Re: Power Major Starter
Thanks, Pavel, after doing some reading, I have come to that conclusion as well. I have a new solenoid ready to go, I just have to get out there and do it.

Power Major Starter
Hey guys, I haven't been on since last fall and I have missed reading on here! I have been working the old girl a bit over the winter with the snow blade and she's running great! Starting to have an issue with the starter though. Occasionally when I want to start her, when I push the start lever dow...

Re: cultivating
Well I think I'm done cultivating now. Basically just used it as a giant rake and pulled all the trash to the corners. Gonna try out my new (to me) 3 bottom green (ick) plow next weekend I hope. I WILL take pics and video this time. Also the tires are 16.9 x 30. Good guess!

Re: Another Busy couple of weeks for the super :)
Awesome Steve! Wish I would remember to take pics of what I'm doing with my Major. Been cultivating the same 2 acres for 6 weeks now to keep the weeds down and the soil black. It's my parents lot that has lain fallow for 30+ years. At first I just used the cultivator as a giant rake to pull all the ...

What kind of condition is she in, besides the faded paint and flat tire? Is the hood missing or just off?

Re: cultivating
Generally the tin is in really good shape. The rear fenders could really use some TLC though. The last 10 years it has been sitting outside, although under cover of some ash trees. Last winter was the first time it has been indoors in that time, and that was in my garage to redo the wiring. I'm havi...

cultivating
Well spent the morning at my parents using my new (to me) cultivator. It's a 12 footer with the small chisels on it. Used it to tear up and pull the overgrown trash out of the back 40. Wow does that old Power Major pull! Once I had most of the trash out, I figured I would make one pass with the cult...

That being the case, I would buy a good 1 piece pulley if I couldn't get the rivets retightened.

Starter Issue
Hey guys, wondering about something. Got my PM all wired up (except for lights), and discovered that the little tab is gone from the starter engagement arm that acuates the starter mounted solenoid engagement switch. Is there a simple way to fix this short of buying an entirely new engagement unit? ...

Re: Major front pulley
Normally I would say the bearing is worn, but with the belt tight it seems unlikely. Is the pulley hub itself worn out? A tight belt can take out some play, but I would still be very suspicious and investigate further.

Re: Fuel pump
Unfortunately the pump is an aftermarket piece that came with the tractor and has no bleed lever. And I am getting fuel through the line from the tank to the lift pump. Everything worked until I pulled the pump to replace said gasket.

Fuel pump
How do I correctly install the fuel pump? I replaced the block to pump gasket as it was leaking oil, and now the fuel bowl won't fill. I double checked everything and all is correct. Yes there is fuel in the tank and I turned the valve on. Thanks in advance!

Re: Pa's old New Major
That's a nice tractor. As you're fixing those little and not so little things, be careful that "mission creep" doesn't set in. You know, when you're fixing a something and you say "might as well do something with this". Next thing you know the tractor is disassembled on your shop floor for full rest...

I have the same problem occasionally. My problem is leakdown in the fuel line. If you prime it, does it help?

That's good to hear Nick, glad you sorted that out. I would now rebuild the old starter and keep it for a spare or sell it on eBay and your money back for the new one.

Re: odd tractor behaviour
I had an old Dodge Dart that did that once as I was driving it home immediately after purchase. Unfortunately, the bill of sale said "As Is". After tearing apart the entire front end, I discovered that it was the steering box that was the culprit. I don't know if that will be your issue, but I hope ...
