Re: Hyacinth digging potatoes
Good stuff, hopèfully Daisy can join in another day! How's the Super? Sandy Unfortunately nothing new to report on the Super or Daisy. The springs for the starter springs just came in the mail yesterday so hopefully I'll at least get that done. Snow and cold temps have kept me busy. Rushed around y...

Re: Next move for our 1954 Fordson Major Diesel
Back to that stuck steering spindle, I never got more movement in either direction after rigging up the long pipe. I will try to get a picture of the furthest points left and right. Those take a lot of effort with the pipe. Wondering what next step might be? Guessing somehow removing and replacing a...

Re: Our new 4/62 Super Major
As you can see it was rusty. The band around the brushes had corroded enough that moisture had gotten in. The brushes would not move in either direction. We have them moving good now. Found springs on ebay. Hopefully the starter will be okay. I suppose I could see if it spins with one missing brush ...

Re: Our new 4/62 Super Major
I guess we will see about brakes once we know she runs. Rain, snow, short days, and work have kept us from accomplishing much.
Got the starter for the Super cleaned up but have to order new brush springs.

Re: Next move for our 1954 Fordson Major Diesel
Now that I've got the air cleaners side by side and somewhat clean the difference is apparent. Thinking I may be able to salvage Daisy's. Maybe use a steel can if I can find the right size. If I get diameter and height correct we may be ok? I'll study how it should mate up with element using Hyacint...

Re: Our new 4/62 Super Major
Thanks for your description of things on the Super. I took the bonnet off today for a better look. Alot of rust has fallen from the bonnet, which is in poor shape. Now I see the difference in the air cleaner and the breather pipe. Power steering has oil in it. Looks red like atf, but I think we have...

https://i.postimg.cc/FsXPgmhV/IMG-20241201-111639.jpg gif hosting Here is another one, let me know if you want a different angle. I'll try a bigger puller. Hyacinth's radiator had a lot of leaks. That 5 fins per inch difference is noticeable in the weight difference. Hoping Daisy's radiator is leak...

Re: Next move for our 1954 Fordson Major Diesel
I'll get a better picture of the air filter bottoms. The Supers was filled with fuel as I try to clean it. Curious what the difference is between the two bottoms are? The measurements were all the same. Would I be able to take the complete air cleaner off the Super and put it on Daisy? Unfortunately...

Re: Hyacinth finally has (somewhat) matching front tires.
Hi Leeroy, I had fun with a siezed spindle and this worked for me.Take the arm off the top and jack the wheel off the ground but leave it attached, spray penetrating oil on the top and strap a long metal pole to the side of the wheel with a ratchet strap so it sticks out the front. Use the pole to ...

Thanks John! Sounds promising.Im wondering if it took a hard hit on that side, as the left side moves fine. I will be trying this later today or tomorrow!

Re: Hyacinth finally has (somewhat) matching front tires.
Great for the Super! How's that spindle doing? Hopefully the diesel will shift the rust, if the grease nipple is still there you could try to get it to grease then try to grease the spindle. You'll need grease there anyway so worth doing. Sandy Glad you asked, been meaning to post more. It won't ta...

Re: Hyacinth finally has (somewhat) matching front tires.
Front axle bolts are correct on one side of Daisy, but not other side. Bothe sides are correctly positioned on the Super. "Nora" or"Rose" are two names we have come up with.

Re: Hyacinth finally has (somewhat) matching front tires.
Good eye to see the bolts on the extension are not correct. Good rainy day project. Yes on the 7.50x16. Not sure if I posted it but somehow Daisy's front tires were swapped with the front tires on the IH 504 that we also bought. They were parked nearby to each other. My son noticed the two capscrews...

Hyacinth finally has (somewhat) matching front tires.
I've got some work on Daisy's spindle so "borrowed" her front wheel to replace the awful dual wheel that was on Hyacinth. I cannot believe how much better she steers and fits in the barn! https://i.postimg.cc/j5VGr75P/PART-1732791613071-IMG-20241125-155548.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/XNsQf5bL/PART-1732...

Re: Next move for our 1954 Fordson Major Diesel
Daisy started!! I'd say she runs pretty decent for how long she's been parked. I took the starter apart and the armature had light rust in spots. Sandy this was before I read your post, hopefully using a wire brush on an angle grinder was not to harsh. It seemed to fix the slow tickover. Luckily I d...

Re: Next move for our 1954 Fordson Major Diesel

I took the starter off the Super, but in barely spins when connected directly to battery. The band around the brushes was badly rusted and the br...

Re: Next move for our 1954 Fordson Major Diesel
Ok thanks for the picture. Looks a bit different than the one in my repair manual. I'll post a picture. Can we use 24volts from a jump pack directly to starter or is that a terrible idea? Our jumper cables are also suspect. Daisy is a bit boxed in with the remains of her loader. I may move that toda...

Re: Next move for our 1954 Fordson Major Diesel
Thanks @John b I'm wondering if seeing the injector pump with cover off does not show me what you said. In other words I thought the plungers were moving correctly but they may not be making full travel? I wish we could try pulling it but we have one blown rear tire and the front right steering spin...

Re: Next move for our 1954 Fordson Major Diesel
Thanks for the pictures and explanations. Work and rain today, so not sure if I'll be with Daisy today. I hadn't taken the air intake hose off because the clamps are seized and the hose is not torn or collapsed. It has a solid feeling not pliable at all, maybe this is an issue. I will remove it and ...

Re: Next move for our 1954 Fordson Major Diesel
We gave it a try but no luck. Extra fuel engaged 1/2 throttle. Little if any smoke..Bled nicely up to pump, then cracked lines at injectors.Had fuel except to #1 cylinder. When I tried loosening that fitting it was spinning at the injector. Ended up taking rocker cover off and tightening that piece ...
