turning a rotary cutter in heavy brush. I have even tried to have the cutter r...

Re: What is the correct engine rpm for 540 pto rpm ?

Ha ha. I wil try to stop the cruelty to my major, but it likes some dirty, hard work from time to time.. lol
Thank you for your advice !
At 1200 rpm heavy brush will bog my engine as well.
I will bump the rpm up a little, so it won't strain as much.
Thanks again !

What is the correct engine rpm for 540 pto rpm ?

I have a 1962 fordson super major. I have always used 1200 engine rpm when running any kind of pto driven attachment that is rated for 540 rpm. I read a conflicting article that on the super major that said if the "raised pto" was a option, which my original tachometer did say on it, then the engine...

Re: What am I missing ? Hydraulics Bobbing

Are you saying I should put locktite on the plug that has to be pulled out, to be able to get the unload valve out ? That thing was a beast to get pulled out, and i had to tap it back in, very lightly with a small chissel hammer. It seemed tight, but I will for sure try the locktite on the plug. Any...

Re: What am I missing ? Hydraulics Bobbing

With the 2000 pound brush mower, it will drop about 4 inches in maybe 10 seconds.
Basically from a high cutting heighth, back to the ground, in 10 seconds or less.
The blades edges are about 3 inches high, inside the deck, so I carry it about 3-4 inches high, and then re cut it lower.

Have you replaced the solenoid ?
I thought my starter was bad and it turned out to be the solenoid wouldn't pass the amperage needed.

Re: fuel line won't bleed

I just went through this myself. No fuel out of the tank, to the pump basically. The petcock on the tank was clogged. It was a mess, trying to get the petcock out, with about 5 gallons of fuel in the tank. I should have siphoned the tank ! After I removed the petcock, I screwed it back in, just to u...

Re: Major muffler

I had a under slung exhaust with a silencer type muffler. I removed the muffler, because it was full of crud. The plus side of a under slung exhaust is not having to worry about ripping it off on low hanging tree branches. The draw brack is the exhaust when you are changing implements. Rarely are th...

What am I missing ? Hydraulics Bobbing

I have a 62 super major. The lift top has a block off plate on top of the lift top, where alot of others seem to have things like flow control, tipping pipe, etc. Mine doesn't have any of that. It is only the lift top, with the check valve in the front, and the pressure relief valve. Other than that...

Re: 62 super major starter and injector rebuild

Thank you all for replying about the starter fitment. My tractor usually fires up, after 3 to 4 good revolutions, with a strong battery and starter. Luckily I tested my battery voltage and noticed my battery was charging at almost 17 volts, at a raised rpm. ! I had the battery tested and it tested b...

I honestly don't know anything about the starter fitment. Maybe someone that has already converted their major to the newer starter can comment on that.

62 super major starter and injector rebuild

I have a 1962 super major. I am looking for a injector rebuild kit, and found a injector tip replacement online. The replacement tip advertisement, says it is suitable for a Fordson super major as well as a older Ford thousand series, like a Ford 4000. Does this sound correct ? They both use the sam...

Check valve ball size ?

I have a super major that the check valve, or some call it the non return valve, the ball is dented slightly. I want to get 2 new ones and use one to lightly tap the ball against the seat, to hopefully form a better fit. Then use the brand new one for use. What size ball am I supposed to use ? http:...
