Re: Dexta Wheel Colours
Hi Bradson, In Australia the wheel colours on Fordsons varied depending on what state they were delivered in. As far as I know Victorian tractors from the 1950s onwards had red wheels, which matches with the picture you have. Other states used other colours. I have seen another Dexta that looked ve...

Early Super Dexta and standard Dexta nose cone appearances
My Dexta was a resto project that the previous owner got too old to complete, I was lucky enough to get it and have some questions. so far we have been able to establish it is a April 1962 built tractor, and it has a 152" motor in it, it also appears to have all of the features of the Super Dexta ex...

Re: PTO problem
I didn't know the Dexta has 2 positions for the clutch pedal linkage (sounds similar to contemporary Massey Fergusons) Glad you got it sorted! well it seems like this little tractor may be more than I thought when I bought it, it appears to be a Super Dexta (chassis and engine numbers suggest its a...

Re: PTO problem
Problem solved, I had the slasher running and I deliberately run over a small mound of dirt and as I did this I pushed the clutch fully in.... This was enough to break the grip on the clutch which I assume was from many years sitting. Everything is now fully functional. I have used the Dexta a few t...

Re: first lot of problems with the Dexta
I gave the Dexta a run with the slasher/mower on today, after about 1/2 hour she was running great, no overheating issues whatsoever... I stopped and checked a couple of times and it was all good

Re: PTO problem
update, I noticed that the clutch arm had a rod with a t position clevis pin with an R clip, so I moved the rod to the rear hole to see if that mad any difference, it now feels like it has a 2 stage clutch, I can feel the initial transmission engage/disengage part and then the extra feel of the PTO ...

PTO problem
I did some mowing today and the little Dexta was great,
but,
I could not engage the PTO without turning the motor off, engaging the PTO and then starting the tractor again?
is this normal?
any info appreciated

Re: first lot of problems with the Dexta
I am in Victoria mate.... I got it all back together over the weekend, gave it all a good flush out and it is running perfect. drilled a couple of small holes in the thermostat to eliminate any air locks and it is much better. I also picked up another fan blade on ebay so when I get that on plus a f...

Re: first lot of problems with the Dexta
Thermostat out first, check rad clear in an out, only then think about a fan cowl which wouldn’t be necessary for trundling round the roads. that's good to know that the cowl isn't a critical item, however the main purpose for the Dexta is to keep the grass under control and its also summer here so...

Re: first lot of problems with the Dexta
Thanks Charlie, I have the thermostat out and I will test it in boiling water today, I am also going to pressure test the radiator for leaks and do a basic flow test on it today to see how it passes water or if is blocked, if all goes well I will get a radiator cowl and reassemble, thanks for the in...

first lot of problems with the Dexta
day one, I took the Dexta for a quick drive around the yard and within a few minutes it was smoking hot... engine hot - radiator cold, likely stuck thermostat, pulled radiator today and will give it all a good clean, it has a single blade fan (2 blades) but no radiator cowl.... the previous owner sa...

Re: New here, Mick from Oztralia, need info on Dexta
picked the little Dexta up yesterday, all looks ok for its age, no signs of oil leaks, steering seems good, everything works and starts easily without any assistance from heater or ether.... so far happy with what I got... it was cheap and needs some rust repairs in the rear mud guards and some pain...

New here, Mick from Oztralia, need info on Dexta
G'day Fellas, I am new to this place as I am looking at a Fordson Dexta on Saturday to buy. my old grey fergy has finally met the end of its working life and the Dexta has been chosen as its replacement. is there anything that I should be aware of or look for with the Dexta? are there things I need ...
