Re: New Performance Super Dexta.
Serial numbers will help, but as Dexta and Super Dexta ran in the same series it's not that easy to tell. The injector pump and injectors are the main difference, but not visible externally, some special strip was glued in the gap between the radiator and the cowling to concentrate the air flow and ...

Re: Check backlash between the crown wheel and pinion
Very interesting details, I'll see what their formulae do for the Major. The dial gauge does allow free choice for the measuring point but not the Ford way. By the way, no depth of mesh adjustment on Major's, so a few odd wear patterns will be around on teeth.

Re: to much sway in link box
Glad it's working. That number is the one Ford had for Dexta's, and there's no reason for them to fit any other tractor as far as I know. Strange size, I would have expected them to be closer to 30 45/64" although I suspect my number isn't accurate as I haven't access to these parts or any manual wi...

Re: to much sway in link box
I don't know what other tractors use, but Dexta bars are E133-WP-9. As I said before, I prefer using adjustable chains to solid bars but that's just me. If someone is lucky enough to have original bars then we might be able to know if the repro stuff is ok or not.

Re: Check backlash between the crown wheel and pinion
You want to have it as close to 0.004" as possible, I don't know what feeler you have, but i would think this check should be made on the inner portion due to lack of access to the outside (Ford say nothing about this, unless it's in something I don't have). Don't know if you've got the axle complet...

Re: Fordson Major E1a 1953 PTO Gaurd
Those bolts are 7/16" UNC, 3/4" long. A run with a tap in the hole is probably worth doing, then the new bolts will fit properly. Don't forget the spring washers.

Re: to much sway in link box
Fairly good stuff there, but there's more to it. I wouldn't consider inner stuff to the top link rocker pivot, it's not suitable nor was it used for that purpose (on that note, some Super Dexta's were fitted with dual category linkage, on them the std check chains are replaced by heavy duty versions...

Re: Can the pump be replaced with another type ? 4596 for 4630
Do you only get the noise with the PTO? If you do have a live clutch there are more bearings that can fail, personally I would make sure no dirt is left in there, and check what you can from the belt pulley hole, then you at least know if it's just PTO parts or involves the main gearbox too. A bad l...

Re: Can the pump be replaced with another type ? 4596 for 4630
It's possible but the P4630/A used on the Ebro 160 is calibrated to a higher setting, 13.8 cc instead of the 13.2 cc for 200 injections. this plus use of lorry type delivery valves (510E-993227 instead of E1ADDN-993227B, Simms 500032 instead of 24499) will alter performance, but not a great issue if...

Re: to much sway in link box
I'm afraid that's how Dexta's are, you can use the stabiliser kit E38-WP-9, although I would replace the bars E133-WP-9 with Major style check chains, that's what Davie has.

Re: Dexta pricing
Don't worry, we all do that kind of thing some times. There's a lot on this subject that would be very handy to know, a monthly list of serial numbers to start with. The only one I know does 62-64, and misses the engine numbers completely, not great when the manuals refer to changes by date.

Re: Super Dexta battery support/hold down.
I've been looking around but struggled to find much, the best ones are ok except that they're low. The original is 12 1/2" long, 6 7/8" wide and 9 31/32" high (not including poles). The closest ones I can find are a fairly good match except for height: 315 mm long 175 mm wide 175 mm high needs 3" sp...

Re: Super Dexta battery support/hold down.
Looks good, but not suitable as an original look alike. The battery you have there is too short and too low, and the front hooks fix into the grooves in the firewall.

The bushes will be tight. I would be concerned if they weren't tight. Your tool sounds good, I would have preferred a press but that's just me. All bushes should require reaming, so the fact some didn't is not a good sign. Hope everything goes ok after all this.

Re: Engine with FL head
I know it's an old post but thought I could add some details. the engine is August 66, looks like its head was replaced. It's an industrial engine, the mounting plate is 591E-6030B, with the brackets added on being 591E-6031C and 591E-6060C, and this was actually made to fit Major's, as these were t...

Looks like they're at it again! Hope you can get some good bushes made, the ID shouldn't fit until they're fitted and reamed correctly.

Re: Solenoid part numbers
Thank you very much, that's just what I wanted! You even have the cover, E1ADDN-14693, a very rare part, but nonetheless important. I see the button was covered with a steel cover, presumably to prevent people using it when the solenoid or starter switch or associated wiring failed. Unfortunately, t...
