Re: No hydraulics
Hi Tim, I've been reading your post with interest as I am also faced with the same decision. We have had a Dexta with no hydraulics in the corner of a shed for a number of years now. It was recovered from a hedge and needed a bit of work to get it going again. With having a bit of spare time recentl...

Re: Dash panel clips
Here is a photo of the clips. They don't even seem to be listed in the Fordson parts book. http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x367/mcglasson1/Fordson%20NPSM/DSC01767.jpg http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x367/mcglasson1/Fordson%20NPSM/DSC01771.jpg I'll keep search and post if I find somewhere tha...

Dash panel clips
My super major arrived without a dash on top of the diesel tank. I now have a dash panel but I am missing the three clips for the screws to go through. These are the clips which fit over the flange at the top of the steering column. I have searched endless lists of U-nuts and spire clips and can't f...

Re: 1963 New Performance Super Major rebuild
Nice work. How did you get over the broken pto idler gear housing? Finding replacements is very difficult. Any more photos to come? Thanks. The broken bits and the gear were missing. I ended up getting a complete replacement housing from a breaker, I think it was Pocock if I remember rightly...

1963 New Performance Super Major rebuild
The story so far in the rebuild of my New Performance Super Major It has had a replacement engine in its past and its new engine number starts with an S so it can't be dated from that. The rest of the cast codes lead to it being from around August 1963. Work to date... Replaced PTO transfer casting....

Re: Bottom radiator hose
Yeah, they are solid hardwood blocks. Its very stable on them.
I supported it like that to make it easier to paint underneath.
I've got a few photos of the rebuilt up to now so I'll start a new topic and add to it as I go.

Re: Bottom radiator hose
Fitted the new thermostat today and started it up again. Not sure if its coincidence or not but the pipe is no longer sucking in. If I get the time I am tempted to remove the thermostat and try it again, just to see if that was the cause but I'll see how it goes. Thanks for all your input and help. ...

Re: Bottom radiator hose
Finally got a chance to get back to this today...
The thermostat is missing so I have ordered one.
I've also ran a hosepipe through the radiator and the water appears to be flowing through without any problems.
I'll try again once the thermostat arrives and see what happens.

Bottom radiator hose
Hi, I've been rebuilding my NP Super Major and today I started it for the first time in around 5 years. Everything went well but the bottom radiator hose is sucking in when I rev the engine. I think if I rev it hard enough I could get it to suck in enough to seal itself but I didn't try that. I've s...

Brake and clutch pedal bush reamer size
Hi.
Can anybody advise the reamer size I should use for the brake and clutch pedal bushes on a '63 super major.
I think the shaft size is 1.1/8".
Thanks,
David

Re: Cylinder head bolts
Thanks for everybodys advise and input. Interesting article JC. The workshop manual doesn't state whether the torque values given are dry or lubricated but the general consensus on the internet seems to be to lubricate (although of course each case should be investigated individually). I also sought...

Re: Cylinder head bolts
Thanks Wayne.
That gives me a bit more confidence as I was afraid of damaging the block.
I've got a drill bit and I'll borrow a tap from work this week.
Regards,
David

Cylinder head bolts
I am currently refitting the cylinder head to my '61 super major. The head has been off for many months following a head gasket failure and lack of time to sort it. As I tighten down the head bolts one of them goes tight before the bolt head even gets near its seating surface. I have swapped bolts a...

Re: what have i bought
Here is a picture of a 13/6 my Dad used to own. http://www.dumfriesandgallowayvintagemachineryclub.co.uk/DWM/13-6.JPG It was called a 13-6 because it could dig 13 feet, 6 inches deep. This photo was taken of it in the local annual gala in the early 70's. The wheels and bucket received a nice new coa...

Odd rear hubs
After a year or so out to build a house I finally managed to get back to my NP Super Major at the weekend. While taking the wheels off I noticed that the rear hubs are different. One side looks like this; http://www.dumfriesandgallowayvintagemachineryclub.co.uk/DWM/100_5463.jpg The other side look l...

We bought a 788 at a farm sale a few years ago. It wasn't quite as tidy as your one but was in working order and we cut a few acres every year with it for fun. We paid £90 for it at the sale and doubled its value by putting a new tyre on it. We enjoy playing with it, especially my dad as it reminds ...
