Re: Crank dimensions
That is with new bearing shells. It does look a little wore, but it doesn't have a ridge in the center. I didn't have any crank dimensions and without the ridge i didn't think it was very worn. I will be able to look it over and measure it better when I get it completely apart.

Re: Crank dimensions
Thanks for the info. I now know why I have about 5 psi of oil pressure. i'm getting about .005" per side with plastigage. Looks like i'll be splitting the tractor and getting the crank ground.

Crank dimensions
After struggling with low oil pressure it's time to pull the crank and have it ground.
Does any one have the dimensions and tolerances for the the crank they can share?
I've done a couple searches with no luck.
Thanks!
Tom

Re: FMD Glycol leak
I had that very same issue. I figured it was a crack in the casting inside the engine. I repaired it by draining the coolant and drilling the hole out to .516". I can't remember the dimensions of the holes I drilled through the brass, but you can measure the rod that goes through the block to get th...

Re: Major progress!
I was reading some posts about oil pressure and saw some references to the oil gallery. I did't add oil to the gallery during assembly. Last night I pulled off my pressure gage and the tube was oily but not full. (I have a 6" nipple with a 90 on the end that I atached aliguid filled pressure gage to...

Re: Major progress!
Are the shells the bearings? If so, then yes. All new main bearings and rod bearings.

Re: Major progress!
I would guess at least 50 cans of paint and primer. I plan on using it to mow my pasture and keep my small winter pen clean.
I'd loike to go to a show or two and some local farmers do a 30 mile country tour once a year. That is going to be a must!

Re: Major progress!
Regretfully I didn't take pictures of the rebuild. Thanks for the info on the cold start and the ticking from the pump. It sound like their working as they should. I searched the forum and found a couple references saying the majors tend to have lower oil pressure. As for my oil pressure, should I b...

Re: Major progress!
Thanks for the compliment. I don't have heat in my barn, so I brought inividual pieces into where i work and painted them with aeresol cans. I wish I would have saved all the cans, It would have been an imressive pile. I'll try and eplain the shutoff better. On the end of the pump (driver side) is t...

Major progress!
I finaly have my '54 major running. I purchased it 9 months ago, in very rough shape. seized engine, split sleeves, cracked oil pan, locked up pressure pump, bad injectors, the list seemed endless and is still quite long. I want to thank every one who asks questions and shares their knowledge, Alot ...

I am getting ready to put my engine together, and would like to check the pump. I am getting .020" inch between the teeth. Will that work? Is their anything else I should check?
Thank you!

Yes Brian, That's the one. In your earlier reply you said to "hoik" it out. That will be the plan tonight. I will have to make some sort of "Hoiking Hook". I will probaly order 2 of those seals, in case I mess one up. If everything goes well maybe I will shove that one in also. Looks like there is p...

Replacing transmission seals.
My major has a live PTO and both seals need replacing. The large one aound the large spline is easy enough but the little one between the transmission shaft and the pto shaft (E1ADKN-7052-A) is another story. From what I can see in my parts diagram the whole housing needs to come out. Am I thinking ...

Well, I got had my injectors checked out! 3 are junk, 1 is questionable. They also told me that since the injectors are this bad the pump is probably the same. $85 apiece to have rebuilt, that really hurts. I guess I dont really have a choice and the up side is I will know they will be perfect! I th...

Thank you for the response Brian. I havn't begun to tackle the pump yet! How much pressure does the pump produce? Would hooking the injector to a compressed air valve and regulating the air pressure to match the pump pressure work? That would tell me if they are working at least. Unless the pump pre...

Diesel injectors?
I am to the point of my rebuild where I can install the injectors. Is there a way I can check the injectors to see if they are working correctly? Also, do the 2 bolts have to be brought to a specific torque or just tightened? Any help or suggestions are much appreciated.
Thank you!

It is a 2 piece with the split being offset 1/8" off center in either direction (if that makes since) with a dowel pressed into one half. I'm going to have it rockwell tested tommorow. I was on Timkens site, they were describing some thrust bearings they sell with a hardness of 60 to 61 Rc. and made...

Thrust bearing question.
Well I pulled my engine, pulled the cam shaft and the 2 piece thrust washer turned out to be a 5 pc. I couldn't find a part number in my manuals. I am a machinist by trade and can make one easy enough. My question is, what type of material and what hardness to bring it to? Has any one made one or ha...

Thanks for the info pat! They seem pretty good. I will just leave them in the block and clean the block out the best I can with some sort of cleaner. Their is a 2 piece thrust type bearing on the cam and one half is busted into 3 pieces. I can make a new one easy enough. Can you recomend a type of s...

Does any one know where I can get a set of cam bushings in the states? I would like to get my block "hot tanked" but need to replace the bushings if I do.
