stuck in reverse

So our tractor got stuck in reverse gear. I think the actual gearbox is sound, but the linkage to the gearbox is very worn. The gear stick will spin about and almost come out. I found you can buy replacement gear sticks online complete with housing, but I am struggling to find this part http://i126....

Re: Brakes

When I rebuilt the breaks on my power major, I found the same.
Going forward you can make the wheels lock up, but in reverse .. virtually nothing.
Probably should point out the breaks are probably asbestos.

Re: Wheel weights - what is their function?

They would be useful if you had a loader on the front and needed extra weight. But otherwise I wouldn't bother. I can't imaging taking off a wheel with wheel weights lol.

Re: Going to look at a major

where u put the engine oil in the top, check the colour of the oil in there. If its all white, it's probably leaking water into the engine.

Re: Another oil leak

get a bit of pipework, stick it on the end of the bar to give you some more leverage, can undo anything that way :)
That doesn't look like oil coming out, the oil in the back end normally comes out looking like cream. My guess is .. that's rusty water :p

Re: Service exchange clutches

I've actually helped put a few clutches in other fords, the hard part was really getting the tractor back together. But never done a double clutch. Our other fords just have 1 clutch disc, and the bit which engages the PTO has separate discs somewhere else in the back end. I've read you need a speci...

Service exchange clutches

I saw an advert in one of those antique tractor magazines for service exchange clutches, but sadly I lost it. Thinking of changing out the engine in our power major, but it needs a new (dual) clutch too. Anyone got any contact details for firms that do this ? Or is a dual clutch easy enough to do on...

Re: Power Major Fuel Problems

You could have an air leak on the fuel lift bowl. The seal goes after a while.

http://img861.imageshack.us/img861/6974/unledgc.jpg the drive gear on the arrow. It's only pressed on. You can get a lump hammer or something and hammer it off. You can get at the cir-clip then. That's what we did. The cir clip was a pain in the ass to get out since we had no proper tools, so a bun...

Re: New Major - air bubbles in fuel bowl/PTO question

Agriline sell a replacement one. They also sell a repair kit. The seal on ours went and was leaking a bit, air was getting into the system and the tractor was stalling. Replacing the whole unit fixed it, but I am sure the repair kit would be just as good.

Re: New Major - air bubbles in fuel bowl/PTO question

I had air bubbles on the fuel bowl on our major. I changed out the fuel pump with the glass bowl, problem solved. The seal gets a bit tired after 50 years.

Ford 5600 brakes

The brakes on our 5600, are getting a bit tired. Honestly I wouldn't feel that safe driving it on the road with any kind of load behind me. The tractor has a Q cab on it. I was wondering, how hard is to service the breaks on these? I did the ones on our fordson major, but they were drum brakes, and ...

Re: Pascals gearbox rebuild

The trick to making gaskets is to use a hammer to cut them out. You just put the gasket paper over whatever u want to make a gasket for, then gently tap the edges with a hammer.

Re: hi everyone engine rebuild questions

isn't it possible to find some material to seal the o ring groove ?
Our old tractor has started leaking water into the sump so I either suspect the O ring has gone, or corroded or both. So I might give it a go at rebuilding the whole thing.
