Re: Fordson major grinding noise

Just remember to jam some wedges or similar between the axle and tombstone both sides before you start to stop it tipping over.

Sort of a 60's toy robot vibe to it. I wouldn't want to be on and off it all day.
Bit of a tractor theme there - Massey 394s in the back ground, can't identify the red machine with the lid off, and love to see more of the crane. :D

Re: Super Dexta Hydraulics

Beats me. To my mind the movement in the top is 'limited' - the piston can only move so far, the dog bone can only travel so far, which limits the rotation of the cross shaft... etc. Wait, do the arms go all the way down? If not, is it remotely possible that there is something inside the piston ie s...

Re: Super Major low hydraulic pressure

From memory, the slip clutch was adjusted to a setting with a feeler gauge in the spring coils - just don't ask me what the setting was. The reason for mentioning it was that they were often seen as trouble and so were done up dead tight and coilbound.

Re: Super Major low hydraulic pressure

Nice set up. As it lifts the rotorvator well, could it be an iffy gauge? I would have thought if the measured value is correct it would struggle. Rotorvators can be quite brutal to a tractor - Is it new to you? If so it's worth taking the shear bolt out and giving the pto a spin just to make sure it...

Re: Super Dexta Hydraulics

Take on board that I know nothing about the dexta, is it possible the primary lift arms have been removed at some point in it's history and were replaced on the wrong position on the cross shaft? I'm not sure it's even possible but just a thought.

Although the op did say they pulled the fuel filter out, I was just watching a Dexta on 'Bundy Bear's Shed', and that has a single cartridge/element type similar to a grey. No idea on the part no. for that!

I don't know who to attribute this to, but could apply in your case... Positive ground depends upon proper circuit functioning, the transmission of negative ions by retention of the visible spectral manifestation known as "smoke". Smoke is the thing that makes electrical circuits work; we kno...

Re: FMD Starter problem.

I think I'd use a separate battery with jump leads straight to the starter. If that works ok it's a connection issue, if it's still the same them suspect the starter.

Re: Power Major and external hydraulics.

Mathias, Am a bit foxed by your question my friend. The PTO is not connected to anything when raking. The rake is a simple Vee rake and the times are turned by contact with the ground. No power to them at all, and hydraulics only used to raise the rake wheels for transport. Think of a double acroba...

Hi, I'm looking for a set of front mudguards and brackets to suit 7.50x16 on a 333 or highway Dexta etc. Thanks.

Re: Power Major and external hydraulics.

If the rake is single acting ie simply lift or lower, I'd suggest connect the lift pipe from the rake ram straight to the tipper connector on the tractor. It will still lift the arms first but there will be only one lever to deal with. Not ideal but should get you raking.

I asked on the HMVF web site and if you would be willing to share photos of the original number plates and build plates they may be able to fill in some history for you. The Military info plate would have things like contract numbers or service modifications codes.

Does Kenny still have an MOD plate? If so the original MOD reg (NN AA NN) should be there and it may be possible to trace some history.

Column change Rubiks cube gearbox! Depends how long you want to spend trying to select a gear - any gear - disaster. It was supposed to be a syncro box but it took so long to get from gear to gear you always came to a halt. Flat floor cabs with floor change were ok, and I believe a few were produced...

Re: Choosing and finding a Fordson Major

On the surface it looks like a nice restoration. I would think it's had new clocks in it. 3x2 transmission (no Multi-Power splitter). Foot throttle is a nice thing to have. It will have most of the bells and whistles on it compared to a Major, but then it is a whole generation ahead.
