Re: Cranckcase and oil splashes
Look at the pipe from the rocker cover to the manifold, as if blocked it won't create the vacuum needed to stop what you're getting (taking the filler cap off should cause an increase in engine speed and covering the hole with your hand you should feel a suction). Probably worth checking bolts too a...

Re: FSMajor wheel wobble
Others have said this before but I can't say for sure, as our spindles seem to all match each other. As for the cast marks I have no idea if they're supposed to identify both sides or something else, there's no reason the same marks couldn't be used for both as the splines are machined later. I'm gl...

Re: FSMajor engine breather (13mm type)
Sounds worrying, Look around on ebay and so on as original ones should still be available and in reasonable condition. I've seen far too many engines missing the breather, allowing dirt to get in. If you're missing it I recommend you plug the hole for now to make the system work like it does on the ...

Re: 2 spool double acting hydraulic valve
If you're lucky and able I recommend a DAR valve, but they're rare and expensive. There's also a DAV, but those are even rarer and more expensive. Probably easier to get a suitable block plumbed in to the external service port and put the return through a modified repro filler cap.

Re: Big news!
The area is pretty flat as there had been a lot of wear from a previous NP that used this badge. Not too sure we have suitable equipment here for such precision but we'll see, with all the cleaning we're doing now it's probably just as well the badge is off as it avoids extra work. Not sure what exa...

Re: Big news!
Quick update, just did a bit of ploughing today (as usual Billy did most of it), unfortunately the badge fell off a few days ago when the only stud holding it on broke, fortunately it's otherwise fine. Any ideas on how to fix that without drilling through are welcome, I'm thinking of some epoxy stuf...

Re: FSMajor wheel wobble
Thanks for keeping at it on here. I would go for a test run before doing the steering box, you might find that you're fine. Also check the drag link, if it's not ok that should make a big difference. Definitely worth comparing new and old spindles, looks like APUKOnline won't be getting a good reput...

Re: FSMajor wheel wobble
I haven't been able to measure anything yet (been cleaning Super Billy yet again!) but I can say right now that apart from the tyres the wheels also make a difference. I assume you have the Power Major type wheels in which case I can't be sure that they will be exactly matching, there is a differenc...

Very different from most, which have 180 degrees slewing. The tilted legs do indeed give a more solid stance, but they will suffer more wear as a result, so something else to keep in mind.

Re: My New Performance Super Major Story.
Very interesting system. I think the first JCB backhoe was actually PTO driven and was lifted by the tractor hydraulics. The subsequent JCB Mk1 couldn't have the same problem as it used a separate double acting ram to replace the tractor hydraulics which were not fitted (neither was the PTO). Very c...

Good point Rob, and given how tight the bolts were that might be an indication of something like that, again pics would be great.

Re: Rare (I think) battery clamp
Thought I would show Super Billy's clamp too, this one actually came with our half Super Major and was modified (somebody cut it and overlapped the middle part making it too narrow to fit even the current batteries, not to mention an original one), I've spent some time trying to return it to more or...

Thought I would show what Super Billy has now, the size is the same as the Varta one but the capacity and maximum current are higher. https://i.postimg.cc/pdJMnP85/DSCF0051.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/htxBcLtr/DSCF0052.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/Bv0G6j8G/DSCF0053.jpg To clamp it properly you need about 5...

Re: More front weight, higher tyre pressure.
Don't know what manual you're looking at, the NP instruction book is on the FFCN and has different information (there's a Super Major one somewhere too with similar information). With pressed wheels the std pressure assumes wheel weights are fitted. To add extra weight to 7.50-16 tyres requires no e...

Re: FSMajor wheel wobble
Sorry for the delay, spent all day cleaning Super Billy, still! (been on it since 2008 almost non stop) Your tie rod is spot on, so for now don't do anything to it. I didn't quite understand what measurement you mean, but here are some pics for comparison with yours: Billy, with EnFo spindle arms, u...

Re: FSMajor wheel wobble
Will get more details later or tomorrow, but I suggest you repeat what you just did with the RH spindle on the LH side. Your tie rod is perfect, so can't be that. See how that goes, I'll be back with the other things soon, wait for returning the spindles please as the LH ones might show the problem....

Re: My New Performance Super Major Story.
Looks good like that, hope you can easily swap between that and normal as you need. Neither are very heavy implements but they will add up to considerable extra weight. Be careful not to overload the loader as there's nothing holding it onto the back.

Re: Fordson super 6 pot
Some casting codes would help, but your engine is an April 64. If it's running well don't do anything major to it. Using a live clutch with a six is not a wise idea, as the cover is weak aluminium (unless you intend on getting the expensive aftermarket type). Don't really understand what you mean ab...

Re: Front tow hitch
True, but it can also mean more work for the same result, especially if you're already in the hang of reversing trailers as it then means you have to change your technique. What you might have seen is the Muir-Hill shunter, but that is a very different kind of use. I still think you'll manage better...

Re: FSMajor wheel wobble
Nice to know, I think Super Billy will be ok but not totally sure. If the spindles are different between suppliers then the Agriline ones should fit, although the other ones look the same. Hopefully this will sort it.

Re: Front tow hitch
Won't it be a bit high on the front? A linkage mounted setup might be better, it also allows you to pick up the trailer and avoid having to retract the foot for a quick manoeuvre. Although we don't have a true setup Billy has handled a trailer like that with suitable success.

Re: FSMajor wheel wobble
All new bushes need reaming to 1.5", but if you can get the correct ones in that would be great. You might be lucky if you look for a second hand spindle, if it's only worn (not on the splines) you should be able to rebuild the missing metal with weld as others have done then machine it down to spec...

Re: FSMajor wheel wobble
You could also try repairing your original spindles, some people seem to have managed well (I suggest you see how close they are to the original 1.499" and with a specified limit of 1.493" minimum acceptable). If there's EnFo on all old parts then they should match as the original ones all do for th...
