Thanks for your reply. Looks like the hand clutch had to be held in the release position, appears to be a lever and rod set up in place of the foot clutch.

Hand Clutch

Were any Fordson County Crawlers (Power Major Vintage) fitted with a hand operated clutch. Looking at certain videos and photos It would appear that some of these machines may have been fitted with a hand clutch. They may have been fitted as an extra. Any information regarding this would be greatly ...

I have an original sales brochure, I'll try and photo copy the seat for you, from memory they had an excellent seat for a tractor of that era.

Re: Raised PTO Questions

Can't understand why anyone who purchased a Fordson new did not order the raised PTO, they were almost essential , to couple the pto to a baler or header or most other trailed pto machines.

Re: 40lbs oil pressure but none at rockers

Try disconnecting the oil gauge line at the block and using a suitable fitting attach an air line and pressurise the system , keeping the air pressure below the max oil pressure , see if air is coming through at the rocker inlet (rocker shaft removed) . Would also try this in reverse by pressurising...

Check the oil pressure gauge as suggested. If it checks out OK I'd take a look at the main bearings and the oil pump.

Re: Engine oil

Finding 90 transmission oil suitable for a Fordson seems almost impossible these days, will try phoning Valvoline on Monday re TRA 90. Have been using Gulf Western Torque 50, but feel it is on the light side, especially when used in an older machine. Used SAE 90 in a Power Major for 40 years. Differ...

Re: E27N gearbox/diff seal change

It is common for the E27N and later models Major, PM &SM to leak oil from the diff to the GB. I believe most of this occurs through the PTO shaft seal and maybe fixed without splitting the tractor, only the PTO shaft and the PTO gearbox may have to be removed. I think the set up is similar to the la...

Re: E27N Major 1950

The engine should rev up when the throttle is pulled back, providing the governor is assembled correctly and the throttle linkage is connected right. Sounds like the governor is holding the throttle valve closed , had this happen on a 6HP petrol engine once, a spring or a rod was connected up wrong(...

Also resulted in the engine having to be removed ...
