Re: PTO problem? Gearbox noise Super major 1963

Just pulled the drop box off my major on the weekend to replace the seal between the gearbox and rear end. Almost nothing left of the seal, no wonder it was loosing the oil so quick from the gearbox to rear. Reasonably simple job. The only drama I had was the seal I had waited 2 months to get was na...

Re: quick question fuel return line

Oil dilution is a big issue and need to be addressed, the less chance of it leaking is the way I would go, I put alloy washers under my seats on my recent rebuild. Having said that I need to race the rocker cover off and check it all now I've put a few hrs on it just to be sure.

While you're there you might as well do what you can and what you can afford. The last thing you need is to be back again anytime soon

Re: Gearbox refill setups!!

I might be barking up the wrong tree, I was looking to pull the housing off the bottom of the tractor where the PTO selector is located on the side, I was of the opinion this was a common point where the oil made its way from the bottom of the gearbox to the rear axle housing via the PTO shaft. I th...

Re: Small end bushing

I looked into making some sort of jig but after speaking to a few people just decided to calibrate my eye to about ten thou, and let it rip from there. Like I said, it was not a F1 Engine and I figure the way it was running before I got to it, anything I did was going to be a marked improvement. I g...

Re: Small end bushing

Had to replace two rods in my rebuild recently, bought a full rebuild kit and just resigned myself to the fact I wasn't building a F1 Engine and couldn't justify too much more expenditure with sending parts away to be finished like the small end bushes given I live out in the bush and there are no m...

Re: Gearbox refill setups!!

Ordered a new seal to start work on replacing the PTO seal, but they sent me the rear one, not the one for inside the housing where the selectors are, does anyone have the part number for this seal, nothing listed in the manual, any help would be appreciated, Cheers

Re: Gearbox refill setups!!

This is definitely on my to do list. It’s a drama not knowing if the gearbox has oil in it. I can generally tell with the dip stick from the rear case as to how overfull it is. Just need to sort out the parts I need and get set up for it, I have chain blocks and gantry frames on wheels to swing thin...

Gearbox refill setups!!

I know, I know, this is not the right way to go about it, but the tractor I bought had been set up with a valve cock and hose to refill the gearbox each time you used the tractor after the oil from the gearbox drained through to the rear. I do plan on fixing the issue when I work out how and have th...

Re: First Start After Rebuild

That’s an impressive feature for a tractor of that vintage, can’t say I’ve seen anything like that here in the land of OZ. I don’t think we used little tractors to drag big trailers that much down here on the roads like you do through Europe. Our farms were a bit bigger and the tractors don't get us...

Ahh that little screw, didn’t touch it, just a fresh coat of paint over it to seal it up a bit more. Sorry to show my ignorance but what is an exhauster?? Is it like a braking system on the trucks

Re: First Start After Rebuild

Do you mean the plug on the side where we the oil pressure gauge is and the warning switch screw in? There is two ports there under oil pressure, I have that screw out and both a pressure gauge on the side of the engine block and the idiot light on the dash so booth ports are being used.

Re: bolt size brackets headlamp

I was going to say I used 3/4” long bolts, but the two on the ends around the corners could be 1” if you wanted to, the holes are deeper and the side rails are on top of those holes. A couple of the holes on the front go all the way through so the tap will clean them up nice. Those ones could be lon...

Re: First Start After Rebuild

Thanks, the rust was a bit of concern. Got it cleaned up and polished out. The whole rebuild kit was only $1200 AUD, they weren’t interested in the rust on a new crank when I found it?? The old crank wasn’t too bad, i bought the tractor with a big end knock for $750. It had been rebuilt only a few y...

Re: First Start After Rebuild

The little o-ring, we don’t worry about that little fella. It was subject of a previous post. Couldn’t work out where it went, we thought it went under one the tappet posts there. But couldn’t find out??. It was smaller than the one you talk of. It’s in the box of spares

First Start After Rebuild

Started an engine rebuild over a year ago now, had a flood in my shed for 5 months so had to move stuff up mid-rebuild. Struggled to find everything after that but got it going on the weekend. I bought a full rebuild kit here in Australia with the crankshaft. The starter motor wouldn’t turn it over ...

I had a similar issue on the weekend, finally got round to first start after a complete rebuild, new crankshaft, pistons, liners, referb on injectors, pump and head. Couldn’t find any marks on the pump coupling either, but there was two punched marks put there by someone previous to me??, I think I ...

Re: M45g starter bendix clutch plate lubrication

I was thinking that it would be counter productive to have it lubricated when you rely on friction to do the work in the clutch pack. Thanks heaps, you’re right about the oil leak in the bell housing and everywhere else for that matter. Hopefully the total rebuild will address a lot of issues. Cheers

M45g starter bendix clutch plate lubrication

Hi all, just giving the starter the once over for the fresh engine. I figure its going to need all the help it can get to turn a fresh engine over. Anyway, got it all apart and cleaned up, except for the bendix. I have just cleaned it and left it together. It was very greasy and was just wondering w...

Just so I’m clear, I’m not missing anything under the face on the rocker post, it should just be metal to metal for the oil feed for the rocker’s??, thanks in advance. My engine had the mushroom caps that ride up and down with the valve stems, plus there was only one of these seals in the kit?? Lovi...

Rocker post seal??

Just getting to end of a rebuild and found a small rubber seal in the gasket kit that I can’t find a spot for. It is only about 10mm round. The only spot I can think of is possibly under the main rocker assembly post for the valve gear I can’t recall if there should have been some sort of seal under...
