That should be fine. See if other similar tractors have such figures too, just to make sure.

Re: Wheel torque settings
Sounds ok to me. Do check that they remain tight, if they don't keep tightening untill they are, as Ford instructed. I saw some Thames Trader data where some were up to 310 lb ft! (using 7/8" UNF)

Re: Wheel torque settings
Ford never specified them, they do insist on tightebning up after use until no movement can be achieved.

Re: County tractors
A bit disappointed with the rather brief bit on the Major's, but that's actually where the real new things appeared. No mention of Bog Crawlers or the Sea Horse, even though I believe the Sea Horse remains the only tractor ever to cross the Channel by itself. Also unfortunate that it misses that the...

Re: PTO problem? Gearbox noise Super major 1963
Excellent. The phasing spacers will need replacing if the phasing you have right now isn't correct. If it is correct then you won't need to replace them them. You'll only know when you check the pump before dismantling (If you test it before you'll know if it's ok or not and also what actually needs...

Re: PTO problem? Gearbox noise Super major 1963
Looks like you've got all internal parts! The one thing I haven't seen is a governor spring (E719-CL-9, marked blue) but I really think you won't need to change much. You will need to check phasing and calibration, so make sure you have access to suitable equipment or a friend who can help you with ...

Re: Fordson Major - Information Please
My first impression is a very big go for it. I's a late 52 or early 53, can't see well enough to say more. ACR is complete although the top link is the wrong way round. The 7.50-16 wheels are better for loader use, the rear wheels look to be 11-38, very rare on early tractors. Drawbar is totally ori...

Re: Super Dexta fuel pump timing advice
Did the gear come off? If not just line up the gear timing mark, then turn the engine onto no. 1 on compression. Keep turning till a spill mark appears in the timing inspection apperture on the bell housing. This is at 26ºBTDC, for pneumatic governors. For minimecs carry on till a second spill mark ...

Re: PTO problem? Gearbox noise Super major 1963
That's a relief. I wouldn't do anything to the engine if it actually does well. Rebuilt engines never run as well as unrebuilt engines, so something to keep in mind. The start you're talking about with the better battery sounds much more like it's meant to be. Billy is about to need a battery too. O...

Re: PTO problem? Gearbox noise Super major 1963
I'm afraid that's actually very poor by Major standards. Major's were well known for not noticing cold well below -20ºC, but yours seems to struggle a bit at a much higher temperature. The battery doesn't seem to be an issue. I'm afraid this points at major issues, for even very worn Major's will st...

Re: Not original starter
I think I can read that they are, don't know if they're any good but lots of folk seem to have them now. Fitting is not difficult but you need a good breakfast, lots of care and a decent pair of tyre levers (a third is even better). Breaking the bead is the hardest job, lots of effort needed, other ...

Re: Not original starter
No Fordson ever had tubeless tyres, so a tube will be needed for each tyre. Make sure it's the right size and valve. Replacement valves are available, but you'll need to vulcanise them on. If you decide you need water in them (if you plan on using heavy implements for example) you'll need a water va...

Re: Timing cover AND other questions. 1952 Gas Major
Yours is too early, that fixing came in from 1266167. You'd have to change the block, which I don't think is worth it. If you can find a suitable friend who has a Major with a tachometer you can get an idea of what revs sound like, then even with the tachometer you don't need to look at it. Tachomet...

Re: Timing cover AND other questions. 1952 Gas Major
Excellent. You'll need to check the real temp, otherwise it's impossible to know. the original thermostat (AC TC3 or equivalent, usually the Smiths version) was set at 176ºF, and the temp was initially set at 170-195ºF, later in 52 it was changed to 180-195ºF. finally, from 1420356 it became 160-190...

Re: Dexta nose badge
I agree that that was the best badge (again, can't say about the industrial version, I suspect it would have been on par with this one at the time) I suspect Ford wanted more badges than J Fray could paint, leading to the change, all the more relevant once the Dexta came on line. I wouldn't say that...

Re: Dexta nose badge
Better pics here. The early type ceased from 1420356, so a few Mk1 Major's had the orange type. Not sure what you mean by colours. If you go for the early type the background is Empire blue (if you do it on a NP better to use NP blue to get it to match), the gear is half E27N blue half white and the...

The colours up to 1957 were these (Billy's badge) https://i.postimg.cc/s2VY8mK6/2025P12-3.jpg from 1957 to 1963 this is what the badge looked like (Davie's badge) (the words SUPER MAJOR were in black on Super Major's, Super Dexta's had an orange background) https://i.postimg.cc/LXd0f84b/DSCF0124-5.j...

Re: PTO problem? Gearbox noise Super major 1963
Can't see it very well, but I can't remember one. Looks like a Brockhouse gearbox, used in several conversions, although I'd never seen one on a Roadless. Looks like a late Power Major.

Tyre valve evolution (water type)
I'm sure many of you will know that there are two types of water tyre valve, one was used when Fordson's were in production, it was later replaced with the current type. Here are pics and the TRA numbers: https://www.agropomoc.com/Prod-49626-tip-top-as-air-water-valve.html TR-218 https://www.agropom...
