Re: Temperature mystery

I agree, but there are so many mysteries like that!
Superb find John! Now we know how to fix them, the only hurdle is getting diethyl ether! Now to try for luck on ebay and get a gauge for Billy (not very much there at the moment). I would still prefer a complete one but it's not essential.

Re: Temperature mystery

I see it's quite different to what you find in an oil pressure gauge, you've encouraged me to have a go at fixing one now! It might have been bent at some stage if it overheated, which could explain the low readings. Slightly off topic, if anyone has a failed Major temp gauge I would like you to ope...

Re: E27N P6 Wiring Diagram

I don't know if the wiring was very different between the spark ignition and P6 E27N's (it is actually a bit different, different to a Major and Dexta too), but the spark ignition diagram is in the instruction book in the FFCN: https://www.fordsontractorpages.nl/ffcn%20web/ffcn-leden/ffcn_leden_tech...

Re: Fordson SM Clutch Play

When the rod is very short there's a very real danger of the levers hitting the PTO plate as a result, when that happens the pedal will not reach the stop bracket, and it will ruin the levers and the PTO plate if used at all like that. I don't think it's particularly likely that you'll be in that si...

Re: Fordson SM Clutch Play

That makes this more complicated, but you adjust it with the same clevis. Remove the stop pin and check that when you press the pedal fully down the PTO just stops (adjust as required). Now fit the stop pin and see if there is any improvement, if not adjust to get correct free play and test the PTO ...

Re: Fordson SM Clutch Play

I assume you have a single clutch (a dual clutch is much more complicated, if you do have one you'll find a stop pin in the pedal stop bracket) you need to change the length of the release rod by adjusting the clevis (slightly out of sight in the pic). https://i.postimg.cc/fyCDHbs6/2021-H20-2c.jpg O...

Re: Fordson SM Clutch Play

I would start by readjusting the free play, it does sound a bit like some lining on the friction plate has disintegrated, but if you say it still pulls hard I would readjust the free play and be careful until you find a good moment to have a look inside as you'll need to split the bell housing for t...

Re: Temperature mystery

I was just about to say how you could always use both at the same time as there are two holes in the head but then realised how used I am to the mk2 head! Do be careful not to break it, you could however try to move the needle a tooth or so further up so it shows a value that's roughly right. Once y...

Re: Starter barely turns

When we first got her the wires were clipped off of the switch. I'm going to guess the previous owner had the issue and bypassed it by using a toggle switch. I think that's very likely, Billy's previous owner (who also had the house) used to bump start him on the slope under the pine tree, never us...

Re: 55 FMD Fuel shutoff cable

I think you need just a bit more cable, to ensure you get maximum fuel with the button pushed in, the stop lever should always be in this position when running: https://i.postimg.cc/C5z6Sr6W/2021-P31-3.jpg When you press the button the stop lever should be under spring pressure for its full travel, ...

Re: Starter barely turns

They can get very worn if not adjusted properly, and then changing the bendix is only a half repair as the ring gear is also badly worn, we did that on Billy ages ago and this is what came out: https://i.postimg.cc/hGBLGQ6M/2004-P19-2.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/prp8Sf5V/2004-P19-3.jpg He still has tro...

Any year shafts will fit, but the hevy duty ones need a different seal housing which isn't sold by aftermarket suppliers, the seal itself is the same.

Re: Halfshaft identification and seal help

I finally managed to measure Billy and Super Billy, they're both the std. type, the measurements aren't as accurate as I would like because our calliper isn't big enough. The red ones are diameters, the blue ones are between the blue lines parallel to the axle shaft (the diagram is from the parts bo...

Re: Fordson Super Dexta Project (Alberta, Canada)

I would have kept it original, but that's just me. There are replacement cusions around if you want them. You should be able to find LED bulbs for the original lights, having said that I really don't think you need more light than you get from the original bulbs as you'll never be going that fast an...

I'm afraid it won't be till mid morning, but I should have them by then, I'll also measure Super Billy for comparison, also completely original.

Re: Halfshaft identification and seal help

It's looking a bit like the sizes might not be right, don't do anything yet, I'll try to measure Billy's shaft and seal externally tomorrow, it could be that industrial shafts are different - I've just looked at the parts book and they are indeed! I'll give you Billy's measurements tomorow, I think ...

Re: Fordson Super Dexta Project (Alberta, Canada)

That's a very nice Super Dexta you've got here. You appear to have very large rear tyres and strange lights (a modern seat too, but there are quite a few like that), but otherwise it's a pretty original looking one.
Enjoy it as much as you can!

Re: Halfshaft identification and seal help

That half shaft apperas to have imense wear, there is no separate collar, so I can only think that it's been interfeared with beforehand. Did you remove a tapered roller bearing? If not this collar is probably the old bearing inner race. I'm afraid you now have a very difficult repair to do, unless ...

Re: Topping with the 1960 Power Major

If necessary you can also use the belt pulley in low, giving plenty of choice of speed, bearing in mind most things used a belt speed of 3115 ft/min running at 1400 rpm in high. I don't think the John Deere would be powerful enough for such a heavy crusher, the Major should be fine with it, probably...

Re: Topping with the 1960 Power Major

That's all great stuff you've got there, the crusher looks great as it is, I would just give it a clean and use it. Looks like it's quite heavy, so it probably won't travel much but I might have over-estimated the weight. I can't over-emphasize the need for a good belt.
Enjoy your new toys!

Re: Temperature mystery

Sounds like you've sorted that out now, I think your gauge was miscalibrated on assembly, as they do indeed either work fine or not at all. They might have heated it to 90ºC (or anything similar) thinking it would be ready soon and then there was a change of shift or something similar which meant it...
