Re: 1958 Dexta Restoration
I think that I may need to go to specsavers as I still cant see the difference. I take it from your comments that the earlier Dexta had thinner or not so pronounced side cheeks. You'll kick yourself when you see it, like I did! The cheek pieces on the earlier nose cone has a curve at the top to ali...

Re: 1958 Dexta Restoration
I have noticed that later standard Dextas with the mechanical fuel pump (mid 1962?) have the slab-sided nose cones like Charlie's 'new' one. One imagines for common cheek pieces with the Super D.
Pneumatic pump Dextas have the earlier skinnier cheek pieces.

Re: Super Dexta cold start primer
My 58 Dexta is fitted with the manifold heater type with the primer pump on the fuel tap. Im sure the ball inside the heater is stuck as when you push the primer when the heater is heating it just builds up pressure and isnt letting the diesel through the heater. Strip down required when I get home...

Re: 1958 Dexta Restoration
If you look at the side cheeks, you can see the 'new' one on your tractor is different from the old one in your pic above.
I wouldn't worry about it, not many folk will notice, and so what if they do! Just a curiosity.

Where did you get the nose cone from? It's a '62 style with super dexta side cheeks, like mine.
Congrats on your great work.

Re: How do you measure rear axle shaft end float.
Mike at http://www.tractormec.co.uk has a series of DVDs on restoring a Dexta. In the drum brake dvd he also replaces the rear axle oil seals. As part of that he shows a couple of methods of checking the end float. Basically he wedges one end of the axle whilst checking end float at the other end. ...

Re: MIL loader - Super Dexta
There seem to be two variations of the MIL frame, one attaches to the back axle, the other to the front.
Suggest you contact "fordsondexta13" on ebay, who deals in all things Dexta, and is familiar with the MIL loader - a very helpful guy.

Re: Bufurcated Rivets
The bifurcated rivets that commonly come with repro bonnet rubbers aren't the same as original, but they do OK. I installed mine in a slightly amateurish way but it worked. Fit the rivet thru the rubber and the bonnet panel. Find something firm to rest the head of the rivet and panel on, piece of wo...

Re: Upper Dash Panel
Have a look at these, maybe some help. Have a search for some other threads/pics. You need a temp gauge that fits inside the bezel of the top dash and the correct warning lights also. Also most of the repro rubber gaskets are poor as they have no recess for the warning lights. I made my own rubber g...

Your tractor will be far more useful with hydraulics. Without them, all it can do is pull.

What is the number on the 'original V5'?
Is it a V5 or a buff log book? On some old log books they recorded the engine no rather than the tractor number on the bell housing.

The Agriline cap will probably work. BUT I got me the real McCoy, a new old stock AC RC-5 on ebay, in USA, a 4lb cap. They come up quite often and aren't expensive. And they are the real original caps, good quality too. eg http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-AC-Radiator-Pressure-Cap-RC-5-850799-100-133-SH-/...

You can have a 4-blader simply by installing two standard 2-bladers at 90deg to each other - they are designed to do just that!
The shroud gives much improved cooling flow through the rad, as it prevents air leaking in at the sides.

I have unbolted and moved my lever and quadrant away from the hyd top as far as proximity to the mudguard allows. It came away easily. The shaft is definitely not stuck in the quadrant tube. So the internal linkage must be stuck - sadly I will have to remove the hyd top

Re: Fuel Tank Sealer
You could repair the welded patch or weld on another patch. But I would check the inside of your tank, because if it's rusty, rust will keep blocking the filters. In this case, I suggest sealing the whole of the inside with suitable sealer. Have a search on here, eg see http://www.fordsontractorpage...
