Re: Hydraulic control issues

Hi Bounce, I have a used Dexta hydraulic pump if you find you need one. Here is a link to my advert https://www.preloved.co.uk/adverts/show ... 2019950337

Thought I would put it to you in case.

Cheers

This might be worth a try a flexible magnet and a gripper https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Laser-Magnet ... Swky1bjrNz

You might be lucky, better than splitting.

Re: Bit of Advice Please

I have sold my tractor now but it appears to have gone to a good home. For me, the tractor was a work horse rather than a restoration project and I was always fearful of a major mechanical problem that would reduce it to scrap. I have not got the skills and tools to take on anything major so selling...

Fordson Dexta Hydraulic Lift Pump

Is anyone after a genuine hydraulic lift pump for a Dexta? I bought this when I had a leak from the PRV cover but managed to fix it without replacing. This part is surplus to requirements now but might be useful for someone. See my advert on Preloved https://www.preloved.co.uk/adverts/show/119350446...

Re: Oil leak from hydraulic pressure relief valve area

Follow up on this leak. I finally got around to sorting this problem. On close inspection it appeared that there may have been some damage there in the past and it had been filled with something that finally gave way. I cleaned it all back and saw there was a small hole which allowed the oil to leak...

Bit of Advice Please

We are in the process of selling our house and land and the time has come to sell my Dexta. Is there still an old tractor market and how is the best way to go about finding a buyer? It is a 1962, not cosmetically good looking but it has been a working tractor and I have used it for about 12 years ke...

Re: Oil leak from hydraulic pressure relief valve area

Great, thanks for that Charlie, Assuming it was the same whilst the tractor was mowing Monday and Tuesday it did not spurt, but of course I was not looking. There was oil on the footplate and of course quite a lot on the shed floor after a couple of days. I guess I could start up and see what happen...

Re: Oil leak from hydraulic pressure relief valve area

Update, I spent ages this morning getting the footplate off and now it is clear I can see it is the footplate that has rubbed a hole in the PRV cover. There is a small hole where it is is dripping away. No one make these covers as a spare, I suppose that is true of all castings. A friend has said th...

Re: Oil leak from hydraulic pressure relief valve area

Thanks for the guidance Charlie, It is possible that I overfilled it I just covered the tops of the shafts in oil as (what I think is the level plug) was seized and I was not sure which one it was. What you say sounds perfectly feasible so I think my next step is taking off the footplate and cleanin...

Oil leak from hydraulic pressure relief valve area

Hi all, more problems. I checked my tractor this morning and there was a pool of oil under it. I did notice a bit of oil on the right footplate when I finished mowing on Tuesday, which I thought I might have splodged when I topped up the oil direct into the case when I replaced the lift cover gasket...

Re: How to replace water pump seal?

Thanks Charlie, I think that will be easiest. I went down to my tractor and noticed now there is quite a bad oil leak which I have got to sort out.It is on the right hand side and some oil is getting on the right hand footplate but most is on the floor. I might be back for more help.

Cheers

Re: How to replace water pump seal?

Thanks Ben, I am doing okay thank you considering I was unable to walk in January. I see what you mean, I have just looked at the process for replacing the seal on Stefan's download manual. A new pump is just over £30, and it looks easy to do, so that is the way to go. many thanks.

How to replace water pump seal?

This year' problem is a leak dripping from what appears to be the water pump pulley. I wondered where the water was leaking from and I see that there is a seal available rather then doing the whole pump. I would be grateful for advice on how to do this rather than my usual trial and error Also, what...

Re: Rebuilding a fuel injection pump

Crikey Rick, that was a close call. I would never have thought a bearing could fly out like that just with a puller. I have found this thread very interesting and I did not realise the pressures that these pumps can generate, it is quite frightening really. I wonder what pressures the common rail di...

Re: Lift Control Lever Stuck

Hi Ben, In my case it was the lift control arm that had rusted onto the quadrant control shaft. It is the bit shown in the picture above with the fork type joint at the top. Brian soon spotted this as he disassembled all the linkage and it needed a fair bit of heat to free it up. Yes, it is a fair j...

Blimey Adrian that is a scary bit of kit. I enjoyed your video of you showing the test of the plough's reversing action but I do not think I would have the nerve to use it  . Good luck with your ploughing and I would love to see another video of it in action.

Cheers

Re: Bolt Size

I had trouble sourcing a UNF nut to replace the original I had to cut off that holds my Dexta seat on. After a fruitless search around local outlets I searched the internet. The problem I found is that the postage is a killer and it can really make the unit cost prohibitive, especially for one nut. ...

As a solution I wonder if it is worth looking at getting your bearing refurbished? I found this USA company who might be worth approaching http://www.masseyind.com/bearing-refurbishment.html I have no idea how much it would cost but at least they would work tot he fine tolerances needed to make the ...

Well I finally found a window of opportunity to cut my fields in between rain and storms in this English summer. Re: Arrrgh Help

The suction device worked well and once I got into the rhythm I soon got it drained. When I filled it up to the indicator plug level it took nearly 20 litres so I am sure I got most of the old oil out. Clearly there was insufficient oil in there to start with as I only emptied around 10 litres or so...
