Re: Engine overhaul commences. BUT....

When you get it off, put a good straight edge on your block and see if it is warped. It most likely is your agriline gasket. I use Fell pro on all my engines, they work every time. What all did they do to your head? You may have some bad valve seals with the kit you bought. Did you have a good torqu...

Re: Haven't posted much lately

Bill, how did you rig it up exactly? I'd love to see some pictures of that if you have any. I've always wanted to put power steering on mine, but have yet to figure out how.
How exactly will you fix all the slop? I've got to go through my gearbox and tighten it some this spring anyway.

Re: Haven't posted much lately

Glad to hear your on the road to recovery. I was going to ask if you had rigged up a power steering unit, but then thought with the weight of the back hoe that might not be necessary. How does she steer? You did a wise thing by adding all the extra stabilizers, I believe you will need them. Can't wa...

Re: More on Stabiliser bars

Hi Ben, I made mine out of a turnbuckle that had been used on an electrical guide line that went on the pole. I cut the hooks off both ends, welded a 3/8 piece of flat metal with a hole drilled for the hitch pin and for a clevis (D-ring or what ever it's called in UK) to each end. I drilled and put ...

Re: Uneven run, low revs, white smoke

Chris, another thing I did whilst my Dexta was doing this same thing. It's really the reason I found out what was wrong. While it's running and doing the low rpm thingy reach down and turn your fuel tap off and on several times to see if she opens up. The reason to try this is, on mine it made a dif...

Re: Uneven run, low revs, white smoke

My Dexta did the same exact thing as yours, and it was the fuel tap. You said you were going to get a new gauze filter? Where can you get these at. I've looked for many years without finding one. You can go onto Stephen's tractor site that he let us put on this forum and see how he made his. See ya ...

Re: Where's my nipples...?

Hi Ben, I'm doing well, thank you for asking. On the shaft that the clevis pin for the live power hooks up to is the one that had pressed in fittings. When I renewed the bushings I saw the holes, I threaded the holes with a 5/16 die, and used some 5/16 grease fittings I have in my shop. They work re...

Re: Dexta assistance

I have a 20X30 shop out back that I use. I have a coal and wood burning stove in it, and it keeps it nice and cozy. When the weather gets below 25F I get some coal in and that makes the difference, I can work in my shirt sleeves if I choose. I try to keep her about 68. The past couple of weeks I reb...

Re: Where's my nipples...?

Hi guys, on my Dexta I have both fittings, the threaded kind and the pressed in kind. I don't have diff lock on my tractor, but on the clutch bar (the one that goes from one side to the other) there were holes. When I restored mine, I checked these out and low and behold they were for a pressed in f...

Re: Spin-on Oil Filter

Ben, I put one on my Dexta years ago, just like the one Gerald described with the cooper filter, and haven't had any problems so far. I bought mine from Sparex for 17 bucks. She hasn't done much hard work as of yet though, but running just fine with no leaks.

Re: Re assembling rear end of my Dexta

Your welcome Mervyn, I only wish I could have told you that before you put them back on the axle, but what you did most likely will be sufficient. You might need to put a really thin shim on each side, (10,000) might sort out your problem, you may have to go a little more. You need just a smidgen of...

Re: Re assembling rear end of my Dexta

I would get me a needle for my grease gun and see if I could get grease into it that way. It should work, it will be slow going so be patience.

Re: Re assembling rear end of my Dexta

If you have the bearing off the axle, I would pack the bearing with grease before I put it back on the axle then into the tractor, just smearing grease over the bearing won't work. The way I do it is, I put a couple of tablespoons of grease in my left hand (I'm right handed), then with my right hand...

Re: Hand break bushes

When I restored my old gal, someone had driven an easy out the same size as the hole that hold's the paw on, into it and it took a while, because of the location to get that bugger out. If you have a man that's handy with a metal lathe you can have them made to fit. I had to have mine hand made beca...

I bought a new primer pump when I restored my Dexta, and it used a flare on the ends. Have you looked back into the holes to see? Your fuel line should me 1/4 inch, as well as the olive, as Gerald has already said. Best of luck.

Re: Stabilizer Bar Front Pin

Ben, you might try the 271 Red locktite, I use it a lot in my shop for things that won't stay tight. Plus you say it's worn into an oval shape, that makes things much worse. Do you have a welder you can weld it solid long enough to get your work done, then this winter fix it proper? I'd try the 271 ...

Re: Re assembling rear end of my Dexta

Sounds like you have a "git-r-done" attitude, that's cool. What would we do without our son in laws, lolol. I have one too, and he's a dandy. Are you talking about the shim's behind the axle housing, that set the preload, that is a quandary for sure. Like you've found out it's not explained very wel...
