Re: New Member

I am no authority on the crank corks, but I have successfully put several cork crank seals in David Brown's, and a set In a Dexta. Using some Silicone Gasket Maker glue your cork into the place for it in your sump, then with a razor cut the ends flush. You are supposed to make dummy bearings out of ...

Cracked head?

Hi all, Haven't been here for a while! My problem on my 60 Dexta Diesel is this... No leaks anywhere outside, and recently repaired radiator. It goes thru a lot of water, but no water in oil. It doesn't have problems running, and has instant start up. I am wondering if this points towards a cracked ...

Re: Fordson Dexta Diesel oil leak

I just did a rear seal on my 1960 Dexta. You don't need to remove the sump! Split the tractor, remove the clutch, flywheel and engine adaptor plate, and that will give you all the access you need.

Re: Dexta Diesel Overheating?

Maybe a thermostat? I cooked my David Brown Cropmaster engine because of a rusted thermostat.

Re: Fordson Dexta hydraulics

Hi Mervyn, Thanks for that! Today I found the serial number, buried under several layers of paint! 957E 53189 Do you have an exact date other than 1960? Our local wreckers have a couple bonnets and nose cones, $250 NZD each pair. Going to have a look later next week. Too bad we aren't closer but can...

Re: Fordson Dexta hydraulics

Hi Mervyn, Just an update...I brought the steering box into our engineer's to find out why the new nut wouldn't screw on. Turns out that the box was full of dirt, rubbish and water, which explains why it wouldn't turn easily even when not under load! He cleaned it all out, removed all but one of the...

Re: Fordson Dexta hydraulics

Hi, Thanks for the info! As I said there is zero hunting now and it runs perfectly! I have booked it a clutch replacement this week, so I'm hoping it goes well. Yes, I'm 19. My Dad, Mum, 6 siblings and I moved out here to run a firewood business, so tractor fixing is always on the back burner. I'm n...

Re: Fordson Dexta hydraulics

Thanks for that Mervyn. The bonnet is very usable, but I am on the lookout for an original one! The fog lights haven't been wired up for ages, but when they work, they are very bright! Exactly what colour are the wheels supposed to be? About half of the Dexta's I've seen have white and the others ar...

Hopefully it works.
Not sure of year or anything. Where do I find that info?

Fordson Dexta hydraulics

Hi there, I am hoping I can get some answers from this forum! A Dexta was the first tractor my family ever bought, because it came with a new tiller. Now we have had over 16 other tractors through our place, and it is still my favourite! We used to call it "The Unstoppable Dexta" because when you pu...
