Re: Super Major Problems Help
So yesterday I drained the gearbox oil and ran the tractor for about 10 minutes with the clutch depressed and no leaks. Refilled the gearbox and ran for a couple of minutes and was leaking again so at least I have proved it is the gearbox side seal leaking. With the nights drawing in think I will le...

Headlights and Nipples
So I have received a set of new headlights for my 1962 Super Major but having trouble getting them to work. It is positive earth tractor and I have fitted a new wiring loom. If I turn on the headlights at the main switch I confirm I get 12v on the Black/Green(I have 2 headlight wires in the loom(Red...

Re: Super Major Problems Help
Hi all. Many thanks for the advice. I decided to take of the Gearbox Cover Plate from the LH Side to see if I could see the Handbrake mechanism(which you can) and was all OK. But I did find that the top yoke on the cover plate had not engaged one of the flanges on the upper gear shaft. Checked every...

Re: Super Major Problems Help
Hi, ignore the wheels going in different directions when off the ground, this is just how a differential works. When the tractor is on the ground in neutral, can it be pushed forwards or back or does it feel as if the brakes are on? To be honest I have only tried it in gear while on axle stands and...

Re: Super Major Problems Help
Sounds like your handbrake is in trouble, and it's a gearbox out job if it's damaged. Try moving it to the off position (fully forward), never allow any movement unless it is fully off, otherwise it will weld up causing lots of trouble and damage. What colour is the oil? If it's black it's from the...

Super Major Problems Help
So after restoring my 1962 Super Major which was running fine and all gears were working, so I haven't touched anything on the gearbox, transmission and rear axle. When I drained the gearbox and rear axle there was only approx 20-30 litres of oil drained so low oil levels in both when I got the trac...

Re: Super Major Voltage Regulator Testing
The late regulator is sealed, I do remember something on adjusting it but I don't know where. Just connect the voltmeter to terminal A as you say. There are screws beneath the rubber, but I can't say what each one does. Don't adjust them unless you know what they do. Sandy Hi Sandy many thanks. Aft...

On another point. Can someone confirm the process for polarising the generator for a positive earth system. Do you need to flash the field terminal from the positive or negative battery terminal once you disconnect the wires from the generator.

Re: Electrical Problem- 1962 Super Major
Check all wires for insulation defects and insulate well, you should be fine after that. Sandy Thanks Sandy. I was hoping that is all it was and just wanted to make sure I hadn't done something daft, maybe I snagged a wire when installing. Such a shame as it had all been working fine for a few days...

Re: Electrical Problem- 1962 Super Major
A short in the vercinity of the light switch? Or a faulty start-relay (solenoid) drawing too much current and overloading the wire-loom? Too bad about the new loom, hope the Major is working again soon😀 Svend Thanks SvendH. Yes did seem to be in the vicinity of the ignition switch where it flashed. ...

Fordson Super Major Handbrake
Hi I have recently fitted a new handbrake to the Super Major I am restoring as the old one was bent out of recognition. But when refitting the fuel tank last night found that the handbrake fouls on the fuel tank meaning you cannot fully release the handbrake. I am wondering if there is a different t...
