Re: Not original starter
I wonder what the engine was in originally? The extra pulleys suggest a 'Bowman' style raw water marinised conversion, but the pedal arrangement could have been a 'dead mans handle' for a narrow gauge loco - all very intreaging.

Re: PTO problem? Gearbox noise Super major 1963
A wooden wedge or similar each side of the engine between the bolster and the front axle to stop the engine tipping over sideways while it's not attached to the gearbox.

Just an observation, have you got any form of wedges each side between the front axle and the engine frame?

Re: Linkage Drawbar
The easy way to check...
Place a pin in the middle hole
Count the number of holes to the left; X
Count the number of holes to the right; Y
Factor in the number of holes occupied by a pin; Z
(X+Y)+Z= which one is which.

Re: Not original starter
As a caution, your Dexta is now likely to be 'negative earth'. No biggie, just something to be aware of. It's a question of reliability or aesthetics. What I'm seeing are reliability type upgrades. The p3 was always a good starting engine so I would suspect when the time expired original needed repl...

Dexta Pick up hitch
Deap breath - here we go. We're looking out for a Dexta puh. What is the difference between a Dexta puh and an early 2000/3000 puh? Looking online they appear to be very close to identical. Even interchangeable perhaps? As 'Dexta' ones are very few and far between, well you can see where this is goi...

Re: Fordson Major Pickup hitch Available
I belive in parts of the eu they're known as an English hitch. I've never seen a Major with one but I'm told they were foot operated? It's the main reason my Major sees no use on trailers. There's very little, I'd go as far as to say 'nearly nothing' in the way of trailers in our area that use jaw a...

Re: Top links
Hi Sandy, probably a couple daft questions... As most 3 point impliments start with the A frame close to vertical before adjusting in use, were the extra 4" added to give more adjustment range or were the lower links extended at the same time? Was the dual cat link the one with the 2 sizes bored thr...

Re: to much sway in link box
Been having a think about this - dangerous, I know... As John said, the rule of thumb on light kit is cat1 pins face inward, cat2 outward. Sway bars, even one sway bar, should fix it fairly solid. That said are we talking horizontal bars from the lower link to under the axle at the wing mount bolts ...

Re: Super Dexta battery support/hold down.
Just to be clear, I haven't got a Dexta here at the moment to refer to. I know the top frame has 3 points for hold down bolts but we currently don't have the bolts. From looking at what bolts were available logic suggested it would be reasonable to assume they simply went to the battery tray - obvio...

Dexta pricing
Hi, would anyone happen to know how many Dextas were produced and what the list price of a Dexta would have been at launch and at end of production?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Super Dexta battery support/hold down.
You should have a frame that sits around the top of the battery. That is held in place by three long bolts with a 'flat hook' on the end which hook onto the edge of the battery tray.

Very interesting, thanks for that. I guess 'Minor' had been trade marked by Morris at that time.
Looking forward to finding out what they would have cost new.

Dexta production run and prices
Hi,
Questions, questions...so
Anyone know how many Dextas and Super Dextas were made?
Any ideas on prices when new?
I'd always thought that the Dexta was named after the Dexter small cattle breed. If so, was there a reason for the spelling change?
Thanks.

Hi,
Are you restoring or in everyday use?
If reliability comes before looks maybe a geared starter would suit your needs. It will crank easier and faster, reducing stress on the battery - but it will stick out like a sore thumb. If you may be interested send me a pm and I'll pass on more details.

Re: Measurements for full cover to be manufactured locally for my Super Dexta
Before tractors had cabs, we used old scout ridge tents. Waterproof canvas, not far off the right shape and easy to fit if you put it on so the nose goes in through the 'door' then (minus exhaust and mushroom) slides over and the door ties do up behind the seat.
