Re: Spotted for sale - Taskers farm wagon
That's annoying... I've got a scan of the leaflet here but I can't post it or find similar on line, it has the Fordson badge in 2 places on it. I also found an almost identical leaflet on ebay advertising the same 'farm wagon' as New Holland. An interesting link from the 50's?

Re: Dexta nose badge
Sometimes you just can't win. Removed the grilles, rolled up the sleeves, and discovered - not threaded pins - or starlock washers - nope, instead some concoction of probably 2-pack bonding substance which defied all damage free attempts at removal.
At least I suppose no-one can nick it.

Daft question time...
Are the pins on the back of the badge threaded or is it fixed with starlock washers?

Re: Wheel torque settings
I am erring on the side of caution, it's not my machine but I need it to be safe and be able to give it's owner a checkable figure. I was using the the Massey settings as a guide as the wheel/hub assemblies are very similar, it's 80 at the front and 200 on the back but I don't need to be snapping st...

Re: Wheel torque settings
Thanks Sandy. Odd that there are just no figures. To get them equal I'll probably go with 75 lb/ft on the front, and about 120 lb/ft at the back.
Is that reasonable?

Wheel torque settings
Hi,
Can anyone tell me the wheel bolt torque settings for a '64 Dexta? Looking for front and rear wheels to hub and rear rims to dish please?
Thanks.

Re: Not original starter
The tyres shown in your photos are 6 ply, they'll be fine. Just order a pair of tubes to suit a 5.50x16 tyre. They'll come with standard Schrader valves (same as a car) already fitted. If you're not familiar with fitting tyres it's best to take them to a fitter and have them do it. Being nosey, are ...

Re: Not original starter
When most tyres are advertised, some are marked as TT or tube type. To run tubeless the rim seats need to be absolutely perfect and older rims just aren't designed to take tubless valves. It's not much more compared to the cost of the tyre.

Re: Dexta nose badge
By 'colours', I was looking at your first pic of the up to 1957 badge. It looks like more care was taken and more interesting by bringing out the details set into it.
Thankfully I won't be the one doing the painting!

Re: Dexta nose badge
Thanks for that, it's a shame they did away with the multiple colours later on, I guess single colour badges were cheaper to produce?
I've a feeling the owner will probably go for the colours now we've seen them. I know it's wrong, but it's not my machine.
Cheers.

Getting ready to take cover...
What colour scheme should a '64 Dexta nose badge be? Also, what other colours were used on Fordsons generally? Thanks.

Dexta / Super Dexta MIL loader availabe
This was removed from a '64 Dexta. It comes complete with all brackets, rams, fittings, and pipework, only missing the grill guard. It was never fitted or used in our ownership so can't guarantee the ram seals or flexible pipes. To be collected from Reading/Basingstoke area. Open to offers.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Not original starter
I wonder what the engine was in originally? The extra pulleys suggest a 'Bowman' style raw water marinised conversion, but the pedal arrangement could have been a 'dead mans handle' for a narrow gauge loco - all very intreaging.

A wooden wedge or similar each side of the engine between the bolster and the front axle to stop the engine tipping over sideways while it's not attached to the gearbox.

Just an observation, have you got any form of wedges each side between the front axle and the engine frame?

The easy way to check...
Place a pin in the middle hole
Count the number of holes to the left; X
Count the number of holes to the right; Y
Factor in the number of holes occupied by a pin; Z
(X+Y)+Z= which one is which.

Re: Not original starter
As a caution, your Dexta is now likely to be 'negative earth'. No biggie, just something to be aware of. It's a question of reliability or aesthetics. What I'm seeing are reliability type upgrades. The p3 was always a good starting engine so I would suspect when the time expired original needed repl...

Dexta Pick up hitch
Deap breath - here we go. We're looking out for a Dexta puh. What is the difference between a Dexta puh and an early 2000/3000 puh? Looking online they appear to be very close to identical. Even interchangeable perhaps? As 'Dexta' ones are very few and far between, well you can see where this is goi...

Re: Fordson Major Pickup hitch Available
I belive in parts of the eu they're known as an English hitch. I've never seen a Major with one but I'm told they were foot operated? It's the main reason my Major sees no use on trailers. There's very little, I'd go as far as to say 'nearly nothing' in the way of trailers in our area that use jaw a...

Re: Top links
Hi Sandy, probably a couple daft questions... As most 3 point impliments start with the A frame close to vertical before adjusting in use, were the extra 4" added to give more adjustment range or were the lower links extended at the same time? Was the dual cat link the one with the 2 sizes bored thr...
