Re: Dexta not charging
I think what I will do, is try it positive earth at the weekend, but I still don't reckon it will work. Its almost as though when I have polarised it, when I connect the wires back up its being polarised again but not the way I want it. I think if I make it positive earth, it will do the same, which...

Re: Dexta not charging
Yes I know they are from factory, however my major is negative earth. I thought you could kind of convert them to work on negative earth, is this not the case with a dexta?

Re: Dexta not charging
Ok, so I went over all wiring connections today, and they are all good, and in the correct place. I started the engine and tested voltage on the 'f' and 'd' terminals at the regulator, and there was none when i measured to earth (negative), but when i measured to positive it had voltage, so it was p...

Re: Dexta not charging
I will check all connections tomorrow but I have already checked them twice! Its worth saying that it didnt blow the 15 amp fuse until i took the regulator cover off and accidentaly made the contacts touch. As it only charges at 11 amps, surely a 15 amp fuse if sufficient? Regarding the earth, it ha...

Re: Dexta not charging
Yep dynamo is polarised and generating voltage correctly. I have revved it up and it makes no difference, connections are all tight and all the other wiring, like lights etc work well. It is just the whole blown fuse thing, it was a dead short because it 'popped' and flashed, but I'm not sure whethe...

Dexta not charging
Hi everyone, I can't find a topic on this exact issue, but basicly, I am nearing completion on my dexta project which is a full re-build (been going on for a while). It has, a brand new dynamo, wiring loom and lucas voltage regulator, but is not charging the battery. I have checked the dynamo, and i...

Hi Mervyn,
Yes the handbrake lever is on the left as you sit in the seat, I had adjusted that short linkage as much as it will go, so I made a short spacer to enable more thread to be available and it works a treat now!

Re: handbrake advice
No my handbrake is mounted the other side and at first looks identical to the more common type, however the mechanism inside and the pawl itself are completely different. I have actually had to make parts to fit and adapt the repair kit that agriline sells to make it work. I have pictures of how it ...

Handbrake adjustment
Hi everyone, as I posted a couple weeks ago, I have a very unusual original handbrake mechanism on my dexta. Anyway I have now made the bits that were missing and got it working on the ratchet as it should do. However it locks the nearside wheel up no problem but the other wheel is still allowed to ...

Hi all. Having not posted many photos of my dexta restoration lately I just logged into photobucket and am I correct in saying I wont be able to upload any photos without paying photobucket for the privilege?

Re: handbrake advice
I have just found this post. It sounds like I have the same handbrake mechanism as 'botchit'. I will try and get a couple of pictures up of what I have. Trouble is I have never seen another one like it and I am missing the pawl piece completely. I have the bit which bolts to the wing though. Has any...

Re: Engine rebuild.
Hi Mervyn,
Are you sure the liner is worn that much? Could it be carbon build up instead? If you have some emery paper, give it a clean up, you never know you may be lucky!

Re: Lower Link Mounting Pin
I had a loose lower link pin on my dexta, which meant that oil from the backend was weeping out. Whilst I had the PTO shaft out to replace the leaking PTO seal, I looked in the backend and could see the nut from the link arm pin, so I was able to tighten it up without taking the axle trumpet off. Ca...

There is an early straight petrol major on ebay at the moment - looks like a nice original one. I have to admit I am tempted but its priced quite high - £5250.00.

Re: Removing the front crank pulley
My 54 major's front crank pulley had come apart - the rivets had mostly let go, so I replaced them with hi-tensile nuts and bolts. You have to undo the crank nut by giving it a sharp tap or two with a drift. I managed to get the pulley off and back on again with removing the tombstone but it was ver...

Just thought I would post to say I finally got the hydraulic top back on yesterday...............and it now all works perfectly. The arms haven't dropped at all in 24 hours either which is ideal! Onto the front axle refurbishment now lol

Re: Gearbox clatter at idle
Thank you for the replies! There is no belt pulley fitted I am afraid, so there must be something a-miss inside somewhere. The noise is definetly coming from the front of the bellhousing/gearbox, I did also wonder whether there is something up with the clutch or flywheel, but having said that the oi...

Gearbox clatter at idle
Does anyone elses tractor's gearbox clatter when idling? If I throttle the engine up and down slightly from idle there is a fairly loud clunking noise which sounds like its coming from the front of the gearbox, almost at the rear of the bellhousing. It has always done this, but I am worried there is...

Re: FMD injector problems
Have you tried slackening the pinchbolt next to the fuel pump and moving the coupling backwards and forwards to see if the smoke etc improves a bit?
Those timing marks on your flywheel look as though the flywheel is really rusty, are there any numbers visible on it?

Hi Mervyn,
Thanks for the reply, for a second I thought I was writing in invisible ink
I will have a look online and order it up, thanks for the offer of the Dvd, but ideally I need to have it back together in the next few days.

Re: Position control linkage adjustment
Ok, so I have now found the adjustment page in the manual (missed reading that the first time) I have set all the linkages up as per manual, but I had to guess the position of the lift arms as I haven't got the tool to fix them in place.
Anyone else done this?

Position control linkage adjustment
Having now re-assembled the hydraulic top and linkages etc, I have a question. I followed the manual (the free download one) and I am not sure how much the spring needs to be compressed on the position control arm? The reason I am asking is, when the lift arms are in the lowest position, the linkage...

Yep that's the bits! I can make a new pin on the lathe for the locking plate, I was just curious what it does, I assume it stops the plunger assembly moving about?

Dexta Hydraulics locking plate query
Hi, I have almost finished re-building the hydraulic lift on my dexta. All the linkages are assembled (following the manual) and I got to putting the top link spring, yoke etc in place. The locking plate (three bolts) that bolts to the lift is supposed to have a pin that locks the linkage inside in ...
