Re: oil level stick question

Sandy,

question about the link you sent. "top of the locating tube" is in my opinion the right end (if you look at the picture in the link) of the locating tube, you agree?

Re: oil level stick question

Hi Sandy, thanks for your link with the measurement. Yes I know I have the rare cast iron tractor sump with pivot point for the front axle triangle. I have the same as this one: https://www.tractorfan.nl/picture/1488734/ (in the picture is a repro!, the one I have is not a repro) with the exeption t...

oil level stick question

Hello everyone! the collar of the engine oil level dip stick is loose and it is not clearly visible in what position it was. So now I can push the dip stick too deep so I don´t know the correct oil level anymore. Questions: -are there differences in Fordson Major engine oil dip stick lengths? -is th...

Re: Super Major low hydraulic pressure

Hello Sandy,
I was wondering why O-rings and a gasket are used?
The later Ford valve blocks only have O-rings en no gasket, right? With the mating surfaces steel-to-steel.
I never used a combination of these. Or is this just a typical Fordson era construction?

Sandy, who is Super Billy? You mention that name quite often. Is it the name of your tractor?

Which problems do you have?

Re: regrinding valve stem caps

Hi Sandy, I would like to post pictures. I did in the past, but it's too complicated to do so I forgot and have to revive my Photobucket account etc.. Now I got emails from photobucket that my account is too long unused and so on... Other forums are easy, just navigate to you PC folder and upload.

Re: quick question fuel return line

Hi Emiel, that's what I thought. Thanks. I think I scrapped the old washers during disassembly but I can't remember. It's a tricky matter with internal injectors and line. At my employer, we have 7% diesel pollution in the engine oil in a CAT 3512 at the moment due to injector leakage. This engine a...

quick question fuel return line

Hello everyone, quick question. It's about the fuel return line beneath the valve cover. Are there supposed to be copper washers (sealing rings) between the line and the fuel injectors and between the line and the bolt heads? On the drawing at the new holland page there are no washers visible, but I...

Re: regrinding valve stem caps

Hi Sandy,
Yes they look like the ones you see in the link.
Today I ground 10 of the 12 caps and did finish them by hand with a very fine oil stone. I'm very pleased with the result.

Re: regrinding valve stem caps

Hi Emiel and Sandy, No, not to adjust clearance, but I want to regrind the top surface of the stem caps (where the rocker push against) as these surfaces are damaged due to wear. Valves, guides and seals are new. The seats reground. Also new cam followers. I saw new caps should be available through ...

regrinding valve stem caps

Helle everyone,
I was wondering if someone had the valve stem caps reground. Most caps on my engine are pretty beat up, pitted surface and so on. The damages are very undeep so I was thinking to try to grind the surfaces.
Didn't had a look at the rockers yet.

Re: engine/transmission dowel pin question

Hi Sandy, this evening I played around with the sleeves and dial gauge. The effect in sleeve height when rotating the sleeves is very minimal. On some sleeves the value does not change, on other just 0,01 mm. Also I clamped the first sleeve with 4 bolts and washers, with the dial gauge on the sleeve...

Re: Small end bushing

I decided to renew all bushings, not only the one. Otherwise I'm going to have one nice and tight bushing and 5 more or less sloppy ones
Don't want to save on the wrong end, otherwise I'm convinced that the engine will not fale on these bushings before someting else is worn.

Re: Small end bushing

Hello, thank you for the post with the tolerances for the 35 mm eye. Yesterday evening I was busy with my rods. I measured the eyes with a special dial indicator for holes (cilindercontrolleur in dutch language) which I could borrow from my employer. The eyes varied between 34,935 and 34,35. I suspe...

Hi Emiel,

yes we mean the same edge.

Rotating the sleeves resulted in a variation of approximately 0,02 mm.

Re: engine/transmission dowel pin question

Hi Emiel, I don't know exactly what you mean with spigot. The translation programme give a lot of very different meanings of this word but I found none of the applicable  I zeroed a dial gauge on the engine's deck and moved it to the liner outer ridge, so where the fire ring of the gasket is go...

Re: engine/transmission dowel pin question

I forgot to mention I just gave the bearings a polish with a very fine scotch brite like brush on an air tool. The tool just fitted trough the bearing rings so I was also able to reach the last bearing. I checked with a small mirror and I believe the babbitt is quite intact.

Small end bushing

Hello all, I can only find the wear limit for the smaller type piston pin bushing, not the 34,9 mm one. The new piston pins are 34,92 to 34,93 mm. The bushings bores are about 34,95-34,96 mm with exception of the bushing where the cracked piston pin was discovered. This bushing has a high read of 34...

Re: engine/transmission dowel pin question

Hi Mathias, Never experienced at any tractor make that both sides of the dowels are press fit in this application. As everything has a little play and their tolerances, it can grow old with maybe 0,05 mm misalignment. I also put in in gear and turned the crank. My father with a big plier turn...

Re: engine/transmission dowel pin question

Hello Sandy and Emiel, I tapped the dowels out and they were not o.k. I measured the holes and turned new ones on the lathe. The hole diameters were slight different. On the gearbox side 13,50 mm and on the engine side I turned them 14,31 mm. They are installed with a press pit on the gear box side ...
