Re: Chuffing air filter

My memory is not real good but isn't there a line on the air filter bowl that shows where the oil level should be?
If the oil level is correct My first guess would be a tight, sticking, or burnt intake valve. You might want to check your valve clearances.

Re: Noisy Aftermarket Exhausts

No, as a matter of fact I had the opposite problem with my Dexta. The muffler sounded like it blowing through a hose so I took a long bar and punched a hole down through the center of the baffle end piece to get rid of the hissing sound. Tractor sounds much happier without the back pressure and is s...

Re: Dexta Wheel Colours

You guys are on the ball :D It is in fact an engine coolant heater. When it is below 32 degrees F. (0 degrees C.) It is a good idea to preheat the engine. It can get below -30 F. (-34.5 C.) here which makes it hard to start any diesel. Plug the heater in for an hour and the engine is toasty warm and...

Thanks for the compliment. The color in the photo is actually a very light shade of grey with the darker Ford Blue.

Re: Oil spraying everywhere....

The spin on filter adapter looks to be an excellent investment. The next time I need an oil change I think that's the route I'm going.
Thanks for the suggestion

Re: Dexta Wheel Colours

Mine is a 61 and originally was Empire blue with the dull grey wheels. I was never fond of the color scheme and have always like the Ford 2000. So as you can see in the following photo I have chosen to go that route. Hope to have the rest of the parts installed in the next couple of days. I have a b...

Re: Dexta Wheel Colours

My Nephew was here visiting Sunday and we were talking Dextas as my freshly painted one was setting in the yard. Turns out he has one that he acquired from his father in-law in Windsor Canada. It's a gas Dexta ( unusual) and as I recall the wheels on his are the same color as mine were. He is not ce...

In the U.S. it appears the original wheel colors were a Light Grey with a slight brownish tint for a lack of better description.

Those flat head V-8's sound sooooo nice too. Looks like the guy did a very nice job on the conversion.
I'd still rather have the diesel

Re: ol'Blue and the Kids.....

The only time my 850 steers comfortably is when there is an 800 lb. brush hog hanging on the 3 point. My steering box on that is in need of a good rebuild and the loader doesn't help either.

Re: ol'Blue and the Kids.....

Nice looking tractor. I'm presently repainting my 61 Dexta with the same paint scheme as I think it looks better than original. If your steering is the same as mine, and your steering is getting stiff you need to remove your steering wheel and pour some grease down the steering tube. It explains thi...

Re: Dexta owner / worker newbie

I've run tractors off and on for the last 40 years. Last spring I purchased a Dexta and fell in love with it. Wonderful tractor that I couldn't possibly think of selling. Every time I start it I smile :D . I think it would be well worth your effort to fix your's up and keep it. I just tore mine apar...

Re: New to your Forum

Interesting information. I do not have a loader on my Dexta but I do on the Ford 850 and would like to put power steering on it. Will have to check Flea-bay and see if there is a kit there for it.
Thanks again.

Thanks for posting your results. You bring up an interesting option about the fuel. I have not heard of using ATF as an additive.

what really puzzles me though is what pocesses people just to simply park those tractors out under the heavens to rot away Some people just have no appreciation for mechanical things. Could be the owner passed away and the family had no interest in it. Could be a multitude of reasons. Thankfu...

Re: New to your Forum

Hi Bill: I know it was a lot of work but you couldn't have picked a better tractor as far as I'm concerned. In the last forty years I've operated a lot of different tractors and after having purchased a Dexta last year I'm wishing I had known about them years ago. I sure like mine and consider it my...

A 6ft. topper takes a lot of power. If you cut it earlier next time it will go a lot faster.

Randy that is the way mine is wired. Positive ground and negative to the starter. I have to be careful every time I hook a meter or charger up to it.

Good information Ben. In one of the links they talk about oil pressure gauges and I happen to agree with their installation. Mine is running over 60lbs and uses no oil with the Shell Rotella 15-40 .

Re: Dexta oil consumption

I would definitely consider going to a heavier grade of oil. Straight 20w oil is going to be very thin at normal operating temperatures. Most diesels in the U.S. that I know about run 15-40 year around. I'm presently running that and have had to add no oil since the last oil change. :)
