Re: Dexta production run and prices

Very interesting, thanks for that. I guess 'Minor' had been trade marked by Morris at that time.
Looking forward to finding out what they would have cost new.

Dexta production run and prices

Hi,
Questions, questions...so
Anyone know how many Dextas and Super Dextas were made?
Any ideas on prices when new?

I'd always thought that the Dexta was named after the Dexter small cattle breed. If so, was there a reason for the spelling change?
Thanks.

Re: 3000 1969 starter

Hi,
Are you restoring or in everyday use?
If reliability comes before looks maybe a geared starter would suit your needs. It will crank easier and faster, reducing stress on the battery - but it will stick out like a sore thumb. If you may be interested send me a pm and I'll pass on more details.

Isn't something as simple as the range lever knocked into neutral is it?

Re: Measurements for full cover to be manufactured locally for my Super Dexta

Before tractors had cabs, we used old scout ridge tents. Waterproof canvas, not far off the right shape and easy to fit if you put it on so the nose goes in through the 'door' then (minus exhaust and mushroom) slides over and the door ties do up behind the seat.

Re: Transmission stuck on parked Major

I think I'd be inclined to put it in top gear and rock it gently backwards and forwards. If the fan belt is still intact you will hopefully see the fan twitch - first signs of life. If it does, and major engines being what they are, you could 'go cheap early' and give it a tow, you might get a surpr...

Re: Hordraulic loader ram seals leaking

Would still be good practice to cap off the connections though, keeps dirt out, threads clean, and on occasion those connections can have razor sharp edges ready to catch the unwary.

These used to turn up regularly at auctions in the early 80s. I'm led to believe they were used to tension overhead pylon cables.

Re: Rust in the fuel tank of my 1945 Fordson N

Maybe a hand full of nuts and bolts in there - count them first - tape up the openings and strap it to an electric cement mixer drum. Adjust the angle every so often to get all the corners, then empty it counting all the blots etc so you know you've got them all. Rinse with vinegar, then a lining of...

Re: solenoid troubles

I don't know if I'm missing something here, but I can't see the high current cable leading from the damaged terminal. The screw on the bulkhead suggests this has been replaced before and looking at the wiring some more investigation may be needed. If I'm right in what I'm thinking there should be a ...

Re: solenoid troubles

Looks like it's had a bad connection on the left post (as we view the picture), it's got very hot and the post has moved in the plastic. I would suspect the high current terminal no longer makes the connection inside properly. I've got to change mine at soon as it has suffered a similar fate.

Hi,
Simple one I hope...
Should the arms or quadrant lever be any particular location before moving between position and draft control?
Thanks.

Thanks.

Re: Grass/turf tyre options

Hi,
Just be aware that if you're used to having standard ag tyres on the back for what you do, grass tyres will have much reduced traction on wet grassy slopes. That can get 'exciting' real quick.

Re: Dexta not starting

I had this happen on a TEF many years ago. The problem on that was the pull stop was pulling the pump lever just slightly too far. Once that was adjusted it then became habit at the end of the day to always leave it with the stop in and the button pressed ready to go next day. Still do it today with...

Re: Dexta not starting

Ah, sorry, just reread the trail... As it's been stood a while I would go with Sandy's suggestion of a couple of stuck plungers. If you pop the cover off and wind it over you should see three moving plungers. As a curiosity, have you tried tow starting it? When our major arrived it had been stood fo...

Re: Dexta not starting

The lack of fuel at the injectors together with the excess button not staying in still says to me the stop control is stuck, it's the lever that pivots on the excess button. It needs to be in the 10 o'clock position ie fully forward as far as it will go. The button should stay in regardless of throt...
