Re: Orinal screws/bolts used to secure the bonnet, consuls and steering box side covers.

I think there are some good repro ones that look very good on eBay, otherwise look around scrapy's.

Re: Grill markings

It certainly will be nice, as before the overhaul he sounded very bad (a badly worn big end no. 1) and ended up not running because of that. Play in the spindles was very bad too. When we first got him the diaphragm was gone too, he's now got one that I was told at the time came from a lorry (probab...

Re: Grill markings

Super Billy is (I think) mainly a Super 55, but he has many Ford bits, and he's (hopefully) going to look like a NP Super Major sold by Ebro (with slightly different cosmetic features). We'll get there when we finish the engine and front axle. Report coming as soon as they're done, because I haven't...

Did a bit more today, with the new grinding disc, it's much better than the other one was (and noisier too!). https://i.postimg.cc/RhjtnGFq/DSCF0307.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/3JvmHMSG/DSCF0308.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/T2SgS29G/DSCF0311.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/NjvTsNSz/DSCF0312.jpg Only a few holes t...

Re: Grill markings

I used a modelling knife, just to mark it (no pic of it yet), a friend has the right tool for doing it manually, and as I'm hoping to sign paint our JCB Mr. MacGregor and patches on the badges that are bare; this is a good challenge too (although quite different in many ways). There's also the seria...

Re: Hydraulics issue

You seem to have ordered replacement plugs for auxiliary service valve block. Unfortunately they're for the later block with flow control. Keep the o-rings though, as they might do for other things. Here's the manual, it has a good section on this spool. http://www.smallholderservices.co.uk/sitebuil...

Grill markings

Hi all, Can anyone with a 1955 Major with original grills confirm if both lower supports were stamped EnFo? https://i.postimg.cc/bNc44KTd/DSCF0288.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/Qdjwd1v3/DSCF0289.jpg If not did the other one have something else (a part number perhaps). Re: Hydraulics issue

The pressure relief valve must read 2500 psi, look at the auxiliary spool as John says, there are o-rings there but there's also a lapped bore, when worn, an oversized spool was available from Ford (colour coded).

Re: Hydraulics issue

Inspect the valves for internal leaks, which are not uncommon and set the pressure relief valve to 2500 psi.

Re: Super Major Spool Valve

Nice looking NP Super Major you have there. Simply replace the 1/2" BSP plug with a steel pipe that is a suitable shape and can withstand at least 2500 psi (and fit a suitable coupling at the other end). You'll also need to get a replacement knob for the auxiliary service spool. DAR valves are avail...

Re: Length of Fordson Dexta clutch adjustment rod

You shouldn't need your bit of metal, remove it for the test and be careful. Adjust it to the larger clearance to ensure long life within tolerance.

Re: Super Major Spool Valve

Could you post a pic of the front of the top cover? You could either get the auxiliary service block complete with flow control valve, or a DAR valve, both operating independently of the arms, using the same lever for the former and a separate one for the latter. Connections are 1/2" BSP.

Re: Length of Fordson Dexta clutch adjustment rod

Look at this one, it's a Major, but the single clutch is the same basic design (if someone knows that Dextas were set at different clearances please say so), the main difference being the nine springs. Try it to the clearances here and see if it works ok, if it doesn't remember what you did and adju...

Re: Length of Fordson Dexta clutch adjustment rod

The rod is 31 9/16" from the hole centre in the fixed clevis to the end of the thread for the adjustable clevis. If that is longer than what you have now your clutch needs attention, and you'll need to get it out to sort it.

More patching up. Re: How to change oil pan gaskets?

The 3/8" setting is to avoid the special setting tool getting stuck, measure all the clearances from the PTO disc hub, only adjust what is badly out. If we could get dimensions for the setting blocks and the clearance of the levers from the PTO disc hub you could reset them, but I don't have these, ...

Re: How to change oil pan gaskets?

Try leaving it to start with, but make sure all of them are the same, look at the manual and get the closest measurement from one and get the others to match. Don't do anything hard with your Dexta until it works properly.

Re: Billy's LH mudguard - Repairing corroded tinwork

Billy is a Major (with a much later Ebro engine). Until the Power Major, Ebro simply re-badged Majors, after that they used their own tools (for everything); later Ford sold them theirs (1965). Billy has picked up other Ebro bits, like the side lights.

Re: Billy's LH mudguard - Repairing corroded tinwork

More patching up. Our main problem is getting the weld in the right place, it looks fine until the slag comes off to show that a hole you had was completely missed. We're not going to get the tiniest holes as the paint will cover them anyway (we'll only paint what needs paint, as there's plenty of o...

I was already surprised by the radio for the Major, I knew even less of there being one in the N era. Janus, I think the Major radio will be even rarer here.

Re: Tecalemit oil filter part number

Thanks very much John. I think the heads on the genuine Tecalemit filters (long and short) are the same, the Ebro one is slightly different, but very similar (as is the case with all the Ebro parts, only the accurate machining is the same).
