I'm not sure either, but it could be a bit of rack bush. Other than that maybe part of the weight carrier but other than I can't think of anything either. Make sure a good check is made in everything to ensure no surprises like this remain in the pump.

Re: Fordson Serial #1
I'm afraid that's not a 1917 tractor. It was probably completed on 23 April 1918, but not the first Fordson (that was an MOM from 8 October 1917, not counting the X prototypes or earlier experiments), and nor was it the first to have a branded part, for a few appeared earlier. You could argue it was...

Early Fordson's and prototypes
Not sure what people have in their mind on the early history up to 1918, but these articles here are bound to make many of you think again about the early history if you haven't read them. I certainly didn't know this part of the story. Stuart Gibbard hints at it a bit in The Ford Tractor Story but ...

Re: Leak off from the injectors.
That sounds like very good injectors to me. There will be a bit of leak-off but the less the better (usually as little as a couple of drops per hour). It's not leaking from the injector cap nut copper washer. Make sure there isn't any leaking there or it won't reach the leak-off line. There should b...

Re: Tombstone
I've already mentioned elsewhere it's not UNC, it's BSW. Both are 3/4"-10, but the minor diameter of the Whitworth is smaller. a 3/4" BSW bolt will fit a 3/4" UNC nut but will fail easily, the reverse isn't possible. You can confirm this in any Ford publication (repair manual or parts book).

Re: Temperature mystery
Apologies all, I'd forgotten I bought many years ago a copy of the service manual for the 'industrial engine', which includes the 592E. I've dug it out but it may not answer exactly which thermostat I have as it's for 'engines built from January 1st 1960 (engine number S.174500 onwards)'. I think I...

Re: Thread size fuel line on a Simms pump
Looks like you've got that sorted. Can you post a pic of the pump (39289B)? Just wondering what it looks like, I don't think they're UNC, UNS fits more suitably but could be metric too. Bare in mind this was a vertical one, and it has 45º helix plungers (E1ADDN-993153) rather than the later 50º ones...

Re: Thread size fuel line on a Simms pump
The delivery valve holders never changed (E1ADDN-993228, Simms P.81995) until the minimec. The nuts on both pumps should be E1ADDN-993178B (Simms P.81977), the thread never changed, these are the ones with 3/4 AF hex (the earliest E1ADDN-993178 was longer and had a seal inside and 18 mm long instead...

By the way I assume you mean the injector pipes. The pipe into the pump from the filter is 1/2" UNF (nut B-9243A).

Re: Thread size fuel line on a Simms pump
Rechecked it with a thread gauge, it's between 16 and 18 TPI, so could be M12 x 1.5, although it's not really what you expect here. Looking for the world series part number, just to see if it was meant to be the same as a Major, but can't find it. The Dexta is the same, so will fit. Can't seem to fi...

Re: more questions sup engine rebuild
Really asking about the age to know what camshaft it had, indeed Ford sometimes asked for a bitsa repair, such as the service camshafts E1ADDN-6251C and 528E-6251C and gears E1ADDN-6256B and E83-CP-9 and E84-CP-9. Not just that but also between petrol and diesel, notable in lorries more than tractor...

Re: Thread size fuel line on a Simms pump
Just looked at our stuff, I'm measuring 15/32" diameter, possibly 14 TPI. Not sure if it is actually metric or not, I'll check more accurately later. There does seem to be a 15/32"-14 UNS. Seems odd but you never know, Mk2 drain plug EB-6730 is 3/4-24 UNS, so not impossible.

Re: more questions sup engine rebuild
Was this tractor older than 1599502? I've just checked both our old camshafts (both E1ADDN-6250D) and both have two drillings. It could be a change issued for the new setup, or even 1609839. It could also go back to 1511488 when E1ADDN-6251 appeared. It could also be related to a repro part, for the...

Re: Thread size fuel line on a Simms pump
Both ends are the same because they use the same nut (E1ADDN-993178B in you case). I haven't found details on this but will measure ours tomorrow and see what I find. Good to see you back by the way.

Re: more questions sup engine rebuild
Could the drilling in your friend's camshaft have been out of position? Not likely but just a thought. Could also have been dirt in the drilling. I think the code is 4J29, but there were no changes from June 61, so if it was a late change that's as late as it came (unless it was never mentioned, not...

Re: more questions sup engine rebuild
I have seen dual drillings for exhauster feeds here, but really don't know about this, looks like there were small unlisted variations. The camshaft in question looks like 528E-6250D, from the look of the cams. It might just be a lorry feature, but don't know for sure. Could also be specific to late...

Re: more questions sup engine rebuild
Don't really know, but it would have been there from the moment exhausters became available. I had thought that was around the time lorries got the engine (March 54) but not so sure seeing other details. Need more parts books to find out, plus service letters.

Re: Engine front mounting plate for Industrial Engine
Your engine is a 592E, but as you've already guessed many parts fit all of them, as is the case here. I've got a parts book (owner, September 63), hoping to find a dealer one soon (plus loads of other stuff!) and I sent Henk a copy, although he's a bit busy at the moment. Hope he gets there soon, th...

New oil pump for diesel engines
Most of you will have seen that the oil pumps available today are 528E-6600 and slightly modified E1ADN-6600B, with shaft 528E-6609 and a gear that is like E1ADN-6652 (1/2" wide) with oil holes like 528E-6652. But I found an Ebro pump available new here: https://www.fridayparts.com/engine-oil-pump-a...

Damping valves
Many of you will know that there are many damping valves used in Major's. The first one, E1ADDN-993113 is very rare, by June 52 it was already replaced by E1ADDN-993113B. From 1425097 it was replaced by 510E-993113, which would outlast its use on tractors in lorries. Finally, from 1539230 E1ADDN-993...

Re: Thames Trader: With FMD engine Vehicle performance?
To convert a tractor engine to lorry (1600 rpm to 2500 rpm) you'll need to swap the following parts (details depend on serial, this is for a late 64): sump (528E-6675B instead of E1ADDN-6675B), front mounting plate (508E-6030D and 508E-6060 instead of E1ADDN-6030A), camshaft (528E-6250D instead of E...
