jim, re: starter
If you live in the USA try Burgh Implement somewhere in PA. they have a website. I just bought a throw-out bearing from them so I know they have a diesel Dexta in the back lot.

also, how can you tell if the clutch you pay
$400 bucks for is properly adjusted? I can understand that accurate dimensions can be lost over the fifty years since this tractor was last produced. You go to a parts dealer and say you want this clutch and a few days later you have it and it appears pretty much like the one you just exchanged but....

thanks Brian
The clutch I installed was rebuilt; who knows by whom....undocumented morons from somewhere using inferior/worthless material. I engaged the pto and was able to turn it cw/ccw without any problem. With the pto disengaged the output shaft spun very freely as anyone would expect; with it engaged it wa...

thanks Brian and John n
I suspect the clutch as well. I don't think I damaged it in any way during installation as I never used any unnecessary force and took care that the splines were properly engaged. I did have to make a pretty radical adjustment to the external linkage that connects the clutch pedal to the clutch thro...

more on the hydraulic lift, pto problem
on my tractor, the primary pto shaft is engaged the moment the tractor begins to run. This means that the hydraulic pump starts pumping at that time and the hydraulics are on. When my hydraulics went out the output shaft of the pto stopped as well. I was thinking that maybe the hydraulic problem was...

I have the double clutch. I don't think the clutch is the problem though, having just replaced it. There was no banging or clatter when it went out, as you would expect when something major broke. I am just really frustrated. having worked on this machine all summer long. Do you have a Live drive (d...

hydraulic lift and PTO question
I knew things were going too well.... Today I was bushhogging and suddenly, without any apparent reason, the PTO went out. I became aware that the bushhog was not turning and then discovered the PTO had become disengaged. I tried to reengage but to no avail. The hydraulic lift would not work either....

Clutch question
I finally got a new(used) throw-out bearing and got the thing installed. The tractor was in gear and I was spinning the flywheel using a screwdriver on the ring gear to get the splines aligned. The PTO shaft went in ok and the tractor halves went together without drawing them together with bolts, ju...

One other thing Les I can see cutting through the outer race and letting the balls fall out but is there not a concave channel on the inner side in which the ball bearings ride and would this not prevent pressing on another bearing? But, since the thing is junk as it is, I guess I can cut it up and ...

Terry 274, thanks for your reply. In this case I can assure you that the release bearing is not a press-on type. I have changed out many bearings in my lifetime and this is unlike any I have seen. The Ford tractor place had press-on release bearing for other models, but I have the double clutch, gea...

dexta clutch release bearing
I had to replace the clutch on my Fordson Dexta and discovered the throw-out bearing is bad too. I now discover that the bearing is not a press-on but is somehow made intergal with the yolk. they want over $300 bucks for a new one. The clutch was over $400. Is there a cheaper alternative to buying t...
