Correct. I know what you mean, unfortunately Dexta instruction books seem difficult to find on internet, there's one on the forum but many of the pics aren't visible at the moment.

Re: Greasing front trunnion?
The Dexta front axle pin isn't fitted with a grease nipple, nor are most Fordsons, only later Super Major's (although Billy has a pin I wish all Major's had, with a nipple at each end). If you remove it you might want to hive it a bit of grease, but then there's a risk of it atracting dust and becom...

Re: NP ratio stamping
I didn't know this one, I was used to the chart in the repair manual. I'm going to try to add the Ebro 160 ratios, so you can see how different those ratios are, you can look at the charts in the manual I posted here: https://www.fordsontractorpages.nl/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=8385 It's also nice...

Re: NP ratio stamping
The casting is definitely the NP type, but as later the earlier type was also offered again it doesn't really help (having said that the year of the casting makes it theoretically impossible to find an earlier PTO on a tractor of Super Billy's age). We'll find out driving Billy and Super Billy side ...

Re: Three point linkage stuck up.
Glad you've fixed it, very nice Major you've got there, looking pretty original. Your LH lift arm is a rare pick-up hitch type, not many of these around now. The exhaust also looks like a factory fitted type (not the spare type that is very common from repro companies as well as true Ford ones), but...

Re: NP ratio stamping
I'm pretty sure Super Billy is a Super 55, but herein lies the problem. As far as I know Ebro never stamped the ratio on any of their tractors, and although the Super 55 is said to have been made with the slow ratio only, as the 160 (and all later models and possibly the very last Super 55's as well...

NP ratio stamping
I think there were a few pics of that on the forum but unfortunately they seem to have dissappeared. Does anyone have any as I'm thinking about Super Billy (I'm 99% sure he's the slow ratio but until he runs I won't know for sure, and wish the ratio had been stamped)? If there were any variations it...

Re: FSM Nose Badge Colour Scheme
There are detail differences in the original ones depending on the period, but there are some very poor new ones around that look totally wrong, and I fear that's what you have just got. I would keep the original one but that's just me.

Re: PTO work with a non-NP PTO
The intercep (see here: https://www.fordsontractorpages.nl/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?p=60364#p60364 ) is the same, and usually once a year as far as having to replace it. The compressor shouldn't cause hunting as it runs pretty fast compared to the PTO shaft, but it's worth knowing this. I'm not sure how...

Re: PTO work with a non-NP PTO
Thanks John, that's comforting to know, I know all about setting the revs by feel too, as Billy doesn't have a tachometer. I think it was hunting that would eventually cause the casting to fail, and I seem to remember someone pointing to a particular baler that was notably bad in that sense but I co...

Re: PTO work with a non-NP PTO
The reason I mention this is that someone was commenting on how at 1200 rpm there was a kind of motion that would cause a much earlier failure than the same load (on the idler gear) at 1600 rpm, hence one of the many good reasons for a raised PTO. This might be in connection with the max torque bein...

Thanks Emiel. It seems strange that the number was changed from 1131 to 1128, but that might have happened before the E27N. Great to know about this parts book for when anyone needs F or N parts.

Re: Early hub caps
I've just answered my own question finding an old Fordson parts book on Ebay, until the end of the Cork N the hub cap appears to be part no. F-1603. I suspect there were some earlier part nos. too as there were several caps in the first couple of years. From 1933 to 1945 it would probably have been ...

Early hub caps
Does anyone happen to know the part no. of the early hub caps? The later type was E27N-1128, but I'm not sure if the previous type is an N or F part no., as the only one we've got (Billy's LH one) doesn't have any markings (nor do any of the others, apart from those that are stamped EBRO).I don't se...

PTO work with a non-NP PTO
Hi all, We recently got this compressor that Davie has been charging marvellously (we also got a cultivator and mounted box), but we're hoping Billy can do it so he uses his PTO (it's also rather heavy for Davie to carry around). https://i.postimg.cc/Dw4ghTnr/2023-C18-10.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/W4M...

Re: Tachometer cable too short for for my boat! help please
Thanks very much Mathias. I think this could be a lorry engine, the pump is certainly not a normal tractor one, and it seems to have the front cover of the exhauster (a later type that Ebro introduced on the D lorries in 1968). Unfortunately I can't quite see the casting codes, the head is 23 Januar...

That's in the 1965 parts book in the FFCN (the fourth in the Major section), near the end.

Re: Three point linkage stuck up.
I think the bush is also meant to be a sliding fit, but see what the valve is doing, it's probably binding in the bush. There used to be new control valves around, but I don't know if they are around anymore. You shouldn't need to reposition anything for doing this.

Re: Three point linkage stuck up.
I think the spring is broken, you'll need to remove the front cover to get in to that, when that's off refit the cover without the spring and see how the control valve moves in the bush, as if it feels alright that shouldn't need to come out, if it's binding then the valve and bush will need renewin...

FFCN E27N parts book
I was just having a look at it and it seems the link for part one isn't working as it opens something else. But if you open part two and change the 2 for a 1 in the link you can get part one.

Re: Tractor serial number begin and end with star
Having a bit more information now I can confirm that the block was cast on 9 December 76 and the head on 30 December 76. The engine number 209485 fits for early 77. See what there is under injector no. 4 and what type of injector pump you have, as that will help too.

Re: EBRO TRACTORS
I have to say that many contemporary locomotive engines are very similar in their smoke and dificulty to start, and even some later designs (such as the Paxman Valenta that I posted here https://www.fordsontractorpages.nl/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?p=61431#p61431 ). Lucky that Ford sorted this out so well...

Re: EBRO TRACTORS
Same here with Ebro B lorries, many are like the one I posed earlier unless they've had a later minimec engine fitted later on. The P6 does sound much better than a Major when hunting (both of them), but that might just be because we don't have a P6. Commenting on 2 stroke diesels I find the Deltic ...
