Re: NP ratio stamping
I'm soon hoping to have suitable equipment to stamp the ratio with, does anyone have a pic please? I don't want to get it wrong but I want to make sure the ratio is clear without needing to run or dismantle anything. Just seen Adrian's pic but really Super Billy should have the later type (Adrian ha...

Re: Jumping out of low drive
It is quite likely. Loose levers are not great, so see if that's the case and if so tighten it up so it moves solidly. Super Billy managed ok with the loose lever but he doesn't have a live clutch so not directly comparable, he's much better now with it nice and tight.

Re: Jumping out of low drive
Sounds unusual, normally it's the main gear lever that jumps out and on much earlier tractors. For now I suggest holding on to the lever as a temporary measure, I can't really think of anything to cause this now but I suspect it's possibly in the lower front of the gearbox. Is the PTO ok? Would also...

Re: FSMajor wheel wobble
If you want genuine spindles then ebay and auctions are the only option. No aftermarket spindkle looks right, so there's good reason to believe the measurements are also wrong. Changing the wheel track setting shouldn't be relevant to the toe in. I would quite like to see a pic anyway (that should s...

Re: FSMajor wheel wobble
At minimum track both Billy and Super Billy measure the same (I think 41 1/4" but I looked at that a while ago) between the centres of the tie rod pins (add 2" as required for your wheel track setting). Check both spindle arms are at the same angle from the wheel, and also see that when the LH spind...

Re: FSMajor wheel wobble
You'll want to use a feeler gauge between the extension and spindle arm. There should be no play in the wheels, so that's what I would check first. The grooves are indeed at 2" in the tie rod ends, but in some cases you have some tolerance to play with in those as well as the tie rod tube, Super Bil...

Re: FSMajor wheel wobble
I would start by checking your play, make sure the wheel bearings are set up properly and that the spindle arms are at 0.025" from the extension (assuming you have rubber seals in there, felt seals used before the Super Major need 0.002") and are in the correct position. Not all tie rods are accurat...

Re: My New Performance Super Major Story.
Burst hoses are always irritating, but often it does work out better to replace doubtful hoses sooner rarther than later. I think all Super Major's have the same hydraulic pump, which is different from earlier pumps. What is different is the gear ratio, as the NP PTO is slower the PTO to pump gear r...

Re: Hi-Lo Lever
I don't know why they changed the knob in 54, they must have thought the one piece casting would be cheaper. Anything post Power Major however must have a separate knob as otherwise the lever won't fit through the dash.

Re: Hi-Lo Lever
The early levers had a large separate knob and were fixed on with a pin. these had a bad habit of getting very loose, so were replaced with the clamp type in around 54, this was the one piece type, which was replaced by a two piece clamp type with the Power Major with a smaller knob. Ebro never used...

Re: Super Major low hydraulic pressure
I suggest tightening up the LH brake for now, here's the brake manual: https://www.fordson.se/6_Framaxel_styrning_bromsar_d%E4ck_Verkstadsmanual_167-190.pdf Know all about brakes misbehaving and it's not fun, the drum brakes are rather better in that sense, as the disk brakes can very easily get int...

Re: Super Major low hydraulic pressure
Glad to see you've got that working and very impressed with your skills on the support bracket. I think it would be nice to have some pics of the brakes so that the very unusual mixture of parts in use is clear. I don't know if you've seen the recent Super Billy news but I'll post pics so you have a...

Re: NP ratio stamping
I haven't got any further on this but I can confirm Super Billy is a slow ratio, as he's a lot slower than Billy. The PTO is not however the same as Ford specified. 540 rpm is at 1599 rpm rather than 1473 rpm, meaning that Ebro had other chenges in there (the PTO gear has 33 teeth instead of 32 and ...

Re: PTO problem? Gearbox noise Super major 1963
Unfortunately it's not as simple as that, E1ADKN-7255 was used till 08C-960337, when it was replaced by E1ADDN-7255, with the previous part no longer available. The new shaft and seal will fit in older castings, but it's not recommended to use the older shaft and seals in the NP box as the new desig...

This points to the metric bearing even more. Try it and see how it feels.

Re: Fordson and Dexta clutch pilot bearing causing shaft damage
I would see if you can get a shrouded bearing, they're much better for this job. Probably is worth measuring the flywheel, but it all points to the metric mearing at the moment.

Re: winter project
Good work, looks like you were unlucky, Super Billy's bush from Agriline was good. Your spindle bushes are better than what we got, better to have too many grooves than none. The new seals are always big and need lots of early attention. Good to see you got that screen, I can't think how many will s...

The manual says the position control spring has 10.7 coils and is 1.96" long under 72 lbs and 1.52" under 152 lbs. I think your new spring will still not work but see if it improves anything or not.

Re: Fordson and Dexta clutch pilot bearing causing shaft damage
I've had a look around and the closest I can find is a 1/2" thick bearing. I'm still a bit unsure about this, I wouldn't expect a 1950's part list to have the sort of mistakes we get now, but the only way to be sure is to measure several flywheels, input shafts and original pilot bearings to see wha...
