Re: Major restoration

Hi Terry, Have you checked the injection timing using the marks on the flywheel? I had my pump rebuilt and used mimec degree instead of Simms degree, and had a nightmare trying to start it up. I re-read all the technical information and re-timed to (I think) 21 degrees and he now starts up without e...

Re: Major restoration

Hey Terry There should be a copper washer in the bottom of each injector port, these seal the injector into the cylinder head. If the washers aren’t there or have worn then I would suggest that the oil on the injector tips is coming from the top of the engine (Under the rocker cover) and leaking int...

Re: Major restoration

Terry,

Is that not the base that has totally separated from the intact part of your diaphragm?

Re: identify the tractor type

Hey taff, It could be a number of things! My FPM ran for a bit when I first got it and all of a sudden it died. I sent the pump off to Bob Beck (highly recommend him) and he completely rebuilt it as he found it was U/S. However, I’d check that you don’t have an air blockage, maybe pull the air intak...

Re: Crank Pulley Removal Tool (home made!)

Henk- I have seen that new aftermarket pulleys are available on a couple of UK sites, but I’m not expert enough to know whether they are for all Majors, or have been incorrectly classified as Major parts when in fact they could be Dexta parts? Mine is a FPM and as such ordered the 63.5mm seal which ...

Crank Pulley Removal Tool (home made!)

Hi all, I’ve been nice and busy sorting various things with Trevor- the steering box being one (new bearings, shaft, seal and worm nut) which wasn’t difficult but time consuming and very frustrating as the ball bearings aren’t enclosed in a race! The other more pressing was the crank pulley leak fro...

As Old Hywel suggests, I too think that this may have been built as a loading shovel machine rather than a tractor, but I’m no ex...

Re: Major restoration

Hi Terry My FPM had an old loader attached when I bought it, and I removed it on advise from several chaps wiser than me, their thoughts being that the steering would wear prematurely with such a lump of weight over the front axle! I had the luxury of a forklift truck at work, so put a sling around ...

Re: Steering box

Dave, You weren’t wrong... I’ve never dropped so many expletives trying to get those dastardly ball bearings in! I was fortunate enough to have the shaft delivered this morning, but underestimated how long the rebuild would take. Especially given the heat we’ve had in Devon today! I must have starte...

Re: Steering box

Dave I’m currently rebuilding my box too... it’s in bits on the bench waiting for parcel deliveries after the Bank Holiday! I’ve got a new seal, new shaft and nut, and new top and bottom bearings but like you, couldn’t find any shim kits. My mate who runs an independent LR garage suggested that I co...

https://i.postimg.cc/MGDHystS/D30-D6-E52-623-D-4-C2-E-8-D76-E365-AD3-EF1-EA.png With regard to the hydraulic lever, I’ve looked at the diagrams from the NH parts list, and it states only one O-ring (no. 62). My problem is that I have oil weeping from the pivot hole above where the number 45 is- has...

Re: Leaks.... All over the show!

Thank you gents. Trevor is a 1960 Power Major, number 155****. I appreciate the sentiment of keeping the pulley on for historical purposes, so maybe I’ll rethink that and replace the seal rather than blank it off. I would post a photo of the hydraulic lever, but it’s absolutely pouring here today an...

Leaks.... All over the show!

Hi all 10 days ago we had a lovely Fleming 6ft topper delivered, and I’ve been out on Trevor mowing the field (4 acres). I’ve established that I have more leaks than I initially thought, having already replaced various seals before I bought him home (I’ve been working on him at work until recently.)...

Re: Seized Engine

Hi Cobungra, When I was on breakdown recovery we used to use Cola, as mentioned earlier in this thread... it’s amazing what it can eat away at so I would suggest pouring a ‘cold one’ onto each cylinder and leave for maybe 48 hours and see if you can crank it. It eats away at rust, diesel atomising a...

The weep from the hub seal has been fixed but I’ve not yet cleaned the wheel off! Notice the very shiny Simms pump... it was in a very bad way but Bob Beck Fuel Inje...

Hello! I’m new...

Good morning from Exeter, Devon (SW UK) I thought it a bit rude to just join and post questions immediately and from what I gather it’s good etiquette to say hello before asking for advice and help! Also shows the moderators that I’m genuine I believe? I’m Tim, 36, I’m Operations Manager/truck drive...
