Re: Super Major lift arms

I have removed the valve chest ansd found quite a lot of 'gunk' under it. So have ordered a new gasket and O ring set, cleaned it all up and have to wait now for the gasket but I feel that I have put too much goo on it and it has blocked some oil way. Lets hope it all works, I'll let you know :D :D ...

I have seen them squash into the hole before now, so they both restrict the flow and leak at the same time
Thanks John b, I've replied below but I think your suggestion of restricted flow may be the cause.

Re: Super Major lift arms

Well thanks for the replies. I have had the valve chest off before and had no problems, why it has decided to do this now is a mystery. The only thing that is different is the addition of this particular type of gasket sealant, applied with a brush as opposed to just a 'squirty type' of sealant tube...

Super Major lift arms

I've been subsoiling today and the valve block sprung a bad leak, the gasket having failed. So into the workshop, remove the valve block, claen everything up, apply Heldite gasket compound to both surfaces, fit new O rings onto the block, refit the block, leave for a short time to let the compound g...

Re: valve block on rear end of super major

Will do Sandy but there is a slight oil leak from the outside casing of the brake so off it must come !! I guess there is an oil seal in there somewhere that needs renewing.

Re: valve block on rear end of super major

Thanks for advice Sandy, I've managed to fix the leak in the glass bowl filter so all is well.
Next the offside disc brake needs dismantling, I think there may be an oil leak from the back end into the housing as the brake is non-functioning. Hope it's not a 'major' job !

Re: valve block on rear end of super major

Well the gasket never arrived so this morning made one. Put some instant gasket where necessary, put the valve block on, bolts in and hey presto, all works well....on tick-over anyway !
Thanks for all your advice and help. Got a few diesel leaks to attend to now....

Re: valve block on rear end of super major

Hi Sandy, Thanks for the diagrams. I have taken the bull by the horns and got the plugs out, not by the method described but by my own method ! Plug D already had a small hole in it so I put a wood screw in and it came out easily. Plug C, I had to drill a 2mm in it and it came out easily. Then I had...

Re: valve block on rear end of super major

The leak, not gushing, is from the rear of the valve block, the smaller of the two ports if that helps.
I wonder, if you would'nt mind giving me an email address I can send pics that way ?

Sorry Sandy, I cannot even get Photobucket to accept me as a paying member !
Why can I not just copy and paste onto the site, as with other sites?

valve block on rear end of super major

Hi My super major is leaking oil from the left hand port of the valve block. I have pictures but am unable to put them on the site. It's the smaller of the 2 ports, I am guessing that there is maybe a ball in there secured by a roll pin. Can anyone put me right on this please and suggest a remedy? T...

Gearbox breather bolt

Re the breather bolt, I've just fitted a live drive box, new oil and seals etc and find that there is oil seeping from the steering box/gearbox joint when it gets warm and on reading this I am assuming that it is being forced out by pressure because there is either no breather bolt or it's blocked. ...

Re: Oil supplier

I found the breather bolt. Absolutely caked in gunk so no way it was breathing through that. After a good clean and can now blow air through it :). So progress made one job done only 999 jobs to do :) Wonder how often that needs to be checked? Peter Re the breather bolt, I've just fitted a live dri...

Re: Super major brake seized

Thanks for that. I have tried reverse but am reluctant to 'force' it unless that's the only way. Also a bit reluctant to take the thing apart...is it a big job that an inexperienced bloke can undertake ?

Super major brake seized

Well after successfully getting the tractor back together having 'upgraded' to a live drive clutch, I started the tractor this morning and found that the left brake is seized solid. The right wheel turns freely. I replaced the bushes and oil seals on the clutch/brake shaft while there was access to ...

Re: super major clutch pedal removal

Good tip Sandy, came out easily once I had identified how to do it ! Thanks. Finally got the gearbox in and the engine on the gearbox but what a struggle we had to get the engine properly engaged. Got the pto shaft engaged on the dual clutch shaft but the gearbox drive would NOT engage. Eventually h...

super major clutch pedal removal

Hi, Whilst in the latter stages of replacing the gearbox I want to renew the seals and bushes on the brake/clutch cross shaft before fitting it. I've got the brake pedals off but the clutch pedal is more of a challenge. There is a 'bolt' without a head or nut that seems to be stopping the pedal from...

Re: PTO shaft removal

Well I started out gently with a soft headed mallet and ended up using a lump hammer and a 1" d shaft as a punch and eventually it gave up and moved enough so that I could get a slim chisel behind the casting, so all is well thanks. I hope it all goes back together when the 'new' gearbox goes in in ...
