Glad to hear the old "drive around loose" method worked. Good luck on the rest of the repair.

Re: For those who love motorbikes.

Quite clever!! I like how the CoG is installed first - very important!! Nortons have been our family motorcycle marque since the '60's. My uncle was the local dealer for many years, and we still have the last 1974 850 Commando that he received, still in the crate. My dad, my uncles, and I all still ...

Re: Removing Rear Wheel

Fixing the tire while it is on the tractor is the preferred method. If you do want to get the rim off of the hub, a method I have used is to loosen the nuts one turn from contacting the rim, and then go for a drive around the farm, using the brakes on that particular wheel from time to time. It may ...

That is a pretty gunked up screen, got to have an affect on performance. Kinda makes you wonder what the inside of the pump looks like... :? :? When I call your machine a beast, I mean it in the nicest possible way. Love those big front tires, are those 10.00-16's? Your pulling tractor is a very swe...

Re: Threads on nuts & bolts

The Smiths lift may have some Whitworth on it, but the rest of the tractor should be Unified (UNC, UNF). It has been a few years since we restored ours, but I don't remember any Whitworth bolts.

Re: E27N Major

We also have a straight gas E27N, a 1950. Ours has 36" rears on it. I have seen likely 10 other E27N's locally over the years, all had 36" rear tires. I am thinking that your tractor has a set of E1A (New Major) wheels fitted. The majority (likely 90%) of New Majors (Mk I, Mk II, FPM, FSM, NPSM) in ...

Re: 1922 Fordson F zen earthed in so./cent. Texas. . .

Did you get your steering issue corrected? It sound to me like the king pins and/or the axle holes are worn and your from wheel camber is gone. I had the same problem with the N when we restored it, but not near as bad as yours. I ended up building up the axle king pin holes with weld and then re-bo...

Re: Gear lever snap ring

The gear lever on our N broke off at the snap ring groove, the ring long gone as a result. Fordson parts are not exactly plentiful where we are, but we do have welding and machining equipment. I managed to groove out and weld up the lever, but I had no groove left. To over come this, I turned out a ...

Re: E27n fanbelt tensioner

I have never seen a factory one, but we made one for our N out of an implement belt idler pulley. Not complicated to make.

Our E27N uses the generator to tension the belt. I take it yours does not have electrics?

Re: 4600/4610 hydraulics

We had an Allied 660 loader on our old 4000. Performance was never impressive with the transmission mounted pump. We ended up installing a crankshaft driven pump, mounted out front and shaft driven, along with a dedicated hydraulic system just for the loader. That worked very well. The 4610 we have ...

Re: 73 ford 2000

I have had more experience with the 3000 than the 2000 (zero), but as far as transmissions / PTO's go, it looks like there were a number of variations: http://www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/005/1/5/5150-ford-2000-transmission.html The 3000 that our neighbor had was an 8-speed with live PTO. To me...

Re: ford 3000 misfire

I tend to agree with Brian about this being the nature of the beast, especially with the "flutter" issue. Our old 4000 was the lumpiest running thing after a cold start, especially in winter. In the 10 years we owned it, it never got any better, and never got any worse either. The 4610 is a far bett...

Re: FPM to work on.

Have you ever tried a product called Castrol Super Clean? It is caustic, contains sodium hydroxide, but is easy on ferrous metals. I have used it on really grimy tractors that I was not concerned about the paint finish before, followed up by high pressure washing with hot water. It takes a couple of...

Re: To The Old Fogies in our Ranks.

Some provinces in Canada do require licenses for tractors, but you don't need one here. Just need to be 16 yo. This is something else that likely need revising, since we now have tractors that do 60 kph and there are no weight limits on what you can pull. I guess we will enjoy it while it lasts. Che...

Re: FPM to work on.

Wow,Richard, that is quite a sticky mess you have there. What if you were to point a heat gun at it, can you get it to run at all? If you can, maybe you could rinse it out with some brake cleaner or carb cleaner. I want to see you get this corrected and on to that range selector. I have a FPM in the...

Re: ford 3000

Our 4000 sprang a leak in the block about 2 years before we traded it on the 4610 (new). It lived a hard life as a loader tractor on our dairy farm, when it wasn't in the manure pit, it was screaming it's lungs out on the forage blower, blowing haylage into a 60' tower silo (until we got the 5200). ...

Re: Ford 6610 power steering

What steering set up do you have? Is it full hydrostatic, or is the steering box under the fuel tank with a drag link to the front axle? I would likely start with the pump. Check the fluid level in the reservoir and make sure the filter is not collapsed. Most hard steering issues that I have had on ...

Re: Plough for FSM/PM?

We used to pull a 3-16" Kverneland with our SM, back in the day, with 16.9-30 tires. Worked fine, and is somewhat period with the tractor. Since that time, we have got into match plowing in a big way. You have to have narrow tires for that. Our E27N is set up on 11.2-36's for vintage mounted, and fo...

Man, what a pain!! I may even not complain about our licensing system here in Ontario, Canada for the rest of the day - Here, a standard car license allows you to drive a vehicle of 11,000 kg GVW, while towing a trailer of 4600 kg. I have always had a bit of heart ache about the trailer rating...

Re: Ford 5000

An engine from a 6600/6700/6610/6710 would be the one to look for, as they would be 256CID, same as your 5000. I believe that the 56XX tractors reverted to the 233CID, same as the early 5000.
