Re: Done anything to the Dexta this week then ?

Excellent engines, no bore wear and head in good shape now, just rusty valves due to water getting in and sitting

Oil feed to dexta head

Put the head back on the dexta and there doesn't seem to be enough oil pressure to oil the valves, got oil running down the groove in the rocker to the push rod end but not to the valves when it's ticking over. got a little when revving but not enough. I have oil pumping when the pipe is off, the oi...

Re: Done anything to the Dexta this week then ?

Well, Dexta head is a write off, badly rusted seats and a crack from No 3 inlet seat which continues into the casting. Managed to take the head off spare (new performance) engine and that was ok, lapped the valves in and she's now sitting on top of the Dexta waiting for injector pipes, oil pipe and ...

Re: Front pulley on Dexta

Thank you.
I'll undo it before the engine comes off, although I don't think the seal is leaking but my brother wants a new seal while we are doing the engine, looking for an external oil pipe now (to the head)

Well she started, still well below freezing but she started  ran for a few minutes then stopped as the diesel had gelled up with the cold. Blew the pipes out with an air line, bled her and she ran again and kept going this time :D So today the dear Dexta has just had a short run and then she wa...

Hi landowner... Today, I did the reverse, and towed the dexta with my land rover...more out of curiosity rather than needing too, although the battery was flat and it was easier to tow than to carry the rather heavy battery back to the shed..!! My series 1 80 inch did quite well..... ...

I've just fitted a new radiator, should it be painted? I've never had a problem with ordinary paint on a radiator . Paint will burn off the exhaust manifold but nowhere else I've found. If you want paint to stay on the exhaust manifold then use emulsion paint, the drips of emulsion from when I pain...

Great little engines aren't they , once done it'll probably last forever now. we were lucky in that both the Dextas have real good engines so we can concentrate on the other worn out bits

Done anything to the Dexta this week then ?

Well yes actually.
Took the other half shaft out and that's about it.

My brother did buy another dexta though, '62 I think, super dexta with orange wheels, running fine on a newish engine with no faults - just have to lean on the gate and look at it :D

Rear bearings, shims required and studs

Any help appreciated on this,

Need some shims for the Dexta rear bearings as the old ones broke up on removal.
Also need hub retaining studs as a few of them are useless.

I believe there should be only 6 stud holes and the four weight holes should be square. Also there are 16" dia wheels and 19" wheels, which tend to be on earlier Dextas  Thanks for that, ours are 16 inch wheels and have 12 holes around the bit where the studs fit through, six for the studs an...
