Thanks for the advice guys. Have not got around to any more checks yet. The injector pressures were ,I am told, all over the place with some set too high. It definitely runs better and starts better since injector overhaul.

Thank you for the replies. Would these fuelling issues actually make the engine miss fire and pop etc? I have only ever experienced loss of power and engine dying with other engines. Would this be the nature of the 6.354? Something else I have wondered: would it be possible to have a head gasket blo...

Thanks for the info Brian. Do you mean the gasket between the lift pump body and the block or a gasket between lift pump sections? Another suggestion was weakened valve springs. I am trying to look at the alternatives before pulling to pieces. If it turns out to be a major (no pun intended) fault I ...

Wrong engine make but.....help please

Hi Just wondered if I could tap into the wealth of knowledge on here. Engine Perkins 6.354 (in Hymac excavator) Injectors recently serviced, air cleaner OK, Diesel appears to bleed thro' OK It runs very unevenly on start up, copious amounts of pale blue/white smoke. Smoke clears as put to work and e...

Don't know JC but I have seen it happen. The rings go all soggy and slimy. Same thing happens with certain protective gloves. I think it is in the composition of the "O" ring perhaps, rather than the fuel but I'm no chemist. There certainly is a difference between diesel and kerosene over here. Die...

It would propobly float upside down because the center of gravity must be wery high on a construction like that and rotors to short to make it stable. Possibly. It might be OK - like a catamaran. One would have to do the calculations. I agree about the high CG; was surprising it didn't turn over du...

Brian is absolutely right. 2000 acres of wheat growing land Wallasea Island going under. It is claimed that the managed retreat will aid flood defences. It will allow flood waters to disperse and newly developing saltings will protect remaining sea defences. Land further upstream will have less pres...

Just down the road from me! It looks like the skid has been taken from a Whitlock digger. The wheels, front axle, yellow paint plus lack of 3pt look to give it away. I wonder if it has had a cover over the exhaust?

Brian has covered most of the pitfalls, but can you be fined for operating off road/highway with red? How about all the construction industry? The law has just changed for recreational boats. They are still using red but at road prices for propulsion but can still use rebated for generator and heati...

Brian what type of damage is caused by using the decompressor?

We had an engine fitted with one and used it but I guess we were very lucky to get away with it!

I hardly dare post this but,on the subject of glazed bores, here goes! A cousin of mine works in Africa and was involved with servicing some Deutz engined ADTs. They spend a lot of time ticking over whilst waiting for loading etc. They had a unusual cure for smokey glazed engines. They remove the ai...

It would be interesting to know which torque convertor was fitted.
If it a Brockhouse similar to some of the Major based loading shovels it might be difficult to fix and very power sapping.

Mathias Very interesting. I did not know that Bray made a backhoe. I wonder if it was their own hoe or another manufacturer's grafted on. Weatherill fitted Sherman hoes on some of their models in the late 50s early 60s. Your machine looks a whole lot more modern than those. The cab is remarkably mod...
