Re: Engine Block
In a way, yes the block is the same. It's the rear main bearing cap thats the problem. You can not just swap the Main cap of your old block because the caps are line bored. If it is a lip seal i dont know how you go about it but with a rope seal you can remove metal from the cap so the Dexta oil sum...

Re: topper for dexta
I did use one Ben, A Bomford 2200. and it took it no problem engine wise, but it was on uneven ground and the mower followed every bump and mole hill. was just too harsh on the top linkage . Would probably be ok with a floating top link but i didnt have one, And of course you need a live drive or a ...

Re: SUPER DEXTA GEARBOX SELECTOR PROBLEM
It can happen when the Top Shaft bearing and the Main Shaft spigot bearing get worn out, This allows the top shaft assembly to wobble about.and move , can also jump out of second gear, Jim.

Re: combustion caps leaking
If you still have the Copper rings, throw the gaskets away and refit the rings.
That was what i did, but i have wondered why on fitting new gaskets they leaked. would fitting two gaskets make a better seal.

Re: differential
How fast will it go fella ??. In 6th flat out my standard Dexta just touches 16mph according to my Sat Nav. i thought that was pretty fast for an older tractor. maybe yours needs a slight adjustment, as to the Diff , i dont know. Jim.

Re: First Tractor Petrol Dexta
What i do when using a topper (slasher) instead of using the top link, park the tractor and topper on level ground and conect with a strong piece of chain , and let it sag a little . That way the topper rides the contours but can still be lifted on the Hyd arms. (with the select lever in position co...

Re: Gearbox part question
Thanks fellas. As it happend i went to my local CHN and they got to washers (called thrust washers) there are two and are brass coloured and made to fit on the splines, i reckon they were left out in a former box repair. with a few more bits it s all back and fine , nice and quiet, does'nt jump out ...

Re: Back to the drawing board....
Ben, Nothing supports the alternator at the back, Thats how it is, Infact it can be Left or Right fitting, and i think it is like the ones fitted to some Vauxhalls. and guess what i used for an adjuster bracket, well you never would, lol was the slotted side of a spare qudrant lever . As it happens ...

Re: Crankshaft Rope Seal
Yes, if you can turn it by hand it would be quite ok, thats provided the crank turned freely by hand before you fitted the seal. Allways best aswell to give the ropes a little soak in oil . Jim.

I reckon with all the stuff like panels out there, is at least go see what your buying, may have to travel a ways but at least you can see if its what you want or not. I bought a pair for my Dexta in 2010 from a trade seller at Patrick Edwards sale that April. Ive seen a lot and these were the best ...

Re: Metal noise
If the radiator is frozen it doesn't melt spesially because the fan will keep the radiator cold and therefor the coolant wont begin sirkulate, and then the coolant in the engine can boil and create high pressure and blow head gasket with the radiator still frozen  :curse: :scratchhead: Been th...

Re: Metal noise
If as you say "aloud noise" from the engine, i would be more worried about it been a Big End gone, i sure would not run that engine reguardless of how much i needed to. A rod through the side would be likley, and even more damage to the crank. Jim.

Re: Engine oil queries
You may well be right there Brian, allthough i would think that if the oil that i pointed out was good enough to spin a turbocharger in a diesel engine at 10.000 RPM it would be more than good enough in a Dexta at 1,500 RPM. Ofcourse, the fellas query was about a Dexta application, But i suppose if ...

Quite an easy choice really. An item like this on Ebay 300657136742 You will need about 37 lts. dont know how you can get to that figure exactly but if you went for 35ltr you wont be far out. if you can get it cheaper thats good, but that stuff will do the trick

Hi there all. would anyone know this, bad noise and clonk in my Standard 1960 Dexta, which after removing the gearbox from the back axle, and from the clutch housing, ( leaving the clutch housing still joined to the engine, ) i find a badly worn main shaft, with the end allmost down to 10mm, and the...
