Re: Hydraulic control issues
Just a quick update on this one, everything back together and seems to be working exactly as it should be, qualitrol and position control doing exactly as the manual saying it should with a nice smooth lift while raising the control lever, with the flow control adjusting the speed as it should. 3 th...

Re: Hydraulic control issues
Thanks again for your replies. Getting it back together now, haven’t found anything obvious that would cause the erratic action of the lift arms, like you say may just be one of these things I have to get used to. Only thing I did find was I hadn’t previously correctly adjusted the position control ...

Re: Hydraulic control issues
Thanks for your replies. I’m just getting round to looking into this, I took the top cover off yesterday and removed the suction filter. The oil was clean but there was a bit of debris in the filter, not sure if enough to cause the symptoms described earlier. I am going to go through the top cover a...

VIN number help
Does anyone else on here know if the VIN number used by DVLA to register your tractor is some kind of combination of the engine and chassis number? I have lost the V5 (which I only got last year 🙄) and I am trying to arrange a replacement but the DVLA website isn’t accepting the engine or chassis nu...

Re: Hydraulic control issues
Thanks for that. The hydraulics were resealed and cleaned out last year, and plenty oil in it. Looks like I’ll be having to strip the top cover again over the winter…

Hydraulic control issues
Been a while since I’ve been on here but hope someone might point me in the right direction with some issues on my Dextas hydraulics. Symptoms are: When in position control and the control lever is raised slowly, the linkage jumps up quickly a few inches at a time rather than a nice steady lift. I c...

No there’s no wobble or buckle in the wheel, just leaning out at the top.

Re: Good quality replacement parts
Once I’ve got the tractor mobile again (fuel pump is off it and it’s parked tight to a wall) I’ll get it jacked up. The right wheel is slightly taller by about 10-15mm but not enough to make it look like that.

Re: Good quality replacement parts
Unfortunately good original parts becoming harder to find. On a separate note - is there anything other than catastrophic failure of some rear axle components that would cause one of the rear wheels to lean? While I was restoring the tractor I often thought one of the wheels looked ‘squint’, leaning...

Good quality replacement parts
Has anyone got any suggestions for where to get good quality replacement parts? Since I finished the restoration of my 63 new performance Dexta at the end of April the tractor has been kept outside due to lack of storage space, but it has been kept covered most of the time that it is not in use, des...

Re: Cold start button
I got my terminology wrong there, you’re right enough I don’t have a butterfly valve, what I meant was the on off valve you describe. I’m hoping that a squirt of diesel through that tap would serve the same purpose.

Re: Cold start button
I’ve been in touch with the company that supplied the reconditioned pump, they have not heard of this problem before, but think it may be something to do with the return spring on the cold start button as it should reset as soon as it starts, which it is not. The tech I spoke to was hopeful that eve...

Cold start button
I’m really pleased with how my Dexta starts and runs since it’s rebuild, but I’m wondering if there is a problem with the cold start button on the P4588 pump. Like I said it normally starts no problem without any heat or the cold start button, but out of curiosity I’ve tried the cold start button on...

I’ll try to get another gauge on it. Is there any negative consequences from having too much oil pressure in the meantime?

Too much oil pressure?
When I rebuilt the engine on the Dexta, I never checked the oil pressure with a gauge, just checked there was oil to the rockers and the light went out. Every time I would start it I noticed the oil light would go out before the engine had even started and was just cranking, and would not turn back ...

Re: Lengths of Levelling Box and Drop Arm
On this topic, is it normal for the link arms to hit the axle trumpets before the lift arms are at full height? I’ve fitted agrilines levelling box and fixed drop arm, and with the levelling box unscrewed all the way it is almost the same height as the fixed drop arm, but the link arms will be stopp...

Re: Screws on engine block leaking
The seal is brand new like most of the engine, so I am a bit reluctant to be tearing in to the engine so soon.
I think I’ll sort the the pulley like you said, and then get the tractor out and give it a good workout and see what (if any!) leaks there are from there.
Cheers

Re: Screws on engine block leaking
Thanks again Sandy. Ive now noticed a bit of a leak from the front crank seal, I removed the pulley and found it to be a bit worn and scored. I’m going to try a speedi-sleeve on it, but not sure if I should also change out the seal itself as it probably doesn’t even have a full hour running time on ...

Screws on engine block leaking
Can anyone tell me what the flat plate on the side of the right side of the engine block with the 2 screws in it is for? I didn’t pay much attention to it while I had the engine stripped but never noticed whether the screws went all the way through the block, but now one of the screws is leaking oil...

Re: Dexta not charging
Did you ever manage to sort your charging issue? I’m in the exact same position, new wiring loom, new dynamo, new regulator but not charging despite checking wiring over and over, polarising the dynamo several times, testing the dynamo shows it putting out 14.2v at half revs (only 1.5 - 2 volts at i...

Do you use the permatex no2 on its own or smeared onto the gasket?
