Re: new member - super major or power major
Hi, you seem to be getting dates/model sorted, no raised PTO though and your extra service valve is a single acting valve not double acting as pat has suggested. I would suggest the nose was updated to a super front to give clearance for loader frames (if they still were side mounted as pre super"s ...

Re: what oil should i use in gearbox and rear axle
hi skidz. without knowing any extreme temperatures involved any 20/30 universal tractor oil will do the job, a straight 20/30 sae is the specified oil but a UTO will be a lot easier to find. Mark

hiya skidz,
Look at posting from brian about oil spec's. ford changed requirements for majors from 90w gear oil to 30w engine oil so your choice.
Brian is the wizard so ignore his word at you peril. cheers. mark

Re: Front Seal help
hiya witty, sorry to be bear of bad news but yes, the front plate has a gasket between it and the block to seal oil in. you need good sealant that does not "go off" to fast as the outer timing cover bolts also hold the plate to block. keep onwith it, you will get there. cheers. Mark

Re: Raised PTO Shaft removal
hi whirly,
Yes you understand, when you unbolt the raised unit you can see the bearing holder shown in your picture , use a bar either side of outer gear and spacers between main housing and bars to give leverage to get bearing holder and entire shaft to slide out.
Cheers

Re: Raised PTO Shaft removal
hi whirly the raised pto shaft brg is in a housing which is "supposedly" an easily removed slide BUT rust etc can make it harder to slide back. you should be able to easily pry it back with care between the main housing and the gear on the shaft with use of appropriate spacers. it is NOT a press fit...

hiya all. egg works BUT only use the white. the yolk mucks up the effect. pepper washes out with no residue so to me is awesome.

Re: NM Radiator removal
Hi all, if you need a good quick tempory fix then tip a tin (small) of GROUND pepper into radiator, it will get carried around with water and will stick in crack and swell to seal leak. works well unless leak is massive.

Re: Raised PTO Questions
hi whirly. the raised unit allows hydraulics to continue while engaging/disengaging PTO. ie. post hole borer on and you can engage/disengage borer irrevalent? of hydraulic availability. on modern tractors (hush my mouth) hydraulics are independent of PTO whilst on old girls they are intergrated. the...

hi, I am guessing that the "B" will have the relief valve hole while the "A" will not.
Maybe you will be able to have this verified by others shortly.

Re: Power Major Tractor seat
hi Pat,
There should be a steel flat strap welded accross the front of the side rails (approx 20mm x 3mm) and the sprind clip hooks on that which keeps the seat down.
Hope this helps, i cant get a photo to show you

Hiya County,
ACR is auto clutch release (all working including top arm). was popular for ploughing etc so when you hit something hard the clutch was engeged thus preventing breakages. dont use it but it is there. lol
cheers

Hiya county,
sounds like you scored well.
enjoy the drive home and your purchase.
Forgot to mention probably other major change was headlights went into grill for supers. lol
What is on it? my 1958 power has ACR, power steer and raised PTO, sorting out trans/diff oil transfer problem now.

Re: Difference between Major Diesel, Power Major and Super M
hiya county, basicly supers had upgraded hydraulics, disc brakes and also diff lock. power major had (mostly) live drive, the dash moved to top of fuel tank and had tacho. in all series/years upgrades were implimented so every year things were improved by slight changes. these are basicly the major ...

Re: waterpump repair
Hiya dan,
You need a good press or at very least a good puller and very good vice to do a good job(any other not worth doing)
sounds like it might be alot easier for you to get a whole pump.
Cheers
Mark. keep on tractoring
